I don't know if they speak English (I speak Japanese) but if you bring them the camera and the warranty card they should be able to take care of it. If you have to, just demonstrate the problem and that should be enough.

They were really good to me when I was last there, and very concerned about getting my problems resolved quickly. It might take 10 days but they can send your camera to you by private delivery service, so you only have to go there once.

Caution: They're closed on tuesdays and they close at 6:30 everyday.

The store I bought mine at was called Wink Digital, although their website lists them being out of stock of Pentax Cameras (unless you want a Q...)
You can also try Akihabara Outlet Plaza, here's a map: ?????? : ????????? They have the K-r in stock.

The service counter is called the Pentax Forum (not this website:lol:) and here is a map: http://www.pentax.jp/forum/access.html

I don't know what the problem you have is, sorry!

Ah...sorry I just noticed this today, I know where the cheap stores in Akihabara are that you can walk in and buy (that's where I got mine)

If you're going to be in Tokyo for a while, it's good to know that there's a Pentax service desk in Shinjuku, you can take your camera in and get warranty service and cleaning (for one year) and they'll mail it back to you for free.

AF problems with the K-r

Thanks Mattt, I appreciate the insight.

Not sure why the EXIF didn't come through, but just checking my settings here...
Guitar player picture: 1/80 sec at f/1.4, spot metering, spot focus (center), ISO 400. (note, this is one of the pictures that I like)

The other two pictures had the same values except the middle one used IS0 800.
I was pretty up close, so DOF was probably an issue as well.

If I could only get my friends to play without microphones...

jolepp, thanks for moving the thread to the appropriate location. I'll try to link to three representative shots, all of which were shot wide open at 1.4 with auto iso enabled (I think EXIF should still be available, if not I'll post it again.. I've intentionally not done any post processing and just used lightroom's regular export settings, shrunk down to web size. As you can see, the focus is clearly on the microphone in one of the saxophone pictures, but I'm not sure where I would aim my camera to get the face in focus (as that is where I was pointing. Maybe a smaller aperture would have helped, but when shooting live I always try to get as fast of a shutter speed as possible.

Any thoughts?

AF problems with the K-r

Just a question, I shot a bunch of pics of a friend's band's show the other night and had a lot of shots that were front focused (using a FA 50 1.4) in that the microphones were all in focus but the faces behind them were not. I was using the center AF point exclusively and was careful to focus on their faces, but would the FF issue be the problem here? The lights were changing very quickly so I can understand if that was throwing things out of whack, but I certainly lost a lot of good shots because of this. (of course, I could have been aiming the AF in the wrong area, that's always a possibility)

Any ideas? There were a few pictures that got the focus just perfect that are to die for, I'd just like to more consistently take that kind of shot.

Just got my K-r last weekend, and unfortunately the weather has not been very conducive to shooting.

Thankfully got to try out some outdoor shots and managed to coax my normally camera shy subject to sit down and pose in the park.

35mm handheld at f2.4, minimal playing with levels in LR3.

Hello!

Just got my first ever Pentax (and first ever DSLR) last week, looking forward to learning more about it and you all in the coming months.
I live and work in Tokyo, and during my lunch breaks I can often be found poking around the incredible Map Camera store in Shinjuku, although it can be a dangerously addictive place.
I've already found a white 35mm 2.4 to add to my double lens kit, none of which I have much proficiency in, but am very excited about developing myself as a photographer.
I enjoy shooting architecture, nature and street candids, and so far I seem to have found a great tool for that.

Would love to hear from other Tokyo Pentaxians for advice, ideas, insights and other information. We don't even have to discuss cameras!
