i think its the same for winxp.
@OP: try right clicking one of the files and choose properties. is the box that says read-only checked ? if so, uncheck it, press ok and try again.

also, if there isnt an "A" on the aperture ring, look for a differently colored f number (its mostly the highest). turn the ring to that, and you should be fine.

i think the fault lies in a bad lens. look at the grass in the first two shots. it looks way too hazy. the oof areas in my shots with this lens (the non wr version, actually) look much better.
@SweetTomato: you bought the camera new, so i would suggest returning/trying out a new lens.

you can go straight to 1.10.
can't answer your other question, though, since i don't own a k-7.

from the look of it, i would guess it was taken with a flash synched to the rear curtain and maybe some sort of continuous lighting additionally. paired with a shutterspeed in the 1/XXs you could get a picture like this (provided you get the timing right)

great shot!
i like the DOF as it is, makes for a more dynamic photo. but that's just my opinion.
p.s. didn't know the k-x is waterproof ;) (did you use a rubber lenshood or something ? the glass of the aquarium isn't noticable at all)

concerning the homemade shutter release cable, check out this how to Homebrew Wired Remote for Canon EOS 350D Camera
it says itīs for a canon, but it works just the same for pentax. (im pretty sure i have seen some instructions on these forums, but canīt find them now)
i built one myself. i used two buttons (1 for shutter and 1 for focus) and one switch (hooked up the same as the shutter button - for bulb)
[edit]
argh, didn't know, that the k-x has no jack for a cable...that sucks. thanks for making that clear, marc!

instead of using nd filters and possibly degrading image quality, you can try the bulilt in multiexposure function of your k20.
tripod is a must, though in this kind of shots.
this, for example, was done with multiexposure and a k20: |

does the shutter curtain travel vertically or horizontally on the 67 ?
normally it should slide vertically (to allow faster shutter speeds because of the shorter distance it has to travel).
that would mean that the shutter is not the problem here, because then the band would be on the long edge of the image...

you have to use the green hexagon instead of the flashing red square as focus indicator. the square just shows you the af point and is really unreliable to tell if something is in focus or not.

there are some known quality control issues with the 17-50.
so make sure you buy at a shop, where they let you easily exchange the lens for another copy in the case you get a bad one.
other than that it seems to be a really nice lens ! (im considering buying this or the 28-75...)

this is definitely not normal. did you buy the camera used or new ?
i would return it or send it in for repair if possible.

i own both lenses and took two 2 really quick snapshots with them.
i used my crappy lightbox and a flash on the left side. the shots were handheld, hence the composition of the 2 pics is different (as is the point of focus)
if i find the time. i'll take better/more comparable shots tomorrow and post them here.
the images are straight out of the cam, i just compressed them with photoshop to get the filesize down. both are @ f8 and 1/180sec.
da 35
tamron 90
with the 35, you have to get really close if you want to get 1:1 magnification.
this could result in problems with lighting because the lens could cast a shadow on the object you want to photograph if the light comes from the wrong angle.
but if you dont need 1:1 magnification this should not be too big of a problem.
with the tamron you have a much better/comfortable working distance, even at 1:1.
the build quality of the 35 is clearly better than that of the 90. (which doesn't mean the build quality of the tamron is bad, it's made of plastic, but it doesn't wobble or anything)
i'd say:
if you want an all-round lens, get the 35.
if you want a macro and portrait lens, get the tamron.

maybe you are confusing the k20 with the k7.
the k7 has a much quieter shutter and better af.
if you have the money - sell the gx20 and buy the k7.
gx20->k20 is not really an "upgrade" you would be happy with.

thats essentially what i said a few posts earlier ;)
concerning the "low beam key": thats just a translation error. in the original text it says "Abblendtaste" which would translate into DOF-Preview (the one at the on/off switch).

theres a thread about the same "problem" in a german forum.
it really is the aperure lever. if you have a lens on while turning the k7 on, the aperture of the lens opens and closes, too.
the OP asked pentax about this behaviour and they replied, that it would be normal and part of the new way how the aperture is controlled (somehow electronically instead of mechanical). this is needed because of the aperture control in video mode.

you mean between the k10d and the k20d ? yes, but i can`t tell you what exactly the difference is.
did you try to update camera raw? this will probably solve your problem.

that would be my guess, too. the grain/noise in the last shot looks very filmlike. but does a film camera extend ones photographic ability ?
