How to stop Interval Movie Mode?

That's a little harsh :D. Does it keep the video intact?

I have found that you can press the menu button and there is an option to stop recording. But if you shoot at a three seconds interval there is not enough time to go through the menu before another image gets taken. It works for longer intervals.

why is a full frame Pentax such a holy grail?

The market for a $2,000 full frame that also shoots HD video and takes standard DSLR lenses is 1000x larger than a $7,000 645D that takes $5,000 wide angle lens . BTW the DxOMark for the D600 is 94 vs 82 for the 645D .

AFAIK all 'levels' include the previous ones, so no need to do one at a time. Just install the latest. That's what I've done on my k-5II and k-01.

Pentax FF = A series?

You're hoping in something which won't happen.
I don't get why you people are hoping Pentax will change the mount; isn't it much easier for you to go with a mirrorless system, instead of an entire company to betray their tradition and it's users?
And the claim that Pentax should abandon a market much larger "if they want to live"... you must be living in a parallel universe.

Pentax FF = A series?

You do realize these 'rumor' sites derive income from ad banners and only make money if people go there to read to rumors? And what the translation says is: "According to the Yaotomi camera shop, Pentax will announce fullframe camera under a different series name (other than K)". So some guy in a camera shop speculated that an imaginary FF camera might have a name that did not include the letter 'K' and that is enough for this site to post a headline? I posted here over a year ago that the imaginary FF will be called the "LX-d", does that make my 'rumor' any better? I certainly have seniority, and I don't claim that the term 'LX-d' was original to me either.

And just below this 'rumor' we have "First Sample Image surfaced over the web, Mike Svitek unveiled the image captured by the new DSLR" And if you don't know who Mike Svitek is feel free to search for his name, I'm sure his reputation as a dependable source is stellar. And the reputation of the site you linked is deeply suspect because they are still showing the Svitek stuff as if it was true.

A hack to disable the crop in film mode?
Posted By jatrax

I know I'm going to regret this but I'll bite.

The sensor is called a 'crop sensor' because it is smaller than a 'full frame sensor' (which is really a misnomer but that's another story). There is no way to 'disable' the crop, it is only physically that big. And since the size of of the sensor impacts the angle of view as seen through the lens, the smaller sensor has been called 'cropped' because it only shows a portion of the view that the same lens would show on a larger sensor.

If you are looking for the same angle of view as on a film camera then you would need a camera with a 24x36mm sensor.

My apologizes if you knew all that and I misunderstood your question.

K5-II +/- exposures have large errors, in AEB mode >>

Hi All,

The Pentax K5 II AEB mode could have been implemented using one of the following methods:
(1) taking a snapshot of the exposure at shot number 1, and using this to calculate all subsequent bracketed shots.
(2) recalculating the exposure at the start of each bracketed shot.
Also, I have read about various cameras being more or less sensitive to extraneous light entering through the eyepiece.

So I assumed that method (2) might have been used, and that the camera might be sensitive to light entering through the eyepiece.
I tested this assumption, and found both to be true.

I noticed that slight variations in light behind the eyepiece, had a noticeable change on the calculated exposure value for each bracketed shot.
Shining a light near the eyepiece, had a dramatic effect on the calculated exposure value for each bracketed shot.

Making a black shade for the eyepiece, was enough to get consistent exposures (at least for a few initial tests).

So that's one possible explanation for my previous test results.

Cheers :)

Plenty of FA lenses on new Ricoh Imaging Website

Both links go to www.Pentax.com. In the USA, at least, the image branding is still "Pentax. A Ricoh Company" Of course that could be another example of Pentax USA being late updating thier website - but then it could be intentional, that PENTAX as a brand name is more important in the USA than in Japan, where Ricoh is the more powerful name.

In any case, the white K-50 featured on the Home Screen clearly has PENTAX in large black letters across the flash hump. I bet the camera has Pentax Digital Camera manufactured by Ricoh Imaging Corp, Ltd. printed on the bottom, too.

What's the issue?

P.S. My company, the second largest globally in our business (but owned by the LARGEST conglomerate in the overall broad industry) was acquired by the 7th largest company in our business (which was owned by the 4th largest conglomerate in the overall broad industry).

For some time our public name was (Acquiring Co. Name Acquired CO.Name). In March it changed to Acquiring Company Name. No references to my old company anywhere. Just never existed. Down the memory hole. The sins of the father . . . . Through their excesses and fatal errors, by association, our corporate parent had ruined the oldest remaining brand in our industry.

