Pentax smc 50 1.7 vs Leitz Summicron 50 2:0

I understand that the Pentax smc 50 1.7 is far better at any parameter than the Summicron 50 2.0, so I suggested to an user, in an Italian forum for analogue photography, to reconsider the purchase of a Leica R8 if the only lens that he could the afford was the mere Summicron, given that a Summilux 1.4 costs more than 2500 euros.
Another used said that it is pointless to consider the Summilux because the Summicron, if you don’t need the extra stop, is just fine. So I objected that with this reasoning a cheap 1970s' Ricoh with a Pentax lens is the same if not superior, in term of IQ.
For me these vintage stuff is also a matter of owning precious stuff, same as Casio vs Rolex or ball point pen vs Montablanc, not just IQ.
What is your opinion?

Pentax K1000 film speed knob

the mechanism is pretty straightforward: the speed dial (knob) is engaged to the speed selector underneath, when you pull it you basically disengage it from the speed selector so that it’s possible to rotate the ISO plate. If you take it apart you can easily understand the mechanism and see what is wrong. Moreover I did check and there’s no need to remove top cover: check this out

It’s pretty easy to remove the top cover, just remember that the cap of the advance lever is removed by twisting clockwise. Then the whole knob is easily removed. iirc there’s a spring, check this out:

Shutter cocked or not when stored

The camera is 100% mechanic, the solar panel are there just to feed a capacitor for the light meter, so I believe that the shutter cocked suggestion has (had) to do with the tendency of the mechanism to slip and not cocking the shutter, which is typical for aged Pentax M series bodies.

Shutter cocked or not when stored

It’s the usual question, but I recently bought a new old stock Ricoh XR Solar (in kit with its mint new old stock Rikenon 55 1.2, see my post in an Italian forum: Scimmia 55 1.2 Cosina, Ricoh, Revue o Porst? - Pagina 2 - Analogica.it) and in the box I found this warning that means: “please store this camera always with shutter cocked”.
This Ricoh XR Solar is based on the old Cosina CT1 and has a Copal shutter and I recall that the suggestion for Nikons FE/FM was to leave the shutter released. Now I am confused.
What about our Seiko shutters in Pentax M, A, P bodies ?

This is a very old thread, but I hope someone will appreciate my update.

Just found a NOS Ricoh XR solar and its NOS XR Rikenon 55 1.2 for 400 euro: the solar thing still holds some minutes of charge after exposing to a 40 watts light for a few minutes.

Some photos of my catch are in this italian forum for analog photography:

Zenit Automat - erratic speed dial behavior

While searching for a good Helios with K mount for my K1 I came across this Automat–Helios combo for a very good price. The idea was to keep the Helios and sell or give as a present the camera. Indeed its a very nice camera, it looks like a 1970/1980 Ricoh and is aperture priority only. Similar in functionality to the MV/MV1from pentax: no speed is indicated in the viewfinder but when bot red leds flash the speed is above 1/30, when only the upper one is on we have overexposure, only the bottom one it indicates underexposure.
The speed dial has 4 positions: L (lock), B (bulb), X (synchro flash, approx 1/100) and A (aperture priority).
ok, on L, B, X it works fine, while in A I have to jiggle to find the right position otherwise the camera fires on X. I took the dial apart and realized that the whole assembly is very sensitive to pressure and even if the dial engages correctly the slot, a simple pressure on the plate causes the camera to fire in X.
I was wondering if anyone has experience on this.
Incidentally, the lens, is quite good and on the K1 is a good combination.

Pentax MX Frame Counter Stuck At Beginning

1. I made the spring using a Nikon F2 spring... as you can see it is very hand made!

2. correct: the spring pulls the lever away from the counter, but the lever is an "L" shaped one, and the effect is that the part just below number 18 is pushed towards the counter.

aa soon as I get back to the Mac with the web page I make the correction

I am new to this forum, but an old Pentax user. It all started in 80's with the Pentax ME Super. I still use my file Pentaxes although in 2005 I started using Nikon DSRL (D200 just to use the 120 mm Nikkor Medical to take shots of bacterial cultures). Now I would like a Pentax FF to enjoy the large viewfinder of MX and LX and keep using my old SMC 24 mm.

I managed to fix two MXs today: I simply made a new spring. It is not difficult and only two coils are needed. More coils make the spring to strong and then the counter does not go back to zero at theopenimg of the back. If someone is interested I can post a link to a page witn the DIY steps.

Ben

PS. I am new to this forum, will introduce myself in the appropriate section.
