My daughter returned from Masai Mara last week with several cards full of great images. You will likely get very, perhaps, uncomfortably close to your subjects. You will also be shooting from the top of relatively unstable and crowded vehicles. The environment is dusty and hot. You may find it difficult (or unadvisable) to change and maneuver large lenses. On the other hand, how often do you get to Masai Mara ... it might be better to carry stuff you don't use then wish you had not left the perfect lens at home.

Greetings,
I captured this over the Thanksgiving holiday. The Santa Fe trail passed through here in the 1800's, about 5 miles west of Dodge City Kansas. I stitched 3 pictures together to create the panorama.

I use the Photoshop "Photo Merge" function. It has been a part of Photoshop for a long time, but Adobe significantly improved it a few versions ago. It is extremely powerful, correcting for exposure and some lens anomalies. Though I have not used it, I understand Adobe also includes the "Photo Merge" in Photoshop Elements.
I created the attached image using Photo Merge from 12 images (2 high x 6 wide) captured using an ist Ds, in 2010.

I recently acquired a Sigma EF-530 DG ST and have used it successfully with both a K-30 and ist* DS. It is powerful and inexpensive. Though I can not say how it will function with newer Pentax cameras, I can recommend it for use on a K-30.
