Lens recommendation for wedding / trip

First of all thanks to all for your kindly & helpful replies.

@imtheguy: I live in Uruguay, so it's not an option for me to rent something. Actually, my budget it's limited to that amount because for buys greater than USD 200 the gov tax me about 65%. For that reason I was asking for a lens within that budget that I can buy on amazon, Bhphotovideo or ebay.

@jjmdr-pdx: I actually feel more or less comfortable with MF but like it's a wedding I don't want to lose time focusing on the night (the wedding itself + the reception start at 9:00 PM and finish about 5:00 AM the other day) I was looking something bright + versatil. My kit lens it's a Pentax 18-55 not WR and not bright as the sigma one.

@Bob from Aus: :) My worries about the Pentax 35mm (besides I'd love to own that lens) it's the fixed F length. I think for both situations like the wedding or the trip, have a versatil lens with f/2.8 would be better.

Any other recommendation within that budget ? Don't matter if it's used by condition it's mint.

Thanks again!

Hi all,

I need a recommendation for lenses (I'm currently own a Pentax k-x) for a wedding of a friend (I will shoot - it's just informal) on October and for a trip to NYC on Novevmber. I don't have enough money, just 200 USD :(.

I was looking at these lenses:
* Sigma 18-50 mm DC (Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8-4.5 DC OS HSM Zoom For Pentax D-SLRs 861109)
* Pentax 35mm f/2.4
* and those Sigma/Tamron from 50-200 and 70-300

I'm very unluckily to have a really tight budget, but I guess you can help me to choose a good lens for both situations :)

I really appreaciate your help!

Thanks,
Andrés

Hi Vranx!

Thanks for your explanation and words! I am very anxious waiting for the DKL adaptor to test it, and leave my opinion here. I've been watching some picutres in this forum I found on flickr Flickr: Voigtlander. The bokeh is beautiful :), and they seems very sharp in the most of the shots, so now, it's time to wait :)

Thanks again!

Andres

Here I've found some pictures, and the adaptor + the camera but on a Canon EOS Voigtländer Color-Skopar X 1:2.8/50mm lens.
The pictures aren't of great quality, I think are the uploaded file. Also I couldn't get some feedback from Flickr Search.

If any here has these lenses, I will post my results when I get the adaptor! :)

Hi!

I get this two lenses on a Voigtlander Bessamatic-m, and now I am waiting the arrival of the DKL to M42 adapter to test them on my K-x.

Somebody have or have experience with this lenses on a Pentax ? What's your opinion about them?

Both lenses are in perfect conditions and both says "Made in West Germany", seems that they are great, but I don't know too much about them.

Thanks in advance!
Andres

Hi Mike,
thanks for your comment. Indeed the Helios 44-M-7 seems to be the sharpest after reading a lot in this great forum. Your pics are amazing, so beautiful! The one of the SF bridge is stunning! Seems to be a lovely place there, I hope one day I could visit :).

I don't know anything about the Pentax M 50mm 1.7, I will try to visit some store here to find **old** good lenses. Someone offer me a Pentax K 50 mm f/1.2 for 350 US dollars, It's totally out of my budget :), I bought the Helios and a Mamiya Sekor 28mm f/2.8 (that I will publish a review soon) for 35 US dollars :D. I think my next purchase will be a Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4!

Thanks again.

Cheers,
Andrés

Hi all,
finally I got the Helios 44-M-7 58mm with M42 mount and I'm very happy. It's an awesome lens. The only thing to take in account is the Focal distance that isn't 58mm, it is 88 mm in my Pentax k-x.

Thanks again to all, you were really really helpful in choose this lens!

Here, I leave you two samples:

Hi again,
I saw this lens in a photography store the other day, it's mounted in the original camera (here is the camera :Mamiya ZE.)
But the guy of the store didn't know anything about the mount, and he didn't allow me take off the lens to see the mount. Any of you knows if this lens use the M42 mount (like the Mamiya SX lens that I owe one - Mamiya /sekor 28mm f/2.8 and works EXCELLENT with some surgery) ?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Andrés

@wupdigoj, thanks for your comment! I've bought an adapter from Ebay of 8 Us dollars, and as you said isn't expensive at all, it will arrive in ~10 days. I think that today I gonna buy the Helios, and maybe then think in the Rikenon, also I have in mind a Super-Takumar f/1.4 a bit more expensive but seems to be of high quality.

Thanks to all also, because I've been learning tons of new things these days reading this fantastic Forum. I am very proud to be a Pentaxian :)

Thanks a lot for your reply, but apart of the cost, which one of both is better ? I'm willing to get the TWO (or the better of both).

And about the Adaptor , Can you point me to some link on Ebay or somewhere to see what type of adaptor i need? In some places I see M42 for Pentax adaptor, but the guy that sold the Helios 44-M-7 M52 58mm told me that I need an M52 adaptor, I am a bit confused now, because I am totally new to this.

Thanks again!

Hi, I am looking at these lenses, In my country I can get the Helios 44-M-7 M52 58 mm f/2 and the Helios 44-K-4 58 mm f/2. I see that the difference is in the mount type, The -K ones seems to fit directly in my Pentax k-x without and adaptor, but the -M one needs an adaptor.

Which adaptor is needed for the -M one ?

Is a huge difference between both ? I can get the -M version for about 15 Dollars, and the -K version (with the zenit camera included - only buy option-) for 45 dollars.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Thanks to all the replies. I think i will buy it with the camera. My problem is that i live in uruguay and here it's pretty hard to find photography accesories, and buy it in Ebay is an option but is expensive (60 % of import taxes, so a simple M42 adaptor that cost 10 dollars will cost me 30 because of the shipping and the gov taxes).

Apart of the Helios, would you recommend another one of the ones that I mention ?

* Ricoh Rikonon 50 mm f/2
* Super-Takumar 50 mm f/1.4
* Pentax SMC 50 mm f/2
* Pentax SMC 50 mm f/1.8

Another option ?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Thanks for all your replies. The thing is i am in Montevideo, Uruguay and here is TOO difficult to find simple things like you will find in the States or in Europe! I am trying to buy an M42-K adaptor but it's hard, and buy it from ebay isn't easy because I have to pay 60% of taxes for a stupid product :(.
The Helios + zenit camera here cost 50 US dollars, and i can find the Ricoh 50 mm f/2 for 60 US dollars. Then come the others for example, the Super Takumar for 75 US, the pentax Smc 50 mm f/2 90, and so on...

So First I have to find an M42 screw adapter for Pentax :(

Hi, I saw this lens to buy that come with the Zenit camera (only buy option). But I don't know if will work on my Pentax k-x. Which mount have this lenses? Are they of good quality? I saw the Lens database here and appear one similar but not this one.

Are a recommend option? I am looking to an Normal lens with f/1.4 to f/2 apreture. This is the chepear option, because i have seen Pentax 50mm SMC f/1.8 and f/2, Rikonon 50 mm f/2, Super Takumar f/1.4 (but i don't have the m42 mount).

Any recommnendation? I am a bit new with photography in general, so sorry if there are mistakes in my post.
