Well, I saw this and figured: why not give it a try. I love Pentax as much as the next guy, and I think that I need to spend more time on these forums, with FRIENDALY people who don't accuse me of being a fanboy.

In October I went with my Scout troop to hike Mount Greylock- the highest mountain in Massachusetts.
This one was taken on the K100D, A-50mm f1.7.
These two were with the K1000 on Fuji Reala 100, with the A-28mm f2.8. I love that lens. Even the light falloff is beautiful.
All comments and critique- constructive or not- is welcome. See more of my stuff at Flickr |

Quite simply, the longer a lens is, the easier it is to design. A wide lens is much harder to design than a telephoto lens, due to retrofocus and other issues.

That's interesting- it's marked as a KAF3 mount lens.

I just got one in perfect (and I do mean perfect) condition in trade for a KM. I can't wait to try it out on my K100D and see how it performs! Any tips or tricks for this lens? Also, why are 3m on the focusing ring and f8 on the aperture ring in orange?

Nope. Most likely, to cut costs, the Tamron ONLY has the digital contact. Thus, it shorts ALL the contacts, and thus produces the f1.2 signature.

From my experience from working in a shop, it's just plain better. More durable, completely weathersealed, smaller, lighter without feeling cheap, it can control wireless flash... the list goes n and on.
Having said that, if you have any good Nikon lenses, I would suggest you go with the D80. That would be my second choice of those you named.

So, I was pulling into the parking lot at work today (in my minivan). I'm somewhat distracted because I'm worried about my finals on Monday, so I don't notice that the car in the slot next to mine (this is a rental parking lot) is a bit farther out than it should be. So there I am, pulling left into my spot, when I hear a scraping noise. I immediately smash on the brake and pull out, then park properly so I can get a better look. At first glance, it looks bad. Really bad. Scratches all up and down along the left rear wheel well. :eek:The lady who owns the car is just coming out to it. Thankfully, she was very nice about it, especially when I leaned down for a closer look and saw that most of what I thought was scraped paint was really just mud transferred off my bumper. But, I'm still left with probably having to pay for a square inch of paint. However, the lady said she might decide to just leave it.
I'm really hoping here. I was hoping to save this summer for a K10D or K200D, and that's looking less and less likely all the time.:( Please, please, please, please, please.

Here are the instructions:
First, for all this to work, it has to be a PK-A mount TC, with all the contacts.
OK- get a small eyeglass-type Phillips screwdriver. Extend the helicoid all the way, and carefully remove the rear lensmount. Remove opposite screws first to balance the forces, and slowly remove the lensmount, taking the optical assembly with it, as the two are attached. As you can see, the contacts are small pins mounted on springs. To make life a bit easier, remove the contacts and seal them in a Ziploc bag until you need to put them back. Now, looking down into the body of the TC, you can see that the rear contacts are attached to the front contacts by springs. One or more may have come loose from its mounting, and needs to be reseated. Use a pair of tweezers to grab and reseat the end of the spring on its mount Do this for all the springs that need it, then close the TC back up. To close it up, place the pins in their holes in the lensmount, and then align it all. Make sure that the aperture actuator and reader levers are in the correct position- otherwise, you could damage a lens or camera that you mount it on.
That's it!
I will post pictures when I get a chance. Remember, if you want, you can send the TC to me, and I'll fix it for you.
Re: variable aperture zooms showing as a single aperture: this is normal behavior. Only a single aperture set can be transmitted via the "A" contacts. For AF zooms, the "actual" aperture data is transmitted via the digital contact- the same way focusing distance and focal length are transmitted.

You can't remove the optical assembly from the Viv. The assembly is attached to the rear lensmount.

Set the lens to "A". You'll need to set the FL to 100mm. Make sure you have the latest firmware on your K100D as well. Note that apertures will show up in the finder as they would with out the convertor- ie, instead of showing as f2.8-f45, it'll still show up as f1.4-f22.
Also note that some copies of the MFTC have an internal problem where they don't transmit "A" data. If that's the case, ask me for help, and I'll post instructions on ow to fix it. Or, you could send it to me, and I'll fix it for a small fee.
