I've taken nex-5 and 5n to hell and back. Backcountry all the time. It's a tough machine.
Now we have one that's weather proof!
Name means nothing to me. What can it do?
A7r is the best FF sensor on the planet today, by many accounts, and E-mount can take any 35mm lens ever made by anyone. From 30's LTMs to any AIS---pentax anyone--I have several very sweet 50/1.4s from 80s--to great native glass E and A.
Call it an Edsel for all i care.
Pre-ordered A7r first 5 min available from B&H.

A7r + Noctilux f/1
Read one serious german review today, which looked pretty close at the video of A7 and A7r He said, :
"The A7R is Sony’s best handling camera to date. Excellent physical control layout and a unique rear card slot with angled door. Both headphone and mic jacks, unusual to find on a small camera like this.
The sensor is the best in the stills world, and second best in the video world just behind the 5D Mark III. If you’re shooting raw video with the Magic Lantern firmware on the 5D Mark III of course the A7R won’t improve on that for image quality, but if you need the convenience of a compressed codec and don’t mind a bit of occasional moire and aliasing then the A7R does a great job."

With respect, at infinity, past 100ft, there is no contest between e mount 50 and 50cron. The summicron is superior as a landscape lens.
Results to the contrary most likely involve focus issues or copy issues.
The new ff 50 may beat it.

While native AF with A7r will not be great, add the Laea-4 adapter, and you can focus alpha glass like lightning. Fast as any DSLR.
I know this because I have the aps-c version of this 350USD adapter with a translucent mirror, the LAEA2. I use it for birds with SAL70400g and nex-5n. Way faster than the native Emount AF. So infact the A7r is much more versatile than a first look at the specs may imply.
If AF is crucial you have two Zeiss Alpha zooms which are as good as anything available--that's my impression anyway.
16-35 2.8
24-70 2.8
I seriously doubt canon or nikon has anything better. equal maybe.
The advantage of the native zeiss 2470 f/4 is form factor and weight.
The FE Zeiss 50/1.8 has MTFs that are off the chart. It may be the sharpest 50 ever made, though Zeiss implies MF lenses better yet in the works for A7r.
I do not care for AF myself, but I will use it for real estate and some events, because it's easier.
We already know A7r is fantastic with 50 summilux M, and have anecdotal reports of good results with 28 cron and several 35s. As you may know the M9 and M240 also have issues with various RF wide lenses, so we can expect results to vary with lenses. Brian Smith told me the zm18 has good edges, if true, thats all that matters. Color shift you can deal with post, but not smearing.
In fact, Ron's A7 results are not as terrible as many are whining about, since the edges actually do come into focus stopped down from about 5.6 on with many of his shots. That whole "failure" is way overblown.

Holy Toledo, you call this a hate thread?
Swing over to RFF and see some real ones, haha. They are having friggin kittens, well about half anyway. The other half are pre-ordered. :) Like me.
I do alot of backcountry landscape stuff, so the nex-5 and 5n have been a godsend with RF glass. But I've been craving FF forever.
I thought they should have called it the SR-2r and used the beautiful fonts from that 1958 SLR, but I'll take the A7r :0

I hate that our industry is so lame it needs Sony to show the way.

We have been close focusing RF lenses on the e-mounts for 2 years with the hawks helicoid adapter, here seen with ZM18
They perform very well at close focus,

oh yeah, now I can get a 2200 weather sealed FF body, much smaller than m240........but it's just not pretty.
For all I care it can be pink with hello kitty stickers burned into the magnesium. If it works with wide M glass, it's a godsend.
