Saw this in Facebook. I couldn't tell what camera this is, but at the very least, the lens is Pentax brand. Login ? Instagram |

You are right. Actually, my first camera was a Spotmatic F that was stolen from me. We suffered a breakin.
At the time I worked at Honeywell who was distributing the Pentax brand, and bought a couple of MEs to resale and make some money. Once the Spotmatic was stolen I started using one of my for-sale cameras. And that was it.

Same here! I took my family to a nearby so called "Magic Town" in Northeastern Mexico and was able to spot only two cameras; a Nikon and a Canon. This time I didn't bring my K-3, but was in the lookout. This comes to me automatically nowadays (the lookout thing, that is).

That ME Super is like mine, except that the electronics already died on me. I still have it as well as its f/1.4 lens that came with it. The body I keep mainly for sentimental purposes but the lens due to its fastness. ;)

Imagine this. I am in Mexico and there are no stores carrying Pentax products that I know of within my city. The nearest place to buy Pentax (with luck) might be Laredo TX but we cannot go there for the time being (covid rules). So, the next best alternative for me, is internet buying in the USA. Also, prices are much better than in Mexico.
Thankfully, I'm complete for the time being, no need (¿wish? You bet!) to buy anything photography. At any rate, I am Pentax all the way and have been since 1978. No other brand tickles me.

I think there are more Mexicans using Pentax than you think. Not many though. It is difficult to find stores carrying Pentax gear in Mexico nowadays. Actually, I bought mine (both of them) through Amazon in the USA. Liverpool used to have them in the past. At least I was able to arm-twist my brother to buy a K-50 or K-70 from them several years ago. There was also another K-x that a nephew of mine bought for college. I even bought for him an old (perfectly good) f/1.4 lens with k-mount that he needed for his videography classes. He sold it since.
There was a time (long ago) in which Pentax was THE brand to have here in Mexico if you were in the photography business, due to its ruggedness and simplicity. There were plenty of Spotmatics (different models) being used by reporters and other professionals. My first Pentax I bought was a Spotmatic F (stolen) and still have its replacement, a Pentax ME (broken). That popularity is no longer the case. The prevalent brands in local stores like Costco are Canon or Nikon, or both.
It is really a sad state of affairs. But I will stick to my cameras as long as I can or as long as they keep working, which I expect it to be for a long time. Cheers.

What? A Canon Rebel advertisement on our Pentax Forum? This adds insult to injury! |

Pentax was the brand that introduced AF in SLRs.

I started way back in my precollege years with a borrowed Spotmatic (probably the original one). Later in college I was part of the few students in the photography club using another borrowed Canon rangefinder. I won several contests with it (there were few of us so probably some of the prices were by default).
Then, after starting to work, the first camera I bought was the Spotmatic F (stolen). Then I bought an ME with a f/1.4 prime that I still use (the lens, not the body which was used until it expired on me). In my early married years I bought an assortment of film point & shoots (Canon) and some digital cameras (Nikon 950 and Canon Ixus 50).
But when I had the chance, I got a hold on a K-x (shelf retired) and my current K-3. In retrospective, I was using other brands different to Pentax out of necessity. But my heart has always been for Pentax.

Ah! A Spotmatic F! Mine was stolen many years ago. Don't make me cry, please.

With your comment you reminded me about my two analogue Pentax SLRs. They were first a Spotmatic F and after it was stolen, an ME (not Super). Both were fitted with their respective f/1.4 lenses. The ME I still have but it's broken (something in the electronics side). But the lens is fantastic. I have used it in my K-x and my K-3 with great results.
Enjoy,
Norberto

Yesterday, while visiting the Castillo de Chapultepec in Mexico City, I met a girl sporting a Pentax camera. Her camera seemed to be an older film camera with a pointy pentaprism all black. Meeting another Pentax user in the wild, where I move is very uncommon.

Here in Mexico, the Liverpool department store offers Pentax brand eguipment. But I sadly see that the physical units in display (K-50 black and red) are just gathering dust. No publicity, no special prices. Heck, the CaNikons have their own displays and cabinets while the Pentax is jumbled with other photography parafernalia. I have also lectured the sales persons about the outstanding features and history of the brand, several times to no avail. Actually, I wouldn't go so far as to say they are actually selling the CaNikons any better either, since my focus is only Pentax when I visit the store.

Last week I spent some days in South Padre Island, TX. Almost everybody was snapping with cell phones, one nondescript point-and-shoot, and a young woman carrying a DSLR covered by a hat. I wondered if she was ashamed of her camera or was only convering it against the sea spray of the breaking waves in the beach. Besides this, I was proudly sporting my WR Pentax K-3. ;-)
Cheers

I do proud myself of my K-3 and the Pentax brand, and wish to let whoever wants to know how good this camera/brand is, that there are other great brands out there besides CaNikon. On the other hand, any kind of DSLR camera will attract thieves no matter what brand you use. They might be disilusioned afterwards but the impulse to steal no matter what brand you carry will be there.
This are my 2 cents.
