I tested my PENTAX K-x with my Metz 54MZ-4i. It worked just fine.
Last week I visited PENTAX Services Center in Japan, and I have done some testing.
I tested my K-5 with PENTAX AF540FGZ in the Services Center, and it worked OK.
I also tested K-5 in the Services Center with my Metz 54MZ-4i in P-TTL mode. All the pictures I took were over exposure which was the same result of using my K-5.
After that, I tested K-r in the Services center with my Metz 54MZ-4i in P-TTL mode. It worked just fine.
I asked Metz Support whether or not they have tested 54MZ-4i with K-5 firmware version 1.02.
They said that they had confirmed the results of 54MZ-4i and PENTAX AF540FGZ with K-5 were identical. They have tested the K-5 firmware 1.01 and 1.02.
It seems that my 54MZ-4i is working OK except K-5. Also my K-5 is working OK with PENTAX AF540FGZ. It means that both my 54MZ-4i and my K-5 are working correctly.
So I have no idea what is wrong with 54MZ-4i and K-5 combination.

Thank you for your replay.
I have confirmed with Tech support that Metz 54MZ-4i Digital supports P-TTL.
I is also described in the manual of SCA 3702 Adapter.

Thank you for your reply. About P-TTL, it is described in the manual of SCA 3702 Adapter. If we set the flash mode to TTL, P-TTL is enabled.

Thank you for your reply. I have confirmed with Metz Technical Support that Metz 54MZ-4i Digital with SCA 3702 M3 Adapter supports P-TTL and PENTAX K-5.

Thank you for your advice.
I tried using 2-second delay with 54MZ-4i, and I could see preflash just after I hit the shutter release.
So I think that P-TTL is activated.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I could not find any issue relative to Metz 54MZ and K-5 using Google.
But I could find the chart placed on the following link:

According to this chart, 54MZ-4i with SC3702 M3 supports PENTAX K-5.
So my K-5 itself might be something wrong.

I recently purchased Metz 54MZ-4i Digital and SCA 3702 M3 for my PENTAX cameras.
I set the flash mode to TTL to use P-TTL mode.
It works just fine with K-x.
But it does not seem to me that it does not work correctly with K-5 since the picture I took was extremely over exposure.
I took the pictures using P mode on both K-x and K-5.
I wonder if this issue happens on my own K-5 only.
Can anyone here use Metz 54MZ-4i Digital with K-5 in P-TTL mode without any problem?
