thank you for the replies. I will try the dead pixel mapping and see what happens, but the explanation of hot pixel on long exposure makes sense.

Please review my gallery images, particularly the night shot. I have about 8 or 12 bright spots that I believe to be "dead" pixels. Is this a repair-able defect? With ~23000 shutter count, I have gotten a ton of use out of my trusty K-x, I was just wondering about the dead pixels. MrThallid's Album: 1st Annual Festival of Color - PentaxForums.com |

My walk around lens is a Tamron 18-200. all of the faults in my photos can be attributed to my laziness and lack of skill. Focus and recompose can be a killer, especially when zoomed in. My main body is a K-x and without the focus points being visible as they are in newer cameras, I just accept my shortcomings.
These were taken with a rented K5-II but my Tamron 18-200 lens... Chips, Dip & a Mexico Trip, Cuatro (2013) - a set on Flickr |

not likely what the camera was designed for, but I did not want to take my Pentax Kx. I took 30 - 40 pictures. I hated maybe 3 and loved 9 enough to PP them... Below should be the original and the PP image scaled to 25% to save space.
Any fault you find in the photos is likely my inexperience with the camera and not a fault of the camera. I opened it Saturday morning with just enough time to charge the battery before heading out. Having said that, C&C quite welcome on both technique, composition, and PP'ing.

The first photo is out of camera with no PP. Why is it "pale".
I find that I frequently have to adjust levels to get the pictures as I like them. If the goal is to do everything (as much as possible) in camera, how do I fix this in camera?

I am a PROUD owner of a K-x and tout it to all of my friends and co-workers. I have recently acquired an "A" 50mm 1.7 and an "A" 400mm 5.6, both manual focus. when I spoke ot my dad about my troubles with manual focus, he explained that "back in the day", the focusing screen would have 2 half images and you knew you were in focus when the images lined up.
Do replacement focus screens (katzeye or other) do the same thing today with digital?
I thank you for the education I am about to receive! ;)

my experience with mono- and tripods has been of the big box store variety. I am looking to spend a little more money and would prefer something I could leave on the camera body and switch it from tri- to mono. Is there such a combination?
thank you for your assistance.

how can a lens be labeled "macro" if the nearest focal distance is 0.45 meters (or so) from the subject?
My Tamron 18-200 is listed as a macro lens, but if I get close enough to what I feel is "macro", even at a zoomed focus, I cannot get an actual focused image.
I appreciate the education I am about to receive. Amen. :)

I have only had the K-x for about 6 months and almost everyday I am reminded of how and why I am a novice... :o
I totally forgot to switch to MF and was getting TREMENDOUSLY frustrated having to wait for the camera's tone.
Thanks again!

I have recently acquired the Pentax-A 50mm f/1.7. I had read discussions about "front focus" or "rear focus" and was wondering best practice.
As a manually focusing lens, I do get a confirmation tone from the camera when an image is "in focus". What I would appreciate some education on is whether it makes a difference to be coming in from infinity or out from 0.45m when trying to acquire focus.
Thank you for your time and patience.
