I'm not sure I have that skill. However, I do know someone who could. Send me a DM if you have a price in mind, and a pic of them item would be very helpful.

I'm not sure if it's just the rear screen, but it's worth looking into. What would you need for the part?

I have a Pentax K-3 Prestige model whose rear screen suddenly died out on me last year. Pentax won't service it anymore. Is there anyone out there who can help? I still like this camera...

Here's a different question (I think):
Can you fit the Pentax MH-RBB77 Lens Hood or Pentax PH-RBE77 77mm Lens Hood on the front of the Pentax FA 80-200mm f/2.8 zoom? Inquiring minds want to know...

If my understanding is correct, lenses made for digital cameras were designed to give the digital SLR its best resolving power, so the formula created was for that purpose. This is not to say that "analog" lenses, which were designed for film cameras, won't work on DSLRs, because as just about all of us have delightfully discovered, the vintage analog lenses will work in an elite manner on digital cameras. Digital lense will work quite well on the film cameras. I imagine the distinction is conveyed for those who want to get absolutely precise information about each's potential is with the state of the art camera bodies. Whatever floats your boat, but unless you have an electron microscope to see, what little difference there is probably isn't anything to get too shook up about. Some of my analog lenses include the 17mm f/4 fisheye, the SMC-M 18mm f/3.5, and SMC 20mm f/4. Those aren't "A" lenses that will allow my DSLRs to work in all the exposure modes (just aperture priority), but the results are stunning and a joy to use.

Why not? I have been and remain committed to the Pentax system as I have advanced in photojournalism. Any upgrade is welcome. I have a lot of full frame lenses both AF and MF, digital and analog, so I have a vested interest in seeing the K-1 continue to advance. When the K-1iii comes out, I am sure I will seriously consider buying it for my work.

I do disagree. No, maybe you don't buy the K-1 for video, but I'd like to see at least 4K on the K-1iii. And just because you don't buy this camera for video doesn't mean it's not useful if you have a need. Plus, not having video on the camera gives the holier than thou reviewers something else to bitch about and I'm tired of reading them whine on and on and on. I do agree that some of the improvements that came with the K-3iii would be welcome on the K-1iii, plus the hybrid viewfinder that Pentax has a patent for, but I realize that's a pipe dream :)

Since I work as a staff photographer for a newspaper, once it comes out and I see all the specs, I would definitely consider buying it. Everytime you think a company can't advance the tech any more, they find a way.

I think this happens more than most people think. In my work, I carry both formats, since I have a variety of material to shoot fpr the newspaper that employs me as a full time staff photographer. I use APS-C, with the K-3iii and KP for sports, and the K-1 for general assignments, but especially restaurant and food jobs, where FF is clearly an asset. But for the most part, I don't think APS-C and FF really compete. If your system is primarily APS-C, you'll get the K-3iii. If you have a lof ot legacy FF lenses like I do (just got an original 2st generation K-mount 20mm f/4, just magnificent), you'll get the K-1. Ther cool thing is that obviously the FF lenses will work on the APS-C cameras with the 1.5 crop factor. Throw an APS-C lens on the K-1, adjust for the crop and if you can keep it straight in your head, you'll do just fine. I like this flexibility a lot, and what's cool is that I can take my FA 80-200mm f/2.8 and throw it on my K-3iii and the lens goes out to 300mm via the crop factor with no loss in f/stop. Maybe it's just me, but I see no issue between sales of the K-3iii and the forthcoming K-1iii. We've been carrying both formats for years now, we're good.

We know that an analog part doesn't exist for the Pentax 645. That's why I say it would be interesting if they thought about it. My point about Pentax applying old tech with new tech is still valid; I just bought a 20mm f/4 made when Pentax went K mount in the mid 70s, and I can throw that on my K-1 and every other Pentax DSLR I have, without adapter, and use it. And what is surprising is that the IQ of those old lenses still holds up incredibly well. You canmot do that with any other system today, now that Nikon has gone mirrorless.
Perhaps it is unlikely that Pentax would make a modular 645. But if they did, it would definitely be consistent with their past history of legacy compatability. That way way you could cater to those who want state of the art and still acknowledge the film resurgence fans who are growing in number.

A 645 with the Hassleblad like option to use a digital back as well as film back would indeed be very interesting, and very consistent with past strategy of innovating new while still being able to accept past products. Wouldn't that be something?

I'm glad I found this. I had the same issue when I placed the K-1 in LV, the flash on top wouldn't fire. I didn't realize the ES was on. In fact, I didn't know the K-1 had ES, I thought that came along with the KP and K-3iii. You learn something new every day.
UPDATE: I now know why I didn't know about ES. I have it in one of my K-1s, not both. The ES was the result of a firmware adjustment I made after getting my first K-1, something my recently bought used K-1 (in mint shape) did not get apparently. I hope to make that adjustment soon.

I like the idea of a 24-90mm zoom, I have the current FA f/3.5-4.5 which is quite good. Going to 105mm is very appealing, but not a hug difference between 105 and 90. I'm sure this 24-90mm would be more compact than the first one they made. I can be patient...

Let me just say something about Canon and the FD mount: Canon didn't create their AF lenses for FD because FD wasn't viable, the limited capacity of the mount itself wouldn't easily the tech needed to make it work. Minolta felt the same way. Only Pentax and Nikon were able to maintain a connection with their legacy glass to a highly sustainable level. Can't speak for anyone else, but that was a HUGE factor in my staying with Pentax. My legacy MF FF glass and FA (AF) glass were able to keep up with all the new cameras right up to today. I have a 17mm F/4 SMC-M fisheye and 18mm f/3.5 SMC wide angle that lack the "A" on the aperture ring but I can still use on every digital camera I have. Being able to use old lenses saved me a ton of money, saving me from the expensive chore of switching systems, while I gradually brought in new glass. There are no negatives about Pentax supporting old lenses. If they can make a mirrorless with the K mount, it could put them back in the game.

You make a good point, but Sony mirrorless had a eyepiece viewfinder, the K-01 did not. Bad mistake.

Just about everyone and his illegitimate sister-in-law has been trying to be THE ONE to put Pentax's last foot in the grave, and it hasn't happened yet. Alex645 is right, Pentax has introduced the K-3iii and new Ricoh GR cameras, and with a returning CEO starting a Pentax revival group on his first day, there is very good reason to be cautiously optimistic. Let's wait and see.

IMHO, Pentax gave in to the concept that a mirrorless camera somehow had to look and feel different than the DSLR, much like some auto makers felt an electric car had to be different from the gas car. Both were big mistakes. The new design Pentax was promoting was an absolute bust, the K-01 was annoyingly awkward to use, and had little appeal except the images were fairly good for the time. If Pentax could make a more conventional design much like Sony and Canikon did, I am confident it would sell much better. Many manufacturers often forget people will embrace new tech if it can be utilized in accepted conventional ways. GM had to learn the hard way that a viable electric vehicle will grab interest; but if the car looks like a squashed egg, that would kill it. Pentax had to learn a similar lesson.

It was a mistake for the outgoing CEO to say that there will never be a Pentax mirrorless. That's unrealistic. You never say never in this business. If Pentax could find a way to use the K-mount with a mirrorless camera, that could be a huge boost.
