Idea: Mirrorless K-mount with telescoping mount

It is not a good idea, it is an obvious idea.

Many range finders have this function and it works good for them! Also the MF Mamiya RBs and RZs which are professional SLR cameras use belows, not to mention almost all large format cameras.

There is no reason at all this could not work. If such a camera existed, I would not only want it, I would love it.

Btw people, look up the Plaubel Makina! Great MF rangefinder.

Which is more than double of what I would need for my future MF.

The key will never be having a million frames per minute so that you capture everything. The key is a fast responding camera that captures what you see in an instant.

And for studio and flash on location use, where I guess most users would use this camera - you have to take into account that the flashes often need a couple of seconds to charge. The models needs some seconds to get into a new pose, and the photographer needs time to think!

A dramatic change for Pentax in Scandinavia

Pentax.no is a joke! I love Pentax new managment in Japan, but the decision to change to Aronsen is sad. Allright we haven't really seen if the new Norwegian management will change the marketshare but their promotion as of today is shamefull! And is it really a good idea to have the same company importing and distributing both Samsung and Pentax?

A great SLR indeed! Lots of innovative features for its time and really great ergonomics.

My big question is, why couldn't they fit the PZ-1p's 1/8000s / 1/250s sync shutter into one of the new dSLRS?

A Photographic Philosophical Change is Coming ?

Probably because we're looking for different things. For me the idea of a affordable interchangeable lens (lenses that I allready got) video camera with (as far as I know) a far bigger sensor than the normal camcorder beats that. SD sounds far better to me than DV tape, infact I hate DV tape. I can just put my SD card straight into my computer and transfer everything, far more easy than any DV tape. And new SD card technologies are popping up all the time, I doubt storage would be an issue.

Give me video capabilities and I'll become a film maker. What is not to love about this?

Are you talking about those shitty cameras with no interchangeable lenses and a sensor the size of spec of dust? Who would want that when you could record with an SLR?

Pentax 645d do you like it?

Totally agree! The Pentax is the most professional looking by my terms, I do not understand why Hasselblad while making the most expensive and advanced digital medium formats today choose to design them as ugly sci fi toys? But by far the ugliest 645s are the Mamiyas. Which is a mystery to me as their 67 cameras are all fantastic.

The one negative side of the 645D is that it apparently cannot change backs, which means you have to buy a completely new camera in the future to upgrade, then again - it might not be the biggest problem...

But that will only work with a Pentax flash unit? Most potential 645D buyers need a fast sync with studio flashes, not flash units.

Or are you telling me I can somehow sync my studio flashes in high speed with my K20D and a PTTL cable?

But if they have two lines of lenses, one with and one without leaf shutters, then they could justify the leaf lenses being very expensive. With just one line though they could all be "cheap"... =)

Looks like I had it wrong, according to this page PHOTOgraphic Magazine Online: Pentax 645nii the 645N II has a 1/60s flash sync.

Still I find it to be a bit to long. I'm not sure what the fastet sync speed on a existing 645 is, but I see the Contax 645 has 1/125s and the top of the line new Hasselblad, the H3DII can sync all the way up to 1/800, but as I understand that is because all the lenses have their on shutter.

My personal belief is that on a medium format the sync speed should at least be 1/500s - and if that is not possible with a shutter in the camera, then all the lenses available should have a leaf shutter inside.

Well then we have a different taste of camera design. I find the new Mamiya to look like a cheap ass camera!

That said, Mamiya is one of my favorite brands, and I love my Mamiya 7II to death, just not their 645 line.

Well, that was what I said. I hope the new lenses have a buildt in shutter. And flash sync on a MF is a big issue for me. I would have a hard time justifying a camera that couldn't sync faster than 1/30s as the 645NII. That would make outdoor use of flash in sunlight impossible.

Even if the new lenses have a buildt in shutter or not I would like the camera itself to have a faster sync speed than the previous 645 from Pentax.

Very very nice!

Hopefully in a couple of years I'll be making enough money to pick up this beauty, in the mean time I hope the rental shops of London get it...

BTW, has anybody else noticed the high shutter speed of 1/1000? I've never seen that before on a MF. Wonder what the max speed is? But more importantly what the flash sync is? 1/500 would be nice... Hopefully the new set of lenses will have a buildt in shutter.

Interesting buttons as well, I wonder if the two blanc ones mean there are any secret functions that they don't want to tell us about yet?

Im not saying he is marketing from it, I was saying that if one should use your logic one would clearly see that he has done much more "marketing" for Pentax.

Btw, didnt see your response to Thibs before posting.

So judging from one post about a Leica compactcamera you say he has done more marketing for Leica than for Pentax? Then what about all the post about Pentax? Surely almost all of his post are Pentax related. And don't you think that maybe Neds bosses at Pentax/Hoya have a little bit more information about how Ned is doing than you? Lets leave the buisness decisions up to the professionals. It might seem easy for you, but if it was that easy you would be President of a large company yourself wouldn't you?

Anyways, I am not getting into a discussion about this, as we clearly have too different views on the subject.

My point was just that all of these negative threads about trivial issues is not doing the Pentax community any good? Before I thought Pentax users were down to earth and more interested in photography than mindless discussions, these days I dont know.

No offence Ben, but this thread is pretty stupid.

I have no idea what your marketing scheme is, but even if it is a good one - which multinational company would make deals based on an approach like this? It does not have professional written all over it.

And another thing - while I am at it. I am getting quite sick of all the negative comments from some users here on this forum towards Ned B. I thought this was supposed to be a site for Pentax fans - not a site for immature people who cannot accept that a guy who works in a company sometime uses another companys products. What the hell is your problems? Let the man do whatever he wants in his private life. And don't give me the crap about him sending wrong signals with his Leica, the only people who sees this as negative are the few who bitch on this forum (and dPreview). Almost reminds me of George Bush (a bit moderated) - "Either you always use a Pentax, or your against us."

Now, lets focus on something more positive.

Actually I have a very neat trick for those situations!

Put a pen between your fingers, as you would normally do when writing, then put the joint of your "little finger" on the piece of paper, then lower the point of the pen to the base of the paper, and slowly turn the paper with your other hand while itīs pinned down by your "little finger" - voila! a perfect circle.

Unfortunately I donīt think this information tranfers to making image sensors though.

And thank god for that!

I suggest you reed this great book, "The absolute at Large". From Amazon.com,
"In this satirical classic, a brilliant scientist invents the Karburator, a reactor that can create abundant and practically free energy. However, the Karburator’s superefficient energy production also yields a powerful by-product."

Amazon.com: ABSOLUTE AT LARGE (The Garland library of science fiction): Capek: Books

Here you could read it for free on the internet, but surely a copy is much easier.
The Absolute at Large - Google Book Search

Actually I suggest everybody reads it, makes for a great reading!

Around 10.000 or lower would be best, but I would consider it up to 15.000.

I wouldn't mind it at all if it only took one picture every two seconds, I'm only the MF picture quality. Only thing I require, the sync speed must be about 1/250s at least, 1/500 would be great if they could manage it. For instance, ship with a standard lens with built in shutter for high sync.
