Welcome aboard! I would avoid the K7 if I was you and look into the K5. The K7 is a great camera, but the K5 is cheap these days and a much better camera in my opinion.

I hesitated to buy one because of its reputation regarding SDM issues. I have never had a problem with mine and I always really liked it.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Pentax DA* 16-50 f/2.8

Asking Price
480.00 USD

Item Location
New York (United States)

Item Description
Pentax DA* 16-50 f/2.8 lens with original lens bag, original lens hood, original front and rear lens caps, and a Tiffen UV filter. This lens has always worked flawlessly for me. I have never had any SDM issues. It has never needed any focus adjustments on my cameras. The rendering is very nice (lovely colors especially). I am parting with this lens because I am reconfiguring my digital kit into a smaller and lighter setup. Unfortunately, this lens does not get used often as I rarely shoot wide angle.

I would be interested in a trade for an FA Limited lens. Send me an offer if interested and we can work out all of the details.

I agree. I think it's a very intelligent concept, a very bold process, and is displayed in a way that is wonderfully shameless and in your face.

I wasn't specifically talking to you, but my comment (question) still stands. You are free to like or dislike anything, but I think your critique of Richard Prince's work is under-informed and arrogant. Using the word "dumb" when you talk about someone's work says more about your artistic vocabulary than it does about their work.

Thank you for clarifying what comments I can't just toss around. The growth I was referring to, on a photography forum, was obviously photographic (artistic) growth.

At least we are in agreement about something. I feel the same way about some of your comments.

I'm pretty sure that if you gave your clients, your wife's clients, or just about anyone's clients a body of work that was anywhere near as interesting as Richard Prince's work, they would be more than happy. There are many people out there who have open minds to the possibilities of art and the possibilities of photography beyond the polished image. If you don't know what constitutes "good art," then why not try to figure that out? Honing the technical aspects of image making and hard work may get you some clients, but an open mind may lead to much more growth.

Just because you don't see the value in his work doesn't mean it has no value. Would you view his work differently if he used the shutter button instead of the print screen button?

I know I am in the minority here (in many ways), but I like Richard Prince's work. One of the aspects about his work that I find fascinating is that he brings the topic of originality into the conversation. People get heated over the thought of "stealing" work, which they certainly have a right to, but on some level everyone steals work. We all develop our sense of aesthetics based on what we have seen in the past. As one example, there are many landscape shooters who desperately spend their lives trying to make images that look like Ansel Adams' prints. We all draw a line in the sand in a different place regarding the balance of influence and theft. Richard Prince's work (for those who don't outwardly dismiss it) makes us think about the whole concept of originality and provokes us to ask ourselves how much of what we do is re-appropriated from the images we have spent our lives immersed in.

Richard Prince: Pervert, Troll, Genius -- Vulture

This link is an article about Richard Prince's "New Portraits," by (well known art critic) Jerry Saltz. The perspective is much different than that of the originally posted article.

I think Adam was commenting on the quality of Ron's post. I don't think there has been an official announcement of a winner yet?

The third image has a nice sense of energy. It reminds me a little of Nirvana's Bleach album art (it probably helps that the guitarist is left-handed).

I like that the kid in the foreground doesn't seem to care. He adds an interesting element to the image. It makes me wonder what his attention is focused on.

She looks much healthier on flickr but I find the background colors to be a bit overwhelming. The depth of field is just right to emphasize the importance of the woman, but the pinkish reds keep pulling my eye from her. I think that an out of focus background should give context to an image without serving as a distraction. I recommend some more work on the color management and possibly some slight desaturation of the background colors.

I would suggest working on the color management starting with her skin tones. Her skin is very grayish, which gives her an unhealthy appearance.

I have avoided getting the 31mm because I fear that I would neglect my other lenses. Although my other lenses do not necessarily have pixie dust, they do have feelings. ;)

If I was Canon (or Nikon), I would stay away from this type of publicity. Unfortunately, not enough people know/care enough about issues of this sort.
