To be perfectly honest I had a Pentax before I had a Ricoh. These were in film cameras and Ricoh made better point and shoots. Pentax was the better slr, but being a kid point and shoot was my game. Ricoh's imaging was top notch. Although I made no money, I could see the quality in a Ricoh. So for this I disagree. But why would they change a classic name? Cause they pay bills.

Sounds like a nice trip. I like your Sigma 10-20mm, FA 70 - 200mm, and 77mm for a lighter haul that will capture it all. On a side note a great phone app is photopills, helps to plan your shooting times with location plotting. Have a goodtime.

I carry expensive fishing poles and a tripod on different trips I've taken. If you want to not worry about it get a hard case, pvc tube (as previously suggested) or an architect's tube. The latter can be cardboard, but they make aluminum tubes for plans. Hopefully you find something or a smaller tripod.

Wow I just bought a 77mm from Japan a few months ago for I thought a good price($485). Made since now that the newly coated lenses are out. Oh well mine is flawless and made in Japan.
