Thanks everyone for the comments.
I asked because beside people shots, i also like going to places like healesville sanctuary, melbourne zoo and i'm real keen to try werribee open range zoo. The last one is the one where i will need a long lens most.
After reading the replies i feel it might be easier to just buy a longer lens....my longest at the moment is 50-200mm so i'm going to look at the ones that go up to 300mm, i really don't mind what it starts with whether it be 70mm or what ever.
Thanks again, from casey.

Hey, thanks, i'm guessing it would be better to buy a longer lens instead...because currently i only have the kit lenses so i'm guessing they'd lose auto focus.
Edit:sorry i wrote kit lens, the guy at the camera shop did a deal for me so i was thinking kit lens but my long lens actually isnt.

Hi, i'm curious about teleconvertors, when i researched it for my canon camera i was told that they make the aperture number larger and also can cut off auto focus.
Does this happen with pentax and can you do something to prevent losing autofocus?
I don't mind the aperture thing but losing auto focus is not an option for me.

oh ok, so i'm guessing if i brought the pentax flash with high speed sync, i could take advantage of the higher shutter speeds.
On my canon camera with the canon flash i can set it to high speed sync and go higher than the usual amount which for canon is something like 1/200th.
Your right about that i like the control of manual flash.

Thanks for the info, i think cactus trigger/receivers are the same because it stops working once i put it above 1/180th.. i really don't mind being in manual flash.

Hey, i can't find the video, but if i remember right, he was showing the effect of using An adapter on the flash with accessory like the ones you get on ebay that have beauty dish, snoot, globe, mini softbox ect. he was going to his flash to do something between different accessories so now i'm thinking he was shooting manual flash. he didn't say which nikon flash he was using...he just mentioned he was using a nikon flash.
But to be honest i really don't remember much of the details, i was watching it because i wanted to buy an ebay kit like he was showing.

Hey, i am actually using "cactus" trigger/receivers, which i assume i have to use manual with....but i really don't mind this.
I mainly take portraits so i can take the time to change the flash power.
As for stating the obvious, i'm so new to this, not much is obvious to me.

Hey, now i feel stupid as can get...i had the flash set to high speed sync (or what ever it is called) so i allowed my shutter speed to be higher....i wasn't thinking right...that, that would only work with a canon.
I just tried it again, and didn't go above 1/180, and it seemed to work fine.
Thanks so much :)
From Casey.
