Pentax FA 77 Limited Silver [EU]

Item Description
Pentax smc FA 77mm F1,8 Limited Silver.
Great lens. I'm selling it because I don't use it enough to justify keeping it.
Condition
The condition is excellent. There are no sratches or marks on the glass, the aperture works perfect, the focussing is smooth. The cosmetics of the lens are 99% like new. The bayonet mount shows that the lens has been used lightly.
Comes complete with original box, leather pouche, metal lens cap and original rear lens cap. I have used the lens with a filter attached as to prevent any damage.

Hi,
I recently started with a two flash strobist setup. One is a Sigma 530 DG Super, the other flash is a Metz 48 AF 1. There is no problem using flashes of different type or make. The only theoretical problem could be that the color temp of the flashes is not exactly the same (i.e. 5600 and 5500 Kelvin). But I don't think this is a field relevant aspect.
Since you will be manually controlling he power of each flash unit, there is no problem in mixing diferent types.
BTW, I'm already thinking about a third flash for more convenience and lighting flexibility. Good luck with your set up.

Completely agree with Erasmo. Good lens for the money. Build quility is good. The lens hood of my 30mm comes off a bit light, but that really is a minor point. All in all a recommende buy if you want to play with a shallow DOF.

I think one of the problems the OP may be running in to, is the flash being used. If i remember correctly, the Standard version does not support high sync speed flashes. I can use my Sigma 530 Super without any problems at any speed, using the high speed sync feature.

All sound advice in the above posts.
I can understand your feeling that a business would be pag for all the nice 'toys' you can buy. But that really is a wrong way to start a businees imho. If you want to succeed in professional photography, you have to make sure that above all, you make a profit out of it. What you do with the income you generated, is the next big question. If you were a full time professional, you would habve lots of bills to be payed by your phography and in the early stages of you business there won't be much left for gear.
I fully support Kunik's vision in the above post. Being a professional means only spending money that generates income. Funding more gear really isn't the way to go imo.

Hi all,
I have a question I would like your opinion on.
Currently I own and use the Sigma 17-70 lens as a general walkaround lens. And it's good for that.
Lately I started to do portraits as a parttime job. I don't have a studio, so I shoot kids, adults and animals in parks, gardens, on the street, etc. For this a zoom is a handy tool, because it gives me a lot of flexibility.
As a mid range zoom I now use the Sigma 17-70. Exposureplot tells me I use it quit a lot around the 70 mm focal range. The long range is covered by the Tamron 70-200 f2,8 (great lens btw).
Now my question: do you think it is sensible to buy the Tamron 28-75 2,8 for portait work?
In general I like a shallow DOF, but in portraits around 70mm, I mostly use F5,6 , so in that respect the Tamron has no added value since I don't think I'll be using it a lot wide open. All it comes down to is the question whether or not the image quality of the Tamron is visibly better.
Any thoughts are welcome.

I don't think I'll miss the SR switch.
But the poll you have started is imho flawed, because the answers you suggest are biased. For you SR may be one of the most important features your camera, but that 's not the case for everyone. And even if it is the most important feature, that does not automaticaal mean that the removal of the switch is a bad thing, although your question implies otherwise.

Just a quick addition to my previous post: I'm sure the Sigma is a very good lens. But the question is not whether a fast fifty is a good lens. Imo any fast fifty is a great addition to a dlsr.
As to the difference between the Pentax and the Sigma, I have come to the conclusion that the Sigma offers not that much more than my FA 50. It looks to be sharper wide open, but the other factors such as price, size and weight are in favour of the Pentax.

Hi,
I have the FA 50 and have considered the Sigma too. I'll keep my Pentax because of it's light weight, it's smaller and cheaper. And the difference with he Sigma is quite marginal imo.
The FA 50 is soft at f1.4 but already quite a lot better at f2.0
Considering all the above, I would vote for the FA version.

To clarify, the EI2000 is a DSLR design (the viewfinder shows the optical view through the lens) but it has no interchangeble lenses. It's not a small camera by todays standards, but nevertheless a very nice design.

All of the above comments are excellent advice.
I own both the Jupiter 9 and the FA 77 Ltd. I can only add that he Jupiter 9 really is a very fine (portrait) lens. I prefer the FA 77 because of it's ease of use (AF, coupled aperture), but optically the Jupiter 9 can be seen as the 'Russian limited'.

Hi,
Well I do shoot weddings and I like the shallow DOF of fast primes and the ease of use the zooms offer. To a wedding I usually take the following focal ranges:
Primes
30 mm 1.4
50 mm 1.4
77 mm 1.8
Zooms
10-20
17-70
70-200
I find these focal ranges to be very usefull in weddings. Not all of the above is Pentax glass, since in some focal ranges Pentax has/had no offerings at the time I needed the lenses.

I think that one to one comparisons are hard to find, not many of us have these lenses at hand. I own the Tamron and i love it. I find it focuses quicker on the K20 than on the K10. IQ is great, very sharp even wide open.
I find the zoom range very good for practical use. I don't need wider, nor longer. I use it mostly for portraiture, sometimes semi-candid. It's quite heavy and I think I would use it more if it were weather sealed.
Another plus for the Tamron imho is the option to use a teleconverter. I've used it with a Kenko 1.5 TC and am very pleased with the results.

Hi All,
As most of you, I don't know whether these images are fake or not. And I don't know whether a 50mm 1.0 is technically possible on K-mount.
Pentax, as I see it, is a company that cares very much about technical excellence and therefore is more willing than other companies to introduce showcase products, such as a fast prime.
A new product has two goals imho: to be sold and to make a statement about the brand itself. In some products the focus is on selling a lot of items, in other products the focus is on establishing or reinforcing brand image. Top quality primes will absolutely do the latter and will sell too, if the price is right.
And combined with the previous point, my take on it is that a fast FF prime doesn't sound impossible.
And an FF future for Pentax? Well, that's a debate that will go on for quite a while I think. Imho an FF body is inevitable, not on technical grounds only, but again because of prestige and brand image, a factor that weighs heavily in Asian / Japanese culture.
And think about it: is it really that hard for Pentax to introduce an FF body? The technology exists (My Z1 from 1991 has 1/8000 shutter and I believe it has 1/250 flash sync) The sensors are becoming more and more usable and getting cheaper.
The lens line has to be upgraded, but Pentax also was able to introduce one of the finest lens lines for APS-C. And still we call it a small company with limited resources... Factor in Hoya and I think you'll see why I don't dismiss the rumors in this thread as implausible.

Hi,
I think the display we saw with the 1/8000 and F1.0 just was a sort of 'test' image of the display, to show the highest possible shutter speed and the widest aperture the display can display (if you understand what I mean).
As for the the DA 30, I would love to see a fast prime in this range, although I already have the Sigma 30mm 1,4. I doubt it would be faster than 1.4 or 1.2, but that's total specualtion as well.

I would say that the FA 77 Ltd and the Tamron 70-200 f2,8 are the most positive surprises I've had. But I can't say that I wasn't expecting much from these, on the contrary.
To answer the question of the OP, I'd say the Takumar (Bayonet) 135mm f2,5 has been a very pleasant surprise. I bought it for 15€ and loved it's sharpness and bokeh.
