You should get an inexpensive wireless remote, and use mirror lock up. But whatever you did, these really are outstanding. And the compositions are great. It is a wonderful exposition of looking at something, and really seeing it.

I was wondering about that myself, but (from absolute ignorance) I'm guessing the one with the larger viewfinder and the larger metering cell on the front is the Big C. But I have no basis at all for my guess, and I've decided not to use Google. :)

And what happens if you use different focal length lenses on each of the mounts? Or different filters. Certainly, you wouldn't get what was intended, but it might be interesting...

In the late 60's, the Auto S2 was the first camera I ever had. I've looked into getting another one from eBay from time to time for nostalgia's sake, now that it's been nearly 50 years. But I'd like it to be in excellent condition, and with ebay, you just don't know what you are going to get. The batteries for the meter are a pain now, too.

When I do that, I eventually have enough parts for a whole new lens.

I'd like to see a K-1 Mark II as soon as possible, because that means the original K-1 will go down in price, and I can get one!

Many lenses have good reputations, and I've used these reputations over the years to buy my M42 manual lenses, my A lenses, and my F and FA lenses. Mostly, I was not disappointed. However, there have been lenses over the years that I eagerly awaited, only to find that they were "meh". Here are 4 of those for me, and the reasons why:
- Meyer Gorlitz Lydith 30/3.5
I really wanted to like this lens, but it wasn't sharp at the edges at all, and this was on a 1.5 crop. I finally bought a Takumar 28/3.5, and it was night and day.
- SMC Pentax-A 135/2.8
A nice lens, but didn't really seem to do anything that well, for me, on a crop body. An FA100/2.8 macro takes care of that focal length.
- SMC Pentax-A 35-105mm F3.5
This was the most surprising to me. It is certainly sharp at any focal length. But the shift mechanism point to get into macro mode seemed to be *exactly* where I was at any time I wanted a shot, and I had to end up focusing with the zoom ring, which didn't give me nearly the control I needed. I don't have a zoom replacement in that range.
- SMC Pentax-F 50mm F1.7
Another surprise. It just wasn't that sharp. My older Takumars are sharper, easily. And I don't shoot at 1.7. It could be my copy, of course. Anyway, the FA50/2.8 macro takes care of this length now.
What are some of your well-regarded disappointments?

Absolutely. And, I could go back to using yellow and red filters!

You have to think outside the box. What about a camera that had *replaceable* sensors, like focusing screens? Then you could get an IR-modified sensor, a B&W sensor, and a standard sensor.

A man with two watches never knows what time it is. So where does that leave me? I just like a little exposure.

Good advice. I was attempting humor, however; getting exposure is what we all want! :)

'course if you want accuracy, get an extinction meter. :) I have one, and it actually isn't bad! A little square thing, with a pop up hood. I can't find it now, unfortunately, but it's an expophot; I'm sure you've seen them. They worked on Sunny 16.

I don't mind stop down metering at all; the preset lenses are actually the best; for the others I have to use the A/M switch. But even with that, as you know, Av mode metering is inconsistent depending on the aperture of lenses that don't short out the contacts, and even though folks swear by M mode and the green button, I haven't found it to be as consistent as the A lenses. The best metering with manual lenses comes from my handheld meters (hmm, I seem to growing a small collection of them -- Gossen Luna Pro F, Sekonic L-398A, and the Pentax Digital Spot meter). But they are just about as large as the camera body, which makes them cumbersome.

Open up two stops. When you meter the lightest value you want detail in, the meter will give you a reading for that area to be at zone V, i.e. middle grey. For that area to be white, with detail, you have to make it brighter, so you open up two stops from that reading. Basically, I put a paper zone scale on my meter, and whatever I meter for the highlights, I put on zone VII (7), which is two stops above middle grey.

I usually use manual lenses, but I was quite curious about my K-3's autofocus. It *seemed* ok to me with my Pentax-F 35-70, Pentax-F 50/1.7, Takumar-F 70-200 and the 18-55 kit lens. though. So I tried this test image from Northlight-images, manually focusing the lenses from 50 x focal length with magnified live view, then switching off live view, switching to AF, and pressing the AF button. None of the lenses moved when AF focusing after the manual focus and the image was the same, indicating that they did not need any adjustment. A little disappointing, because I was looking forward to using that feature of the K-3. :) But, I didn't need it.
