But at this point Pentax is a retro camera line though. And an excellent one!

Looking at the big Fuji Film simulation hype that is now going one. People fork out 700 euros easily just to get a digital camera that simulates all kinds of film types. I think giving us a (paid?) firmware update that gives us film simulation ability would be real easy low hanging fruit for Pentax. So many missed opportunities.

I don't get the hype or appeal. There is nowhere to bring the film to have it developed or printed anymore. At least, not in my country.

Why the Pentax Film Camera Project might be successful (article - opinion)

I tried getting back into film. Just because I loved the process back then so much. But I've been completely unable to track down any reliable source for film in my country, not to mention somebody or some company willing to process the film and print copies. When I went abroad to find processing options there, the choices were equally limited. That is why I don't see how this project can be a success. Unless they're also going to offer some fancy kit so we can process the film ourselves too.

Nah, you're here forever. I tried leaving too once. And I'm just one of so many people that came back because the other side just misses "something".

I've placed an order on ebay for a used F 70-210mm, just like some have suggested. For THAT price it can never ever go wrong.

Thank you for the suggestion. Actually, after I got my K-1 I sold off my old DA 55-300 because I didn't find the amount of vignetting acceptable. I started at around 150mm and of course it got progressively worse the longer I went. Especially when the subject was a bit closer.

I have a K-1mk2 with lots of lenses on the wide end. Samyang 14mm, DFA 21mm ltd, FA 20mm, DFA 28-105mm, HD FA 43mm ltd, FA 100mm macro. And more 50's then I want to admit.

Sometimes I miss a lens on the longer end though. So I'm looking for something to cover that for my next holiday. I love wide and normal primes. I don't like long primes though. It has to be a zoom lens. It needs to be compact and not very expensive. Yes, I understand that with those characteristics the image quality isn't going to be stellar.

I am now thinking of the following two options:
- SMC Pentax K Reflex Zoom 400-600mm F/8-12
- SMC Pentax FA f/4.5-5.6 80-320mm

The mirror lens is metal, interesting, slightly more compact and has a much longer reach. But the other one is cheaper, has autofocus and lighter weight.

Which one would have a higher image quality? I'm having a hard time getting examples of both.

Any other suggestions?

Any guides or tutorials on how to best achieve this? I'm pretty comfortable with shooting macro. Even with focus stacking. But, at least for me, this is next level difficulty. I'm really struggling with light.

I need a broad depth of field. Therefore I need lots and lots of licht. But I don't want to blind my subject. And then there's the reflections. There seems to be no way to avoid reflections 100%. Do they just remove it with editing?

Cool idea, but I wouldn't know where to buy film. And less so where to bring to have it developed.

Thanks for pressuring me so hard into buying this lens. :D:lol:

All jokes aside, this was definitely my best Pentax purchase to date. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Due to the close focusing capabilities it can do so much more then just landscapes.

Focusing issues were mentioned somewhere in this thread. I've shot 500 photos now with it, but all my focusing errors are definitely due to user error.

It's an extremely capable lens, and it's going to take a while for me to be able to use fully.

Dang! I had bought a variable ND filter with 67mm thread for my new beauty. The thread is good, but the rest of the filter half a centimeter wider than that 67mm. So it conflicts with the built in hood.

I know there must be slim filter out there, but I just can't identify them very well on website.

Can any of you guys recommend one that fits?

There's a HD version of the 43 though. I have it. It is excellent. It is actually noticeably better then the standard FA version.

These two pictures are both so much better then the example picture in the Pentax.eu shop! These are fantastic! For some reason for the pictures on the Pentax shop I just don't know where the focus is.

Well actually, I shot APSC for many many years. K20D, K-5, K-5IIs, K-3... And my favourite lens on that system was the DA 15mm limited. I miss it like crazy. And I don't have to tell people here what 15mm APSC translates to in FF...

Please talk me out of buying the DFA 21mm limited.

I have the K-1II, with HD FA 43 1.9, FA 50 1.4, K 50mm 1.3, FA 100mm macro, Samyang 14mm 2.8 and DFA 28-105mm. I had the FA 20mm, which I already sold, because it was sooooo very bad.

My opinion has always been that I'd rather have a few really good lenses, then a lot mediocre ones. I can only mount one at a time. And typically I only carry one, maybe 2, extra lens(es) with me. So I wanted to sell the 50 1.2, the 50 1.4, and the Samyang 14mm, add some savings and buy a new DFA 21mm limited.

Both the 50 1.2 and the 50 1.4 never get any action, because the 43 is so much sharper and cleaner. And the 14mm, which I find a bit too wide, would be replaced by that 21mm. The few reviews that I can find on the 21mm are never less then fan-tas-tic. Lots of good and logical reasons for me to initiate this plan.

But for some reason I feel like I just can't justify it. It's just so much money for one lens. Any comments that help me save money? Maybe good alternatives?

No, I can't find it in photos. Not even if I focus all my autism on finding it. You're going to say that I should just leave it. And you're right. But I still want it gone. Especially if it turns out to be a very simple procedure. That's why I'm trying to find out how to do it.
