Oh, I want it all right, but buying something this big, heavy and expensive from overseas would necessitate a flight across the pond. That's rather expensive over the holiday season, on top of the spirit of "buying for others."

Converted for FF = you removed the rear baffle? (Yes, I could google it on this forum, but...)

Probably the best lens for new Pentax folks. Sharp, versatile, and delightful rendering. A masterpiece in a small package!
Props to NoCo Pentaxian for spreading the glass to new users.

Laowa 105mm f/2 STF (Smooth Trans Focus) Asking Price
300.00 USD Item Location
Washington, D.C. (United States) Item Description
The Laowa 105mm f/2 (T3.2) STF lens is an entirely manual (aperture & focus) portrait lens with "smooth trans focus." Venus Optics calls this 105mm short telephoto lens the Bokeh Dreamer because the lens provides a silky smooth Bokeh. This is achieved through a unique STF (Smooth Trans Focus) optical design which incorporates an apodization (APD) element next to the aperture which resembles the function of an ND filter. It gradually reduces the amount of light transmitted towards the periphery to produce a soft, natural and beautifully diffused out-of-focus rendition.
This full-frame, K-mount portrait lens has only been used twice, and includes the original caps, hood, box, papers, etc. as if it was a new lens. Optics are perfect, and everything from the apertures (plural) to the healthy focus ring are smooth and direct.
Of course, it is manual focus, and manual aperture. The lens has two aperture rings: The traditional one from F2 to F22 (9 blades), and a second one controlling the peripheral trans focus effect with T-stop values from T3.2 to T8 (14 blades). Like preset lenses and other optical oddities, this takes some getting used to, but the lens is extremely sharp and of course can have smooth bokeh at all apertures. Wow. I had this set years ago (and all the multi-colored bags, too), and it took me ages to put them all together. Then I sold them as a set because Pentax would never release a full-frame DSLR to use them on... ha!

I recently rented the DA 1.4x converter (along with other stuff) from Lensrentals.com and it has the least degradation of any teleconverter of the many I've used (including older Pentax refconverters, the 1.7x AF, and the more recent Tamron and Sigma ones).
So, I ordered one of the gray market ones from Amazon UK. If it isn't perfect, I can return it to Amazon US for free, and that price is a fantastic deal for something I'd be considering for a long while. :D

Probably my most-used macro and product photo lens. Actually prefer it over the FA77 Ltd.
Good luck, I'm not selling mine!

I went from the K10D to K20D to K-5 to the first K-3 in Canada way back when... then I stopped. Now I have two K-3's and they're just fine for me. They always work, and I don't need more. (I tried the K-1 but found it too big, too heavy, and it made my telephotos seem short. ;) )

Watching live now. Not quite as unusual as the KP-J, but that's a nice looking K-1 with the half-wood grip and "over the top" prism cover... (like a joke to them!)

Hey Norm!
Wife and kids are good, and staying healthy and away from others for now. Hope the same for you and yours! Heading to Boundary Waters/Quetico this summer (if things don't change radically), so I'll think of you while looking for moose. ;)
Meanwhile, let's not pick on what was said back in 2012... who knew there'd be a FF Pentax DSLR, or that they'd continue making APS-C cameras and lenses, or that the Limiteds would get zoom models, or that Pentax wasn't doomed, etc., etc. We all have 20/20 hindsight...
(BTW, I think these are my first posts in a very long time, but the K-3 is still my main camera!)

Years ago, I sold all 3 of my silver MIJ FF Limiteds as a set. This listing brought back a pang of loss, but then I looked at your albums for each lens (thinking they were shots of the lenses themselves) and realized you did more with them than I ever could. Alas, your talent is preventing me from buying them again, since I won't ever be as good as the previous owner. |
