Couple easy questions

Ive read the K7 manual front to back a few times so far. I am comfortable scrolling through the features/menus & have a fair understanding what each does. Below are just a couple items I am not 100% sure about.

In the control panel screen, inside the ISO tab is a option that lists 3 settings; 'slow'/'a slanted line'/'fast'. Can anyone explain what these 3 settings change?

Lastly, which mode setting, with which control panel/program line settings will insure the absolute fastest continuous drive speed (advertised 5.2fps)?

I am getting what seems to be the fastest speed using; 'Tv' (shutter priority) mode, program line 'correction' settings 'off', 1/8000 shutter speed.

Thank you in advance for any/all suggestions. Much appriciated!

Thanks for that info Bert! Always good to hear about first person accounts with the latest pentax products. I had no idea the shutter counter could/would be reset. Defeats the purpose of an 'accurate shot counter'. Turning back miles on your cars odometer before selling it to increase value is still theft reguardless if its easy or can be done. Resetting @ factory is fine with me. If after someone has bought & used a cam, then resets shot counter to sell a fraud, makes for a thief though!

I am quite pleased with my new K7. Shutter count was 223 after first picture I shot. I then installed current version 1.11 firmware which uploaded fine. The pentax k7 camera & all accessories look perfect. I can relax finally. The camera works great thus far & leaves no doubt in my mind that it is new - not a return or open box like I was worried about. Happy to keep it!

Learned a valuable lesson I wont repeat. Trust and company reputation are worth quite a bit more than the ultimate 'cheapest price'. I had always worked with reputable on-line retailers & took it for granted that people should always be honest. I was excited to save a hundred bucks at first, but then about lost a weeks worth of sleep (& my $ maybe!) after reading the horrible on-line reviews. The outcome looked grim, & maybe very grim. It all worked out but lesson learned for sure. I feel really lucky!

just one question, are your K7 'operating manual' & 'quick guide' in color?

Here are a few pics from Sony A700 & Sony A55. Really got into digital photo so I could capture the landscape here in hawaii. I enjoy a little macro work (I collect wrist watches) but mainly landscape natural light pics is what i enjoy most.

SD card purchase with k7 1.11 firmware installed?

Ive already printed, read, and fully understand the readme.txt is in fact the 'instructions'. Ive only completed the file to root on sd b/c my k7 is being delivered on monday 1.30.11 (not here yet). The only item in 1.11 k7 firmware update I didnt understand or couldnt accomplish is done now. The rest of the instructions I can complete once I have the k7 in hand.

For what it is worth I can find my way around a dslr menu/functions just fine. Ive never written exe file to root on sd card or seen it done. That is the part I had to figure out on my own despite having line by line instructions.

So I guess formatting the card either on comp or k7 doesnt matter?

SD card purchase with k7 1.11 firmware installed?

I think I was able to complete the k7 1.11 firmware update to sd card by doing a 'drag & drop', bin file to sd card. I dragged file # fwdc204.bin from desktop, where I saved it - to formatted sd card in card reader (shown as drive H).

When I now open the sd card it simply shows fwdc204.BIN file (10,752KB) nothing else.

How did I do? Correct winner! or no cookie for me?

I noticed you can format sd card in both computer card reader, or in k7 camera. Would formatting sd card in k7 be preferred rather than using my computer, or no difference?

Thanks in advance for any help! I think i did the update correctly - because everything worked as per pentax usa instructions - but I want to be sure before I actually insert this sd into my new k7 and kill it rather than expand/improve its functions. Does it at least sound like I did it right?:o

SD card purchase with k7 1.11 firmware installed?

I want to know if I can purchase a new sd memory card through B&H and pay to have the card formatted properly for k7 along with version 1.11 update installed?

Ive downloaded the firmware from both jp site & usa site. jp site allows me to open & read 'read me' but not bin file. Usa site downloads both but neither will open.

Apparently I am super dinosaur consumer. I guess opening, downloading, and copying firmware to root folder on formatted sd card is kids stuff. I do not know what ANY of that is, or have ANY interest in learning. I want my k7 to work in 1.11 version - nothing more.

I really think every camera manufacture should offer a service to allow consumerrs to send in & get updated firmware on memory card. the idea I know or even want to know how to do this is beyond frustrating. Or make this process 100% easier b/c the current solotion is FAR beyond my abilites & I would gander many others. It isnt a common skill set no mater how easy it might seem to those who can do this.

If B&H cant help the next step is to mail my sd card to pentax forum member willing to do this for me. From hawaii no less. FUN!!!!

No doubt! What item isnt 'imported' that isnt manufactured in the USA!!!~;) HELLO!

Guess i will know next week how it all works out. I am going to inspect that 'GMI' k7 with a microscope. If its not 100% factory fresh perfection - there will be issues.

