My suggestion is to get a good mono-pod.
It works well as a walking stick and you can pop the 645 on to take pictures
and the weight only then comes into play with the carrying the kit to location
as the mono-pod takes all teh weight upon shooting.
& with proper mono-pod technique its almost as good as a tripod except for long exsposures
Its worked well for me these last 5 years

Why not take all yoru equipmnet and a friend and do a quick test video.
That way you will know which lens you like & works the best and also what your lighting will be.

I have used the Darkroom and am fairly happy with them
I shoot 645n and so use 120 film
I have gotten all 3 levels of their scans
I use a Mac and have never been able to access the higher quality of the "Enhanced" or "Super Scan" off their disc
In inquiries with them they say the extra quality doesn't come through until it is loaded into Photoshop
But - I don't use Photoshop & have just quit ordering the "Enhanced" & "Super" scans and just get their standard scan
Which comes with every roll anyway
It is plenty good enough to analyze the work and then
I can determine the keeper shot and scan the negative of that shot myself
But the negatives themselves & also the prints have been done well, at least in my case.
So just send off a roll and see what you get back and if it meets your requirements

The Grandkids are just getting into Photography - this would be sweet !
& my K3 would be safe for a while longer
although that would take away the excuse for getting a K-1

Mike, I'm sorry to hear about your job.
I have admired your work for a long time & remember seeing the Ladies when you posted it.
But, I think I'm too late, by a couple hours, to pick this lens up ?
Or am I ?

The first question I have is what bag are you using & what other items are you taking along that you are looking at shaving grams of space ?
A 15mm, 21mm, 40mm, 70mm limiteds and an M 135mm f3.5 all put you right at 1000g.
IF you shoot Prime and if you have no problem with the M's all manual mode.
If you shoot zoom - the 20-40mm Limited & the 55-300 puts you at 733g + the 15mm Limited then puts you at 923g
If you substitute the 55-135* for the 55-300 above you are at 1048g then adding the 15mmL brings you up to 1238g
So you are looking at about 2.2 - 2.7 lbs.
Your body weight will probably fluctuate more on the trip than that .5 lb
Or - you could always get a Q or one of the other mentioned cameras mentioned above.

Da* 300f4 or FA* 300f4.5 or F* 300f4.5 or A*300f4 - depending on budget & where you can find the best deal
third party - same price segment - Sigma 150-500
& a good gimbal head for your tripod

You need to load film in the camera and advance it to frame number one
Then it should come to life

back in the film days - before autofocus - one of the advantages of a fixed aperture zoom was that they could be made to be 'parafocal'.
that is - you could zoom out to the max magnification of your focus point - focus - and zoom back in to your composition framing at a lower zoom 'mm' and the picture would stay in focus. A nice - quick - focusing aid.
Now with Autofocus - it's not as useful but still nice - especially if you need to change your composition at the last minute in a quick moving situation
