What are the chances to get a replacement instead of repair if you send your K-r in for service?
I have four different issues with mine after 7 months of usage:
- Erratic e-dial
- FF issue with one of the lenses
- Focus lock does not work properly when I hold the shutter release half-way
- Sometimes it will take multiple shots with shutter release fully pressed even though the camera is in single drive mode
Last two are not constantly apparent and I can recreate them if I try few times.
Any suggestions on how to deal with Pentax warranty? |

That actually worked……..
Mine was not responding at all, was stuck at F22 and I dreaded sending the camera for repair….
After reading this post I rotated the dial both directions for good 5 minutes and….it works now just fine. Also noticed that the click sound of the dial is different now, somewhat crispier.

I find this feature rather useless.
To prove it, try taking several “check for dust” shots, one after another and you’ll notice how the dust particles change their position and quantity - just keep looking at the LCD without changing anything else…
I stopped checking for dust and keep the dust removal ON. It shakes the sensor anytime the camera starts. I have never noticed any dust speckles on my pictures, have taken 6000 already, and keep changing the lenses frequently. Also I have never used anything to clean the dust inside the camera. |

I do not have an issue with the FF, it is minor thing for me and noticeable only with my DAL 18-55. I believe it is lens dependant.
A much bigger problem is something that developed after 35 days of usage and 5000 shots on the camera. The e-dial does not work properly and shutter release button / focus locks gives me troubles, too. I hate to send the camera to a repair facility, it will take 3-4 weeks and I do not know what they are going to return to me. I did some research and I found a repair manual on K10. They have to unsolder wires and stuff just to get inside the camera. ……I just don’t think a new camera has to be like this.
What is it going to be with 1 year of usage and 15 000 shots taken…and no warranty left?

He is talking about focus calibration, not the focus offset....50 centimeters are 5000 times 1 tenth of a millimeter.....
Anyways...the strangest thing to me is that the FF problem is apparent with my DAL 18-55 and not there at all with DAL 55-300.
I took many shots with different test charts and real pictures and the result was always the same.....I can recreate the FF problem with 18-55 only. DAL 55-300..never failed to focus correctly where I wanted it to focus.

Last few days I've noticed something strange with my camera. If I lock the focus by half pressing the shutter release button and take a picture, I will get another in-focus confirmation/ a beep and a red light in VF/ . It is right after the picture is taken and I am letting the SR button go. On few occasions the camera would take a second shot even though it is in single drive mode – if I happen to hold the SR button pressed a bit longer. It wasn’t like this before and it is kind of annoying.
A week ago the e-dial knob started jumping steps back and forward if I try to magnify picture in preview mode, or change shutter speed, or F number. There is another tread about that and I know the camera needs to go for servicing by Pentax. I am on 5500 shots and I will take another 2-3k more before I send it over to them.
Anyone with similar experience or explanation for it? |

Got mine (K-r) with DAL18-55 and DAL55-300 for $755 on December 31st,2010 from newegg.com
5000 shots so far and still learning what to do with it.
