PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
SMC Pentax 28-70mm FA* (FA Star) 1:2.8 AL Lens Asking Price
750.00 USD Item Location
Rotterdam (Netherlands) Item Description
Dear Pentax lovers,
Up for sale is this great lens from the FA* (Star) line of Pentax, the 27-80mm 1:2.8 AL.
All functions of the lens are in pristine working order. Clean snappy diaphragm, power zoom, auto focus, the whole lot.
Lens was bought back in those days with a micro chip (very shallow) on the front glass which did not affect image quality at all. Nonetheless, I have taken advice from the renown Lens Doctor in the UK and since the chip was not on the edge of the glass, simple professional polishing would remove the blemish easily, cost was indicated to be GBP80,--. Since there was no effect on image quality, believe me this lens is beautiful so it was part of my gear all the time, I never really saw the need to get it polished. The glass is very clean and void of any further issues. When I bought it, it got a simple protective UV filter on it which almost never came off again afterwards.
Here's your chance to get this beautiful tank of a lens for great imaging for a fairer price than anywhere else.

Hi All,
I have just snatched this lens up from Ebay! Great choice. Roentarre, I'm looking for a converter for the lens, any ideas? Does only the Pentax SMC-A Rear Converter 2.0XS work?
This lens is truely lovely...

Dear all,
Waiting for an FA* lens 300mm to arrive in the mail. Lens hood&barrel and the 'Pentax' brandname show signs of paint wear.
Question is: does anyone have experience with retouching the barrel/hood with, perhaps airbrush?
Take care,
Mojo

Dear all,
I just bought a Pentax SMC-M 100mm f/4 macro lens from someone. There was some haze on the front element of the lens so I disassembled it to take closer look. I stripped the glass from its metal casing. The front element looks like it has two layers of glass glued together and the haze looks to be in between the two layers of glass. This could be attributable to the cementing compounds used to glue the two layers together. Is there a way to clean/dissolve this residue? Does heating the lens help? I'm appealing to all experts on cleaning glass....
best regards

goodmorning to you all, I just bought an SMC FA* 28-70mm f2.8 and received it already. What a lovely (and bulky lens). A lot of people seem to have a hate/love relation with this lens, which suits me just fine, I like stuff out of the ordinary. But....there are some buttons on the lens for which I haven't found a function yet. There is the switch: AZ/PZ/Mode. I presume AZ is auto zoom, PZ is powerzoom, but what does 'Mode' do? Furthermore, the button doesn't seem to hold in that position...next to the switch there is a round button, which also doesn't seem to trigger anything, not even my ejectable seat : ) ('don't push that button!!'). Can anyone help?

I have the opportunity to buy this lens..I have checked the lens review database for a review but nothing turned up. Found some more reviews on the net but inadequate feedback on actual field performance, sharpness around edges of the lens etc.
Anyone with a definitive 'verdict'??
Thanks!

Hi Abbazz, thanks for the 'brief comments' link. Although I had seen this page already. Iwas wondering if anyone would give me some more 'in depth' commetns on the lens! But , as said, thanks nonetheless!

I'm on the verge of buying this lens, can anyone provide me some with some feedback on this lens? It looks in good shape but I have no idea of the performance.