Sometimes the brand name that WE think is so important has negative associations that we overlook. Is it possible that people associate Pentax with old men who shoot film? With high school students who shoot brassy K1000's? With the totally failed sales / service model in USA? With Hoya Dealer Agreement policies that no amount of pleading sales calls will ever smooth over (that one is real)? With failed SDM motors? With Thom Hogan articles? With, "Excellent, but . . . " reviews? With quirky cameras for enthusiasts but not for consumers? With quirky cameras for enthusiasts but not for professionals? With quirky cameras for APSc enthusiasts who have sweet pancakes and mountains of old K-mount lenses, but Pentax doesn't have any new FF glass?

Is it possible that Ricoh became the 267th largest company on Earth buying good companies with failed brands and applying the Ricoh name to them? If so why would they not do that in cameras? Is it possible the brand is already more damaged than we are willing to admit and Ricoh is being especially expedient - in order to preserve the patents and technology - to SAVE the K-mount?

Is it possible that Ricoh became the 267th largest company on Earth buying failed companies with good brands and applying the Ricoh name to them? If so why would they not do that in cameras? Is it possible the brand is still stronger than you are willing to admit and Ricoh is being especially expedient - in order to preserve the patents and technology - to SAVE the K-mount?

I don't know the answer in digital imaging. But in my business, all of our systems and products and processes have replaced all of their systems and products and processes, even though all of their managers have replaced all but one of our managers. The other guys - the BUYER'S employees - have had to learn new systems and change all their business models. I just keep plugging along.

It has all happened to me before - in 31 years in this business I've had 16 business cards, but I've never changed my telephone number. And last week they gave me another new box of 500 of their business cards - and asked me to hand them my box of my business cards so they could be destroyed.

I really don't know. I really, truly don't know anything. I'm just thinking out loud here - but I've lived through this so many times that I know this. Even truly boneheaded, 30-year-old self-absorbed B-School jerks don't throw away good brands. They just don't do it.

And GOOD managers REALLY WORK to rescue good brands.

So think before you post - there might be more to this than you know.

Been a few days since I shot anything because I've mostly been working and running around selling stuff to make up for the money I spent on the DA15. Decided to force myself to try one of the shots that's been bouncing around in my head this last week.

Beware the Neon Skull- by C Rankin, on Flickr

Thought about putting some retro style sunglasses on the skull but none fit right. At least it was fun playing around with some LEDs and color gels in my makeshift studio (aka living room). This is version 1.0. I have ideas for the next version. Hopefully they pan out.

My daughter's friends iphone pictures are better than mine with my K-5

Ah, the whole issue you are referring to is spontaneity and access. Your daughter and her friends behave differently with each other than they ever will with you. So, they are more spontaneous and they each have their phone with them 24/7 so they have complete access to take those shots. This is part of why I own a Q and my K-01 is Yellow instead of Black. I find that I get completely different reactions from people to those cameras over my K-5IIs (which I would prefer to use). The genuineness of the emotions, the more relaxed presentation by the people, and the resulting images are a real issue and the main reasons I own those cameras too.

(Cross-posted from the Fisheye Fever Thread.)

K-5, Samyang 8mm FE

I found myself far to close to the fireworks for my 16mm lens. The fireworks filled the sky overhead and out of the frame.
So I reached for the Samyang 8mm FE and captured it all, including my family lying on blankets at the edge of the lake.
Of course, the FE has the detrimental effect of making the fireworks show look really small and far away.

I'd guess fluorescent overheads. They produce a banding effect that can play all sorts of games with what the camera produces.

I have been in the wilderness for 2 years now (photographically speaking) after the shutter on my K10D froze (after only 8000 actuations). Finally have a camera again after seeing a really good bargain (K01 with 40mm pancake) and took this photo yesterday. Loving being back into photography :D

High Speed Flash-sync (HSS) ? Isn't that also an option to get higher sync speeds, if your flash supports it. K-5 supports HSS.

Press the +/- button to make sure EV compensation is 0. Make sure colour space is sRGB and that you aren't using any digital filters. Try shooting Av mode, raw, and use different metering modes, turn off highlight compensation.. If none of that helps, try comparing your camera to another K-30, like at a store. Hope its still in warranty in case you decide to have it exchanged
