I am pretty new to photography in general and today was my first day ever shooting with a fisheye. On top of that, the sun was not cooperating. These are the best of the bunch. |

6 months ago I bought my first DSLR. It's a Pentax K-x kit w/18-55 and 55-300 lenses. I have taken lots of photos since and decided I wanted a fisheye and/or a ultra wide angle lens. At first I was in sticker shock seeing some of the prices that lenses go for. After months of research, I finally pulled the trigger today and bought the Pentax 10-17 from another member here on the forums. The lens is in the mail as we speak and I already want another?!? I think I just fell in love with the Sigma 8-16. The price is much higher than I want to spend, at least for now. I guess I will play with my fisheye for a while until I can get up the courage to lay out that kind of dough for a lens.
LBA reminds me of an old reef keeping addiction I had years back :D

Wanted: PENTAX DA 10-17MM FISH-EYE
Seems like I may have to go out and buy a new since I rarely see this lens for sale used. I figured I would post here in hopes I get lucky finding one. Thanks for looking.

I have a question. After viewing hundred of photos trying to find the "look" that I prefer, it seems the Zenitar 16mm is what I gravitate too. My problem is, I want auto focus and from my understanding, this lens will not provide that for me. My next option would be the Pentax 10-17mm. Will this lens basically do what the Zenitar will, plus more? The 10-17 has a lot of distortion when zoomed all the way out but my assumption is, I can just zoom in and/or crop to create the same looking photos that the Zenitar would yet I would still have auto focus?

OK, maybe I want the DA10-17. I just can't make up my mind but since this one is automatic, I think this would be my best choice.
Did I mention, I also like the Sigma 10-20 too. Decisions, decisions!

What a great thread. Been going on since 2008, wow! I just love the right amount of fisheye distortion. The Zenitar 16mm seems to please my eye the most. I am hoping to run across a used one for my K-x. I missed out on one by a few dollars on eBay recently, I hate it when that happens. Wonderful pics, thanks!

Thank you much for your input. I need to read over this a few times and Google some things to understand it all but it sounds like you/I should be able to accomplish a lot for minimal investment. Just gotta know what I am searching for and how to use it. This forum reminds me a lot of reading Stephen Hawking's last book. I get about 20% the first time thru :)

A friend was telling me that I should invest in some extension tubes for an inexpensive way to shoot quality macro. He bought the Kenko tubes for his Nikon. Those seem to be hard to come by for my K-x. Not knowing a whole lot about tubes and/or photography in general, I figured I would post here to see if I could get some guidance. Do I really need AF tubes? Extension tubes seems to range in price from $6 to over $500. I have gotten myself lost in a sea of them all day today and I've come full circle. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My intended use would be inside a club like you see in the first album and the other use would be HDR beach scenes. Thanx

Oh crap, I wrote that in my last post and it didn't send and I forgot it this time around. Under $100 is where I want to stay if possible.

That lens is out of my price range, at least for now. Is there a fish eye adapter that will produce similar results or do I have to break the bank on a lens?

Just shows you how uneducated I really am :). I retract my fish eye statement from my previous post. A fish eye lens with be just fine. I was just trying to avoid that overly round look. I will look into that lens you mentioned. Thanks for your input.

I have a K-x w/ 18-55mm & 55-300mm. I am looking to get a lens or lens adapter that will improve the width of view. I assume I am looking for a wide angle lens of some sort. I do not want a fish eye lens or anything the gives that appearance. I am not looking to spend very much money, at least right now until I am sure I am happy with the results. Check out some of the pics in this album. I am looking to replicate this... BT
I also like these photos as well and would like to know what I can get for my camera at a reasonable price... 17 Amazing Wide Angle Images
Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
