I am just curious. Has anyone here actually had thier camera succesfully repaired for this
problem? C.R.I.S tried twice with mine. Then they gave up and replaced it.
The first time they replaced the main PC Board. The second time they replaced the
Aperature Control Unit, Aperature Control Contact Pad and Brushes. The engineer in me
would like to know what the real defect is with these cameras.

The first trip to CRIS, they replaced the main PC board.
On this trip, they replaced the Aperature contol unit and the aperature Control
contact pad and brushes.
To reproduce it, I put a lens on the camera and spent about 5 minutes taking pictures. Some in Bursts and some in single shot.

Well,
After a 3 month wait I finally got my K5 back from it's second vacation at CRIS and guess
what? It is still broken.
Now I have a fight going between CRIS and Pentax over who has the authority to replace the camera.

This sounds like the problem that my K5 has. In my case, the mirror assembly would intermittently make this abnormal "clunking" sound when I would take a picture. This would then be followed by the mirror flipping on its own. This is with the original Pentax battery, no grip. It didn't matter what lens was on the body. Didn't appear to be affected by the level of charge in the battery. Mine is on it's second trip back to pentax for this problem. After a 1 month wait for parts. it is finally back "In Repair". Hopefully this time it will be fixed. |

I had what sounds like a similar problem with My K5. Intermittently, when the shutter is pressed, It would sound like the mirror was hitting something. Then, it would start flipping the mirror up on it’s own. This sounds like it is taking a picture but, it is not. It is at the pentax repair facility right now. |
