My [mirrorless] NEX-5 does double shutter, and it is essentially live view all the time.
It's not 'poor Pentax design' issue.
Sigh. Pentax always seems to get rushed to the executioner around here.

Bill, once again feeling the oddball outsider, turned right to follow his own path.

I would love a full frame, mainly for two reasons:
1. Decent viewfinders.
2. Having wide angles again.
I could care less for megapickles.

I knew Ricoh wanted to be a real player in this game.
Looking forward to reading the text of the letter.
Thanks, Adam.

Last month, the owner of Pentaxeros.com (Spanish Pentax community/store) and I joined forces and wrote a letter to Pentax presenting a case for why Pentax needs to work on developing a full-frame DSLR.
The list of reasons what quite elaborate (here's a brief summary):
In any case, Pentax listened! Not only did we get a written response from the president of Pentax Europe, but he assured us that management in Japan (as well as the R&D department in Europe) will be forwarded our feedback, and that (following acquisition by Ricoh) the company plans on expanding its Advanced Amateur and Professional product lines. Once I get permission to post the letter, I will attach in in this thread!
Update: here is the response from Pentax |

Love the Kit lens for this kind of stuff. This my favorite lens for night photography. The Pentax colors really come out. Very little processing was done, some sharpening and i bumped the high end up a little.

Rumors here at Ricoh are that the Ricoh camera's will be transverred / rebranded to Pentax. But I have to make it clear, these are just RUMORS.

Ufraw + gimp has worked quite nicely for me for the actual processing. Occasional problems (a strip of junk at the right edge) with K-5 .DNGs though. Should see whether there has been an update though. With ufraw the thing to discover was that gamma needs tweaking, gamma=0.35 and linearity=0.063 would seem to produce results that are reasonably close to camera JPEGs with the default settings with both the K-x and K-5.

A few pictures of Aurora from tonight. Straight from the K5 without adjustments. 25 to 30 second exposures. The big dipper is visible in the vertical to give some orientation.

Actually no.. even thougt the sensor is good its not perfect, hence you will be able to cram out more details bracketing images..
Here is one example on why I use HDR..
It is a 3 image photomatix hdr job.. taken with a k7.. Without HDR I would either loose the shadow details or burn out the white hull..