If you read the rating & reviews here Broadway Photo / A&M Photo World, Regal Camera, Prestige Camera, Preferred Photo, Royal Camera, bway - broadwayphoto.com/ - Reviews, Ratings and Prices at ResellerRatings

you would understand why my anxiety is fully endorced 100% by BP's past reputation/actions. Their current rating is 0.00 out of 10. Along with a equally horrible BBB rating. BP are being investigated at both state & federal level currently for fraudulent bussiness practices..

Compare that with B&H rating of 9.82 of 10.0 (almost PERFECT score!)
B&H Photo-Video-Pro Audio - bhphotovideo.com - Reviews, Ratings and Prices at ResellerRatings

I cant make this stuff up! 710 reviews & a 0.00 rating for broadway photo. they also operate under 6 different names in an attempt to distance themselfs from past issues.

Independent USA K7 'grey market' repair facility?

Ive just got the answer direct from pentax USA. I have confirmed my suspicions & been told it has NO warranty from pentax. Zero, nada, nothing! Not 1 day or 90days or 1 yr. Any warranty for GMI items (grey market import) is from seller ONLY if they offer it.

Here is the email;

Dear Todd,
Thank you for contacting Pentax regarding the K-7 DSLR.
Unfortunately, if it is grey market it would have no warranty with Pentax at all. but we could still do repairs if needed. Here is the information for a repair if you ever need it.
If the camera is not covered by our warranty at this time, you will be sent an estimate in the mail or contacted by phone. If you go through with the repair, it will have a new 90 day standard warranty on it,and if you want to refuse the repair, we will send the camera back to you for a $12.00 shipping fee.

Here is the information you will need to send the camera in for repair:

PENTAX SERVICE DEPARTMENT
250 North 54th St
Chandler, AZ 85226

Telephone: (800) 877-0155

Pentax will repair it 100% at my cost - which is the answer I needed. Some companies WILL NOT work on grey market - period. For any amount of $$$!

My very best advice; do NOT under any circumstance buy grey market items or use broadway photo. Nuff said.... I would gladly return my grey market k7 except Ive already incured shipping costs to hawaii, then back to NY, PLUS restocking fees! So to return it would cost me along the lines of $200.00. So unless there is an issue beyond the grey market (it is open box, factory refurb, used, etc) I am keeping it as I have no reasonable altenative.

Lesson learned.

Independent USA K7 'grey market' repair facility?

So whats all this I read about 'grey market' not being supported by pentax USA B/C authorized dealers pay for the infastructure to allow usa warranty service? Warranty service is factored into the cost of items sold through authorized dealers.

If Pentax USA will service grey market imported than why would anyone buy USA models for $100.00 more? There IS a difference. Read the warranty structure at broadway photo on 'grey market import items' vs USA models & see for yourself.

I was VERY purposeful to not hide any facts here. Has anyone who has replied actually ever purchased grey market import AND had pentax USA warranty it? The serial number leaves no doubt it was NOT a authorized USA import. Authorized USA pentax dealers support the usa warranty structure, import grey market contributes nothing. This is how/why you can buy grey market imports (imported through means BESIDES authorized USA dealers) for less $$$!!

I want to get a accurate factual answer direct from pentax as much as I appreciate everyones thoughts/replies.

Independent USA K7 'grey market' repair facility?

I recently made a big (HUGE) mistake. After buying equiptment from B&H exclusively for months and getting GREAT service, I bought elsewhere for a lower price and got stung for not reading online reviews pre-purchase.

The camera I bought (k7) has yet to arrive - but I am 100% sure it will be a 'grey market' import item. The discount wasnt nearly deep enough to justify not using B&H & paying a few more bucks. I had no idea this k7 was grey market or wouldnt have bought it. Supposedly, I am getting a 1yr with (90 day labor only) warranty, but at this point I dont trust anything this retailer says. I feel like I just slept with the devil after reading litterally hundreds of on-line reviews. I will be lucky to get a good k7 and get out alive type thing. I cant believe I supported this company.

My question is this; is there a independent USA dslr repair facility that will fix this 'grey market pentax k7' camera at my cost IF I have an issue in the future? I am starting to wonder if anyone will touch it, knowing full well pentax certainly will not, even @ my cost.

This is my first pentax and I cant believe I am this crazy even before it has been delivered. It isnt my intention to 'out' this online retailer, that history has already been well established. I am trying to find a way to service a grey market k7 in the usa if & when needed. Truth be told if the k7 shows up & is NOT actually a 'open box', 'factory refurb', or have 10,000 shutter actuations; I will be very surprised and feel as though I dodged a bullet for sure! Fingers are crossed.

Thank you very much in advance for ANY suggestions!
