K-5 opens up new possibilities

I got out and took some shots in the first two days after receiving the camera and
have uploaded them at this site. They are taken with three different lenses including my
twenty five year old Kiron 105 f2.8, the one lens that never lets me down.

K-5 opens up new possibilities

Having just received the K5, I'm beginning to feel that the use of this body coupled with fast prime lenses
actually opens up picture taking possibilities that either did not exist in the past or, if they did, were far more
challenging to accomplish. For example, the the ability to grab shots in low light conditions without the use of
the flash is proving to be be a lot less intrusive. This allow the capture of candid shots with subjects being far
more relaxed and natural. It's a real boon !

Add to that the ability of being able to use live view to capture images from angles which were
hitherto impractical.

Sizewise, it's a nifty little machine with logically arranged controls and is packed with more features than
one would ever need.

All in all, one big leap for the Pentaxans.

Well done, Pentax !!

K5 Silver not available in Canada?

Thank you for the suggestion, smc.

I wrote to Pentax Canada today and have been advised by them as follows:
"As the camera was not purchased through an authorised dealer here in Canada,
you will only have a 1 year international warranty, which means that if the camera
has to come in for service, you will be subject to an international warranty charge
of $50.00 everytime. "

When I inquired from them as to whether
there was any way for me to get the usual
two year warranty and avoid the $50 charge in the event of a problem, I got the
following response:

"There is nothing that can be done, as the product was not purchased locally.
Also, if you experience any issues with your camera, it may have to be sent to the States or Japan,
as the service centres here in Canada will not have any of the outer pieces, as they are exclusive to some markets only.
"

Looks like I will have to keep my fingers tightly crossed and hope for the best that
there are no issues with the body when I finally receive it, which I still have not, thanks to
Pentax Web Store.

And, for me at least, given the response eof Pentax Canada on the warranty issue and the
deplorable service of Pentax Web store, the lesson after this whole experience is not to buy
anything from them in the US.

Thank you smc, for setting the record straight. You are exactly right. I wasn't quite sure about how one is expected to respond to a remark like the one you quoted.

Thanks again.

Thank you, DJN77, smc and Deimos for all the tips. Certainly useful for the future. Not dealing with the Pentax Web Store any more for sure ! I informed them that I was a Canadian resident but in spite of that no one there mentioned anything to me about the international warranty. I'm not sure if I could purchase it now.

It took Pentax Webstore EIGHT days to ship my order and when they finally did, they did so by UPS Ground. As has been stated by Pete_tarmigan, they will not ship outside of the US, so I had to pre-arrange to have it delivered to an address in Blaine, WA. It's going to be two weeks tomorrow since I ordered it and it has yet to be delivered. After all this waiting, I sure hope I do not end up with the "Mandatory H.S Fee" and shipping costs in addition to the taxes.

QuoteQuote:

The limited primes are in another class of build quality. Once you've handled one, and felt the silky smooth action and solid feel, perfectly matching the feel of the K-5, it's difficult to use anything else. For walkaround, or if you are at a social event, you can have one of the pancake trio on your camera, the other two in your pockets, and you have a portable, high quality outfit covering wide to medium tele, without even needing a bag to carry it around. Lastly, but for me not least, there is the aesthetic quality of how they look on your camera - all of the Limited primes just look as if they belong on a K-5 - unobtrusively elegant. I'm comfortable to admit that part of my enjoyment of photography is the simply the joy of handling high quality, precision made equipment. So that's my very personal view of the allure of Limited primes.

Those are by far the best sentiments and statements that I have ever read on the limited edition lenses. Thank you bjdavey for expressing the sentiments in a manner that I would never have been able to do. Well done !!
