Update and more questions(may be off topic):
Update: based on my post of 11/06/15 and the excellent feedback I received, I had decided to buy the K50.
However ( there’s always a however isn’t there?) I received a notice from my eye physician that it
was time for my checkup. I had assumed (very dangerous for me) that I would be getting a new
prescription because I had noticed that my vision had changed a little. Well, as luck would have it,
I am developing a cataract.
Questions: about cataract surgery. Generally, as I understand it, this is a routine operation, but I only have
one eye, so there is a risk factor. My questions are about which lens to choose. At this time, I am
planning to use a distance focus lens and reading glasses. This should not be a problem as I already
wear trifocals. There are other types of lenses available so any experiences anyone has had about
the lenses or operation would be greatly appreciated.
I am also assuming(ha!) that there will be no effect on my use of the K50 after the operation. Any comments about this also appreciated.

Thanks to all for your info. The K50 certainly has my interest, even new kits are reasonably priced.
Lowell Goudge - yes the IBIS and weathersealing combination are the reasons I started lookoing at Pentax dslrs. The camera size is also good. I have largish arthritic hands so too small a camera is out. The compact meter comparison site was helpful there.
As far as lenses are concerned, I have not got that far yet. In the "middle ages" when I bought into Nikon slrs there were usually two versions of each lens I was interested in. According to the magazines back then (there were at least four US publications), the lenses were virtually the same when stopped down a couple of stops. I have very little need for fast lenses so I am hoping to be able to look at some less expensive options - third party also considered.

Thanks for all the quick replies.
I guess I could have been a little more specific.
Budget - as low as possible which is not a very good answer. I do value excellent lenses highly and they don't need to be large aperture since I am usually shooting closer to diffraction than shallow depth of field. I am not expecting that I will be buying anything new. I want to enter digital as inexpesively as possible to determine if it is for me.
I shoot landscape primarily but anything that looks interesting is fair game.
I am aware of the crop factor and that the older lenses are not weather sealed. I have used my nikon lenses in heavy rainstorms and just took care to wipe them off as soon as possible and never had any problems. I am sure that pentax lenses are just as well built as the nikons, but that is a chance I will probably be willing to take.
And yes, after I have done some more research, I will pay a visit to B&H even though I live much closer to Philly.
I hope this helps some.

Pentax Forum members,
Most of the info I need has probably been covered ad-nauseum. However, I am computer illiterate and not very good at searching. I am also a dinosaur and still using b&w film and scanning. But my output has diminished so much that it is time for me to consider a dslr just for the convenience of instant feedback.
I have been a nikon user for many years and, of course, figured I would just buy a nikon dslr and use my old lenses. I soon discovered nikons did not meet my needs. After some rudimentary research, I decided that pentax might be the camera for me.
I need ibis and weather sealing. I need a decent handgrip, either built-in or third party. I don’t need autofocus or fast lenses. I will cross those bridges when I need to. I have read, I think, that practically any pentax mount lens ever made will work on the dslrs. My lens requirements are 35mm to 200mm equivalents. With that in mind, I would like to hear from members recommending the best camera and lens combinations that will meet my needs taking into account excellent image quality and of course, price.
I shoot primarily landscape, but I will take pictures of anything that looks interesting.
TIA,
George Wilt
