The K30 looks like the spiritual replacement of the K200d. A lot of people have said, "if they'd just re-make the K200d." Well it looks like they just did. The price is too close to the K-5's though. Certainly it will drop a bit later in the year.
I expect the K-5 successor to have the new Sony 24mp sensor. It would make sense but in my opinion it would not be an upgrade.

It is a nice camera still, there just isn't a big demand for it. You would have to find a buyer who's specifically looking for one. Otherwise, if it's not selling then you're probably asking too much.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
DA 40mm Limited Asking Price
$300 USD Item Location
Seattle WA (United States) Item Description
I bought this lens from another forum member not too long ago. It's in perfect shape, comes with the box, pouch, caps and metal hood. I do not have any photos of the lens because it's already packaged up to ship. Sorry about that.
It took me a while to realize how good the Pentax primes are and this one is great, but I no longer own a Pentax body so the lens has to go. Price includes shipping in the 48 states. I would ship Internationally but add the actual shipping cost.
Thanks!

I've been using a 10" Acer netbook I got off Craigslist for cheap, mainly because it has a hard drive. This way I can offload my SD cards and do minor editing. For doing any serious editing it's not fast enough and becomes an exercise in frustration. But it's good for checking mail and web, easy to carry and the battery lasts forever. A tablet with a hard drive and SD card slot is very interesting though, I'd love to get rid of the netbook.

I was just about to make the same post.
I sold almost all of my Pentax gear to buy a new Panasonic G3. But I couldn't bear to get rid of ALL my Pentax, so I kept a *ist-DL and a DA-40. That's it, final. Well now I just bought a K-x and a kit lens off Craigslist. It was too cheap not to buy it!
I was shooting with an advanced point n' shoot for a number of years and it was never a problem I guess because I was stuck with one camera and one lens.
Then I bought a single Pentax and used it for a long time before "buying stuff syndrome" set in.
Since then I've owned and/or sold a: *ist-D, *ist-DL, K100d, K200d (two), K20d, K-x (2), and a K-7. Oh yes a K1000 and K-m. I liked them all! (Personally I liked the K200d best for no definable reason).
I've been very good about selling gear I don't use and have even made a small profit over the last few years, but I'm not sure how to get over this. Luckily they all look alike from a distance so my wife will never know....

My personal rule is, if I have not used something for a year then it's time to sell it. Not only for camera gear but just about anything.
In your shoes I'd keep the K100. The K20 is replaced by the K5 and will see very little use soon. If you're using it only very occasionally, what's the true difference really? As a main camera it's a big difference. As a backup not so much.
If the kit lenses just sit then sell them, of course. They're both duplicated by your other lenses. If you sell a body sometimes they go for more with a kit lens... perhaps not with the k20d though, it's not a beginner camera but who knows.

Yes it's true I'm actually seeking the kit 18-55mm lens. I've reduced my kit down to a single DSLR + one prime lens but I'd like to have a kit lens for just-in-case. If you have a spare one I will buy it! DAL, DA or DAL II. No need for the WR version.
Thanks!

I lucked into a DA* 16-50 from an excellent Craigslist deal and I used it as my main lens for about 6 months. I thought it was a very good lens and I loved the silent focus. 16mm is pretty nice to have in a zoom. On the first day I had it I noticed the quality of the photos right away. But in the end I thought it was too heavy, and if I wanted to carry big heavy zoom lenses I may as well use a Canon.
The resale on them is not very good because of the SDM fears. And if you buy one used there's the risk that you're buying one of the bad ones. The fear of the SDM failure was always in the back of my mind too.
I have never used the Tamron and I'm not a very experienced photographer but if you're happy with the Tamron I would just keep it.

Just to mirror what others have said, you should focus on your studies. I don't know your finances but there are many students for whom a point n' shoot is a luxury. Your kit in $USD is upwards of $1200. That's a better setup than many of the career-track adults I know.
Ultimately if your focus is on your studies then your camera will become a secondary concern. One of life's biggest lessons is to be happy with what you have rather than worrying about what you don't. I'm very far removed from school but I still struggle with this myself ;)
With such a perspective then a K-x with a kit lens is a mighty nice tool to have. Or keep buying lenses and playing with the K-7 and forget about school. You'll have plenty of nice photos of the time in your life when you made some very poor choices.
Re-reading this post that sounded pretty harsh. But I can't think of a better way to say it. Having the very best camera gear at this time in your life is simply not important.

