I have always been suspicious of non Pentax SMC lenses, but the quality is superb. Do you have any shots with a shallower depth of field with some bokeh in the background?

Are those cards 40x or 80x? If not I don't even want to bother. With K10D you supposedly can shoot as fast as the card can record, so a _fast_ card is important. I've heard K10D can write to a memory card @ 20MB/s. Will those cards at Staple sustain that speed?
The reason this becomes important is because with older cameras, the write speed of the card didn't matter _as_ much. The camera processing time took way longer and there was usually a limit in how many pictures one could take continuously. So a faster CF or SD card didn't make much of a difference. But now that the camera can process the images faster than it can write it on the card, the speed of the card _is_ important.
It might be worth to invest more in an 80x card.
Also note the *ist series did support Lexar's WA (Write Acceleration) extension for its (133x) cards, I hope K10d will also have that...

Hey Jeff, you said you have an Electronics background, so what is your take on the 22 bit A/D converter in the new K10D? What does that mean? I think JPEG only has 8 bits of color per channel and RAW has more (12 or 14 I don't remember) but how does 22 bit help then?

Great idea. This will work for a mom and pop type shop. Just go and ask about it, and/or tell them about the features that you know about it. Those are the shops that will listen to the customers and will respond to a perceived demand.

Yeah for a true "Macro" mode you'd have to get a macro lens, like the SMC P-D FA 100mm ($800) or 50mm ($550) F2.8. I was looking at these just the other day... while still waiting for my K10D to come.

As opposed to others, they didn't add the ISO 3200 option, and I think that' s a "GoodThing" because they know the limits of the sensor and they'd probably rather not have the option at all than have it produce something that looks bad with horrible noise.
