I have the following,
FA 50/1.4 I found this worked well as a short portrait lens for APS-C
A 50/1.7
A 50/2
M 50/1.7
M 50/2
Pentacon 50/1.8
Leitz Wetzlar Summicron R 50/2 Leica film days, unbelievable lens
Super Takumar 50/1.4 x2 Nothing more to say other than what's already known, great lenses
Super Takumar 50/1.4- 8 element (newly acquired and cla'd) Love it
I am a Takumar fanatic and have a nice collection that I use on a regular basis for full frame and APS-C, nothing beats their quality and dependability for me.

Don,t be discouraged i think it is your demographic, I am from Hamilton Ontario and there are several Pentax dealers in the area, I know of two in Hamilton and one in Burlington. Bought mine at Burlington camera early last year they had a few in stock, they did sell quickly and more had to be ordered. They are so popular that there is a price increase at the moment.

Keep all the lenses if you can and try to use them, If you decide to sell be aware that the 135mm 2.5 could very well be the 8 blade version with a serial number of 43812 on the rear of the auto/manual switch. If it is then it worth a lot more than $100 at the least double that, You also would be pleased with 100mm f4, have someone at a camera store that can inspect the lenses for you to make sure the optics are clear and the lens functions properly, it is not a big process or expense. If you plan to sell them keep the above in mind. I have the 100mm f4 and 135mm 2.5- 2nd version as well as several other desirable lenses.

Welcome to the forum, I appreciate your skills as I had a friend whom repaired for 40 yrs at a Camtech in Hamilton Ontario, he recently passed and took with him a wealth of knowledge and the same appreciation as you for the film era, although he had some some disdain for the digital era he maintained his love for repair and his business never stopped. Keep up the good work,
my compliments to you sir,

Thank you for the reply I will keep that in mind on my next shoot, hard for me to keep up with the new glass financially at the moment but at least I have a supplier that would let me try before I buy which would help down the road.

Pentax K-1 with Takumar glass

Hi everyone, loving my K-1 with my Takumars, it is really nice to use the old primes and the results are better than I expected, my 85/1.8 and 135/2.5 give nice results however I am struggling a bit with the wide angle results? My 28 /3.5 and 35/3.5 were not as sharp as I hoped, a little soft around the edges but nice color rendition. I know I should not expect too much from the old glass but I have to say the really good primes sure produce some beautiful natural images. Has anyone had much luck with their legacy glass? I was hoping to hear of a resurgence with this glass but I don't find many discussions about it?

Ray here from Hamilton, Welcome, nice to be relatively close. Are you thinking of the K-70 instead of the K-1 because of your lenses? I was the opposite I went from a K-200 to the K-1 mainly because of my primes, Lots of Takumars,

Hello I have been upgrading my Takumar m42 lenses as I am anticipating using them when I purchase a K-1, could you provide a little more insight on the results you had? Any vignetting etc from some of the wider angles? How well was the 50 1.4 ?
Thanks
Ray

Stories behind lens purchases

Best purchase ever, while at a local flea market over ten years ago I came across a Super Takumar 85mm 1.8 M42, The man in the booth also had a Super Takumar 50mm 1.4 M42 but it had been dropped and had suffered a bit of damage. He wanted to sell them as a pair for $30 bucks believe or not!! I already had a mint 50 so I offered him $15 for the 85mm to which he responded ( I will just be happy to get rid of it and clear up some shelf space!!) Needless to say best day in my photographic equipment purchase ever.

Mirror motors for M series still available?

Hello, members quick question, I was prepping my MZ 3 camera for shooting on the weekend when I realized the mirror motor gear went leaving me with a mirror lock up. After a call to my repair man he was not sure if updated parts are still available. Plus the fact repair costs more than the camera yada yada.
Does any one know if there is a Pentax repair facility(Canada) that may still may be able to supply and repair this model?
Thanks in advance

My LX & M50-1.4 vs Leica?

Although I am a Pentax fan I do own a Leicaflex SL and Summicron 50mm F2 lens. This was a gift from a deceased family member and holds tremendous sentimental value as well as respect for a very well built non japanese camera.I am not here to preach of the benefits of owning one but only the facts of owning them. The glass used in these lenses do give me an image that I can pick out of my albums and say I used my Leica for that shot, and not in a bad way.Mind you I can also pick out my images taken with my Super Takumar 85mm 1.4. I appreciate the quality in both but can not possibly afford any of the other primes available for the Leica. Why the high price of this equipment?
I believe it is becoming more of a collectabilty issue than anything else at this present time.