Most of what I'm doing is taking pictures of my kids, so I see a lot of Canon & Nikon. Most of them are Dads who assume the Pentax is a more advanced camera for experts.
When I meet enthusiasts, the older ones all say the same thing - "Oh, I used to use a Pentax a long time ago I loved that thing." Most of them don't really care about the brand.
The younger hotshots with a lot of gear are really in love with their equipment and somewhat look down on the Pentax, but it doesn't bother me to be honest.
I enjoy checking out other equipment, they all offer something unique.

You make good points, but I think you over-analyse. You shouldn't worry about things you can't control. Perhaps some buyers have been burned in the past and perhaps not... the only thing that matters is whether the item you bought in that one auction was accurately described.
If it was - great! Mark them positive. If not then send them a note and ask them to fix it. If they don't then press for a refund or give them a negative remark.
I think you're trying to be too nice. Some sellers really are dishonest - you should get your money back AND mark them negative. That's the responsible thing to do.

I've bought and sold hundreds of ebay items. I just follow some simple rules.
Only buy from people who leave good descriptions, have actual photos of the item and have 99.5% or better feedback.
If the item isn't as described give the seller a chance to fix it. Mistakes happen but a good seller will make it good. If they don't then, well leave them a negative.
Mostly I've been selling lately and I've run into some real, er, "difficult" buyers. I have to grin and bear it, ebay heavily favors the buyer. I would say they're downright hostile to sellers these days.

I have the 14-45mm older kit zoom and 20mm f/1.7. I'm looking to add the 45-200mm zoom and new Olympus 45mm prime when it comes out later this Fall.

What I've found as a beginner, 2 years after buying my first real camera.
Skillful composition has the most impact. The lens doesn't have anything to do with that. This is a skill that can be learned on a point n' shoot camera. My wife still doesn't understand how exposure works entirely but her photos are almost always better than mine just because she moves around a lot and has creativity.
I've used and tried some nice lenses, it does make a difference. Even with my unskilled eye there can be a big difference. But if the photo is uninteresting who cares how nice the lens is.
At first I thought wide angle was best for landscapes. After looking at my landscape shots with the 18-55 my favorites were closer to 55 than 18. This was sort of surprising. But after a while I understood that having "more" in the photo didn't make the photo better.
I've got to talk with some real pros who have talent. They're mostly using 4+ year old beat up cameras they have taken everywhere, with 80k+ shots. They never talk about the camera but they talk about the lenses.

Sorry for the bad taste in quoting myself but I got the G3 this week and have been playing with it. The interface is a little confusing, it'll take some getting used to. But man so far - I really like this thing. More than I thought it would. I will absolutely love taking it on long trips.
There are some drawbacks and I still want to keep a Pentax body with a nice prime or two but, this mirrorless thing is going in the right direction.
- Lens better than I expected. Nice images!
- I love swivel screens now.
- It's designed to use the touchscreen and, while it feels like cheating - it works really well.
- It's a bit slower, more awkward to use.
- Tiny buttons and wheels are difficult to actuate, makes it feel toy-like.
Nice.

Seeking a used but serviceable older Pentax model. Doesn't have to be in perfect shape but must work and preferably not beat up. It will be a second body so my wife and I can take a photography class together. Shoot me a message!

Does anybody need a second camera? I think a pro needs a backup. For somebody not being paid I think it's more of a want. But what I think isn't that important. If it really makes your day better then I don't see why not.
Personally I would go for a K-x instead of a 2nd K20d. fuent is right, they're different enough that you can use them in different ways. The K-x has different strengths, and it's smaller so might be taken more places. You might discover you enjoy the simplicity.

1) DA* 16-50
2) WR 50-200
3) FA 50 F1.4
4) (distant) DA 35mm f2.4
I don't really use any others... :-) I would like to have a DA21 or 15. I would use those.

Really nice, I like the 1st one especially. I agree with hcc, if you preserve the exif metadata it will help. Besides which it's fun to look at photos online and guess how it was done - and then look at the exif. When it's missing it's such a letdown... :-) Or maybe that's just me.

I started a thread on Tae Kwon Do, I ended up with the FA 50 f/1.4. I tried that and my DA* 16-50 f/2.8. The results from the FA 50 were much better. I was right down on the mat, so I was able to get close to the action. I was not able to appreciate the speed difference between 1.4 and 2.8 until I saw it first hand.
Lowell is right it all depends on how far back you are. Tamron makes a 28-75mm 2.8 that's highly regarded. Also a Tamron or Sigma 70-200mm. With the higher ISO ability of the K-x you may be able to make 2.8 work for you. I'm assuming your gym will be as poorly lit as most gyms.

I would be just as excited about the white as paying only $500 for such an awesome kit. The only one I like more is the Olive color. It looks like a WWII army camera.
