Also . . . . . I have a question about B&H and supporting the forum -- I followed the link here to B&H and bought a lens from them, but there was no mention of supporting the forum after or during the buying process. Did I do it wrong?

I uploaded 5 photos because I want to be a part of the lens contest, however, they are far from pro level so I hope the contest is based on some kind of random drawing.

Also, I uploaded 5 and after signing in again I got a message about 3 being the limit. Hee hee. I assume that was some kind of automatic thing.

The Anti-Facebook Crowd...

It's not about being "off the grid" it's about how Facebook uses your private info, how they sell it and profit from it, and sometimes they do it without telling you. In fact, Facebook exists to do that. So it's nothing like buying something online really. Not from a usual website.
That said, I really hate Facebook but I'm on it because it seems necessary. However, I tell them nothing about myself, never have given them my phone#, never post photos or artwork (because then they own them -- read the fine print). They own all the data you willingly give them -- other sites do not do that.

Just be aware -- any photos you post on Facebook you are giving to them to use however they please. Without crediting you too.

I find Facebook useful in some ways but I make sure I use them -- they don't use me.

Should I buy a pink K-r and lens?

Depends -- do you love pink?

I wish now I'd been a little bolder and gotten a red k-r but I'm happy with the white too.

Thanks for responding so fast, JeffJS, I have heard wonderful things about the Takumar lens. As far as the adapter, are you talking about this one: "M42 Lens To Pentax PK K Mount Adapter Focus Infinity"? They are quite inexpensive on ebay, if that's what you mean. I have never used an adapter on a camera.

But to keep things simpler, I'll probably look for that other lens, the 50mm f1:1.7

Sorry to hijack your thread bjake but I also have a lens question. I have a new K-r and have never purchased a lens for it except the one it came with. I am looking at these two lenses: Pentax SMC-A 50mm f/2 Prime and a Takumar 50mm F1.4 lens. I've been told that the Takumar will not meter properly with the k-r and will not fit without a screw mount, so that one is probably out. Is the other lens a good one for indoor photos such as portraits? Thanks for your help.

Are you keeping your KR despite FF Issue?

Definitely keeping mine -- I tried to reproduce some kind of FF issue and can't unless I purposely try. I like to use manual settings anyway indoors for what I use it for, so I have no problems with it -- so far. Personally I wouldn't return it unless it was a glaring error that I was unable to get around. I also have the extended 2 year warranty from B&H and I assume that will take care of any problems that I might detect in the future!

DO you have the FF problem outdoors too?
I have a new K-r and I'm not sure if it has this FF issue. Could it be that only a few "batches" of K-rs have this problem? Mine does not have focus problems outdoors at all, (so far). I have other focusing problems but in my case I was sure it's because I'm new to DSLRs.

If a FW fix is on its way that is great news though.

Great tips, thanks! Thanks for the setting info. especially. I will try more later today and also try using the tripod.

The out of focus images seem to be caused by motion (mine).

RonakG, yes, after I asked the question I discovered you need to turn off Highlight Correction to get to ISO 100.

Thanks! I'm loving the camera so far. You're right, the questions & answers here have helped me quite a bit already. I could probably use a class but reading everything I can find online really helps too... practice should solve any problems that crop up.

Yeah, my dog feels the same way as your cats.

My "problems" also seem to be my own inexperience. My K-r does not seem to have a front-focus problem -- I did the focus test and it came out well. I just need more practice in using it. I also have the slow shutter speed surprising me at times -- but that can easily be changed. Other than my need to learn more I'm loving this camera so far.

K-r ISO and Lighting

Just discovered this newbie section, where I definitely belong.

I have a new K-r and cannot get it to use the ISO 100. I have the setting to allow it (extended) but cannot get the camera to actually use it. In fact it won't even show up on my menu. Is there something I'm missing? I would like to try 100 but cannot get the camera below 200.

Question about indoor lighting too:

I have taken quite a few shots indoors and no matter what the setting, I am getting some blur and only occasional crisp focus. I realize there are 100 variables for focusing indoors, but I wondered if anyone has settings for tungsten lighting conditions that give you great focus. I'm trying to get pictures of artwork from 2-3' away. I am not using my tripod yet because I thought this could be done at ISO 200 with propping the camera on the back of a chair or just holding it.

Hello everyone, I'm an artist who is a new Pentax K-r owner in Minnesota. I've finally graduated to DSLR and I've been reading this forum for almost 3 weeks now. It's the reason I chose Pentax (along with all the other great reviews).

I just got my K-r late last week and am experimenting a lot. Normally I would photograph artwork outside but we still have a lot of snow and winter left out there so I'm trying indoor shots.

To me this camera is very complicated but I will hopefully master it eventually, thanks to these forums and a book I'm waiting for and lots of practice. I hope this forum has a bit of a tolerance for beginner's "stupid questions". I will try not to bother people with too many of them. :)

ISO 100 on K-x/k-r

Quick mechanical question: I have my ISO range set to include 100 but it won't actually go down that far in any setting. Is there some secret for how to get the ISO to actually say "100"? 200 is as far down as mine will go.

I'm new to Pentax so I'm obviously doing something wrong.

Could it be the lens or metering? I have similar focus problems.

Hello, I just got a new K-r last week. It's my first DSLR.

I got it to mainly take photos indoors, photos of artwork. I'm having focusing issues, and I am as willing to bet the problem is me and what I'm doing rather than the camera. So, I've been reading about front focus issues. Is that issue explained here, what to look for and under what circumstances? My focus issues are both indoors and outdoors. I seem to have shakier hands than I think I do, but I'm also sure part of the problem is whatever settings I have. My focus problems do not happen all the time. I took a photo this morning that was amazingly sharp. But most are not. (hand-held shots that is)

So, I realize this is not the front-focus thread and I'm wondering if there is one that describes the problem in detail, what to look for to know if you have this problem. Thanks.
