Lovely photos. Lovely bird, too.
In the U.S. there's a bird called a Kingfisher, properly a Belted Kingfisher, known for it's ability to hover. Maybe someday I'll have a decent long lens and be able to post a photo. Yes, I'm thick of lens lust for something decent right now.

I'll agree with your culture shock. For decades all I used was a trusty Olympus OM-1 (pre-digital!). Nothing automatic, all controls were right up front and pretty obvious. The learning curve to get optimal results with my K10D has felt pretty steep. On the plus side, I used to be pretty stingy, considering the costs, and only took "good" shots. Now I can afford to really play around with the camera since taking 50 shots doesn't cost any more than one shot (except in brain cells...). That's made it easier to learn the camera. Have fun with your new toy.
