Your "ant" is a fraud. Count the legs: it has 8. It's a spider that mimics the appearance of an ant. I don't know the specific species this one represents, but they are fascinating. Some can even mimic pheromones and infiltrate ant colonies.

Those look like bat houses, and I'm guessing you were looking at SL Bat House #1. It's likely part of a conservation study or re-population program. Any idea of what "SL" stands for?

I don't know how old this oak is, but It was twisted and hoary before any Europeans settled the area. It's about 6 or 7 feet in diameter at the base.

I've got a K-x, not the K-r. I remapped the AF funcion off the half-press to to the AF/AE-L button. I'm guessing that a similar remapping is possible on the K-r. I found that it was a lot less tricky holding down the AF button completely than to try to maintain a half-press while manual focusing. It may not seem like much, but for me it means I can concentrate on using the focus ring smoothly and slowly.
