Has anyone else had problems with a K10 just not focussing all of a sudden?
I have loved this camera since I opened the box - it's been through every foul weather assignment I could muster and it performed like a champ. I like the image output better than my K20! I have kept up on regular updates, cleanings .... the works! And after ~300,000 shutter actuations, I fear it's reaching it's end.
Do I send it off for what I'm sure is going to be a costly repair or is it finally time to retire her?
The short story is I put on a lens, power up, depress the shutter half way - nothing! Nada - as if the camera is in Manual focus mode. But it's not. Double, triple checked everything.
Has anybody seen this before?

I recently upgraded from a K10D (although she still has a special place in my bag as a trusted backup). Primary reasons for the upgrade were the increased resolution and ISO.
So far, the K20D has not dissapointed.

I'm heading to Denver in 3 weeks and was hoping to sneak away for a day and see "stuff". I've been to Denver before, but have never had extra time to get outside the city and see what's out there. I have an entire day to myself but with fuel prices, don't want to drive too far outside the city.... an hour maybe.
Can anybody recommend an easy day trip or two in the Denver, CO area where my K10 & K20 can get out and play?
TIA!

The only PP I did was to clean off a dust spot or two. No color corrections. I played around with WB settings and the exposures to get different colors. The night sky, the clouds and even a warm humid haze helped out, too.

No, none of these were hand-held.

C&C welcome.
I was restless the other night and decided to take a stab at longer exposures after dark....
Each of these was taken using the K10D with Sigma 28-135. Exposures ranged from 5 seconds up to 30 seconds at f11 or 16 with ISO set to 100.

Must make room in my bag, I have the following I'd like to let go to a good home
Pentax *istDS body. Used for 1 year then kept in cool, dry storage. Kept as a backup body for a K10D and now K20D. Less than 6000 shutter accuations. As close to perfect as a used body can be. If I search long enough, I might be able to find manuals and cables that came with it. (no promises) Asking $250 + shipping [ON RESERVE DUE TO INTEREST]
Pentax PZ-1 (film) body. Has been in cool dry storage for some years now. Hasn't seen light of day or a roll of film in quite a while. Excellent working condition. Asking $75 + shipping. [SOLD]
I prefer to deal with US buyers. Last time I tried to sell the PZ-1 I had a hard time with somebody overseas. So..... if you live in the US and have the room in your bag, these two beauties could use a new home.

being an arachnophobe, I'm one of the last you'll find with a shot in the collection, but there it was in my way, so I tripped the shutter and moved on - thank goodness for longer lenses! |

This may seem like a dumb question - but is there any documentation anywhere that shows a user how to release said focus screen latch?
I guess I'm a little chicken that I might do more harm than good - and I really don't like the idea of having to send my camera to Colorado for Christams vacation at least without my trying to fix this myself first.
TIA!

HELP!
I've been asked to hang some pieces in an upcoming show and I'd like some feedback before I decide.
Thanks!

Earlier this year I had sojourned to DC for a weekend. The weather didn't cooperate but I dragged my gear out anyway.
This shot was taken at about 8pm after it had been raining all day. Cloud cover was low so the city lights were trapped underneath - giving a pinkish hue in the sky. I did not have a remote at the time, so this was done purely by setting the camera to B and holding my index finger gingerly on the shutter release for about 6 seconds.
Same set up - only the rain had started to fall ---- again.
I was feeling lucky so I stopped by the Lincoln Memorial on my way back to our hotel. This was about a 2 second exposure. |

My first picture post. (yay!)
On a short hike this past weekend, I snapped this while crossing a bridge over a shallow stream. The sunlight hit it just right - this is actually a reflection of the leaves above on the water below.

I'd have to agree here. I bought one this past summer for a celeb event I was hired to cover. I picked it up on a whim hoping it might help me survive the 300+ attendees as the only photog on site.
While toting around 6 extra C batteries on my waistline wasn't lightweight by any stretch, the recycle time I had was fast and I didn't miss a shot. IIRC, I changed out the batteries after 800 or so shots and finished the event without a hitch.
If you're going to do a lot of event shoots, I'd recommend it.

I just clicked my K10d for the 10,000th time this past weekend and I decided it was time to get out in the world a bit more.
I purchased the K10 last December (I owned a istD prior - and prior to that a PZ-1, ME Super & of course, the K1000).
I dabble in some fine art/macro/landscape and also do a lot of event work in the summer months.
Glad to find a forum that is dedicated to Pentax users/lovers.
