K5 - USB or 12V Battery Recharging

I need some tips on recharging the K5 Batteries on the go, either through a 12V car charger, or USB connection.

I have a couple of batteries, but I also tend to hike/kayak for a couple of weeks+ at a time, and I am looking at this solar panel for recharging:

Elite Sherpa 50 Adventure Kit - Goal Zero

Any tips on how to rig this up to recharge my pentax batteries would be greatly appreciated.

if your other half is also using a camera, I think that you should definitely focus on buying her a Pentax sir body, that way your monthly budget to spend on lenses will multiply drastically!!! Over a candle lit dinner tell her all about the amazing limited lenses that Pentax produces, and the equally mind blowingly fantastic photos they take (especially the fast glass in low light situations...such as candle lit dinners). The following morning you will be able to buy every limited ever made...
...for the WR or DA* lenses, please repeat the above procedure in the rain.

... Please also note that the author of this post can not be held liable for any arguments that may result at home :)

Eddie, you are the ambassador for the 14mm F2.8 on this forum!!!
I managed to track down a person that wants to sell the pentax DA14mm second hand, will try and see how it goes with the K-5 on Saturday, and it just might do rather than the 15ltd or 12-24, hopefully for half the price as well... Will also try the 21mm Ltd as well, so these two lenses might have to do.

Just got the lens back, and the verdict is....

...cactus!!!...lens has had it, and the coating on the element is damaged where the little spots of mould were residing.

The good news is, I have a perfectly good M50 f1.4 for sale!!! Just serviced, and everything is well lubricated and moves, first to see will buy, my loss your win, etc etc!!!!!!:)

I will take it apart and try to put it back together, it is now destined to be a learning lens.:(

Sometimes photos just like reality may not be pleasant, it is often the case do we choose to look the other way or do something about... stop what is going on, or take a photograph, from the former a profession of photojournalism has evolved I believe.

I have to say that from an animal walfare perspective this is not a nice photo, but nor are photos of many other things or events such as: battery hans in England, force feeding geese in France so that people can enjoy Pâté de foie gras, clearing thousnads of hectares of amazon jungle in Brazil to make way for soya bean plantations, hundreds of homeless people in New York's or LA's parks, and not even mentioning the genocide in Africa, or what is happening in the middle east.

We can all take photos of our pet dog and discuss the rendering of the bokeh, but let's face it, it can hardly be classed as original.

And if Pentexian community is so humane, why is it that we discuss potential quality issues of lenses made in Vietnam, yet hardly mention the fact that an average worker on the Pentax assembly line in Vietnam receives on average $1.50 per day, and lives in questionable living conditions... bit of food for thought next time we reach for our favourite lens...

Even if the subject matter in the photo is not pleasant, the composition, light, etc and the suitability of the fish eye lens were the items I was more keen to get some feedback on...

Cheers,

Adam.

I have tried taking afew photos: outside, with the appature stepped down, photos were ok, i guess comparable with a bad $7 instant kodak camera you'd pick up from a Kmart clearance bin. Wide open, in a very dark corner of the shop, they were quite good, however, they did look a bit hazy and lacking contrast, but definitely there was potential for the lens to be excellant with clean glass.

I am picking up the lens tonight after work, as it has just undergone it's service, so I am counting down the hours till I pick it up... hopefully I will not cry if it was not fixable :(.

Have you had much luck buying new pentax lenses in Saigon, as I go down there from time to time with work?
I only know of this place (www.tixiai.com.vn) up near the airport. And have also spent a couple of hours door knocking on all the photo shops in the city centre, only managed to see a few lenses.

I am not able to try them out here before buying, its a case of making my mind up, taking a plunge and placing an order and getting it delivered.
At this stage I'm leaning towards the 15mm ltd.

If you had to make the a decision regarding a wide angle pentax lens, would you opt for the 15mm Ltd, or the Pentax 12-24mm F4, as the price where I am is almost identical.

I originally had the plan to set myself up with prime lenses, but the reviews for the 12-24 indicate tht it is quite outstanding.

The lens would be mostly used for landscape and cityscape photos. I love the size of the Limited lenses which attracts me to it, but the additional width of the zoom might be beneficial. The filter size being compatible with other Limited lenses is another attractive aspect.

I also have the 10-17mm fisheye, and I love the width, but am looking for something without the distortion.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

I need some pointers on using a fisheye:
  • Firstly should it be mostly used for abstract/creative shots, or can it be considered for scenes such as the one below?

  • Are there any other general rules to follow when using these lenses?

Any other comments will also be appreciated.

Also attached another shot of the same scene for a good measure (comments also welcomed)

Cheers.

I dropped the lens of at a Local Pentax dealer, there are no guarantees, but will only cost a few dollars for the labour, so I will see how well it scrubs up, and will post a few "After" photos to complete the "Before and After". Judging by the few Super Takumars in pristine condition that were also there, at this stage I am still quite hopeful.

On another note, say that a lens in its dirty mouldy state, has been tried on relatively new body, what are the chances of the mould/fungus spores finding a new home inside the camera body?????

I took the lens to a Canon service centre the same afternoon that I bought it, they did open it up slightly, hence the pain missing and the marks, however, they were not too keen to fully disassamble it, as it was not a Canon.

Hi,

I picked up a M 50mm f1.4 while going through the second hand camera shops in Vietnam to be used with a K5 body. From the reviews on this forum, these lenses are supposed to be quite well respected, and for the price that was on offer, I took the stab to try and clean it up. So now for the question time:
  • From the photos below, is that a decent fungal infection, delamination, or am I looking at another problem all together?

  • Do you think there is potential for it to be fixed, or would I be wasting my time and money?

  • As I will be working in Vietnam for a while longer, and the local shops are not too willing to help out with servicing, would it be possible to take it apart, clean it up, and put it back together without any/too many special tools???

Thank you in advance for all the help.

Thank you for the comments, I also have this shot, however, the large bright white space on the bottom right of the photo I find rather distracting... (anyway of fixing that in photoshop by any chance???)

Hi,

I am new to the world of Pentax and DSLRs for that matter, however, I have been playing with a Canon G9 since the day it came out.

Just wondering if I could get some honest/constructive (or destructive :o) feedback regarding the attached lizard happy snap that I took this afternoon, with the light dying down.

All comments appreciated,

Cheers,

Adam.
