This shot is taken in early January in Finnish Lapland somewhere just beyond the polar circle. The unique point of the capture is taking a shot of a tree straight against the solar light putting the camera into she shade of a tree being captured.

It is very unlikely that such a high grade lens like CV58 couldn't match (not even say outperform) 95lppm K20D sensor. FA50 has almost 100lpmm stopped down (looking back to Yoshihiko Takinami test), FA35 & FA43Lim reach 100lpmm as well. Maybe the famous APO Lanthars (90 & 180mm) do better job here? You might have done some landscape shots with these two.
IMO, polarizer has nothing to do with resolution falloff (unless it's counterfeit:))

Thanks Kelly, great landscape ! Is it possible that the shot you've taken is slightly OOF? Looks like there's no sparkling sharpness like what I see from FA35/FA50 stopped down shots (though taken with 6MPx ist*Ds:)) Actually I don't want just 'sparkling sharpness'. I'm wondering if it worth considering to prefer CV58 over the FA50. My primary point of interest is the OOF rendering at focusing distances of about 5-15 feet

Hi there! Thank you for posting these gorgeous pics. It seems that the most of shots taken here are closeups. I'm just wondering if there are any examples of lens rendering at longer focusing distances, portrait work or landscapes. Thanks!

Amazing captures! Thanks for sharing. Looks like the lens performs very well. I have read a dpreview article about that lens - they point out a weakness (resolution falloff) at 135mm setting at full aperture. Have you noticed that softness? As far as I can see from your photograps in the beginning of the thread, closeups are quite sharp... What about longer focusing distances?

Maybe one mentioned just more detailed job, not really any better in terms of rendering. I believe the 100macro suffers from lack of individuality, has a kind of 'canon like' image :)

Beautiful shot Suro, thanks for sharing this. Helios 40 - what a monster of a lens! Once I borrowed Helios from my friend for a couple of days. It certainly has nice rendering but I find the manual diaphragm to be very uncomfortable for my hands, not to mention of manual focusing at full aperture that is a real challenge.

I'm second on hinman's post. I would bet for Tokina if you need its fullframe capabilities (if you shoot film). I'd been using Tokina 19-35 for several years and was quite happy with it. After that I traded it for 24mm fix-focal in hope of getting better bokeh (such a naive intention). Now I look back to my older photographs and realize how good the lens is. Compared to fullframe Tammy 17-35 tokina has just about the same sharpness but much nicer "rendering image" (IMO). Considering its price it is a real gem of a lens.

Would you discover the reason of the change? Could there be any reason (excluding the FF capabilities of 77th) of trading your 70th that allows you to take such a wonderful portraits? :)

John, you're right. The only SMC Tak that is optically the same as K135/2.5 has part number 43812 (later version, 6/6 design). Another distinguishing feature of it is the DOF scale. It runs from f/4 to f/22 (earlier version has to be from f/8 to f/22).

F series' build quality is known to be slightly superior than the latter FA lineup. There's also a rumour that F lenses are somewhat better optically.
