I had to wait less than a minute for LR6 to process three DNG images from a K5 and the resulting 75MB HDR DNG had a much wider range of development possibilities than the individual files. These development steps are surely a crucial part of producing an image. Your "have to tweak as an extra step" comment reminds me of those who prefer JPEG over RAW because of the "extra" work involved.
Sure there are other HDR/Pano programs that have more features; but I think LR6's HDR/Pano tools do a great job and are very useful for photographers. Your experience obviously differs, so we can agree to disagree.

I tried it too and there isn't "one flavor" of HDR, you have a .dng file after the conversion and can edit it as you wish, including the grungy look, just increase Clarity and there it is.
So your "HDR and Pano suck" comment is uninformed.

K5iis price in Europe

Just checked to see if the K5iis is still available, on Ricoh's German website it's selling for € 949 (1,023 USD) body only. On Ricoh's US site it's priced at 699.95 USD (€ 649).
I realise there is sales tax on the US price, but it's still a massive € 300 (320 USD) price difference.

Any ideas why this is so?

Hi Chobin

Welcome to the forum.

I lived in Singapore from 2010 till 2012 and bought my K5 there, plus the DA70, DA21, DA35 Macro and more. I bought it all at SLR Revolution in Funan Digitalife Mall on North Bridge Road so you can get Pentax there if you look around, there are other stores in the same mall that stock Pentax too. I even managed to get them to price match on a couple of items.

Thanks again Mickey for your comments and you too daacon.

Here's the uncropped version of the "rocket" to compare. As you can see I really wasn't too far away from him, but also not close enough for the 70mm to fill the frame. The crop shows me how great the K-5 is, as I couldn't have done that with my old DS without major problems.
Even so next time I must have a longer lens with me, although my longest is "only" the 80-320 it has become so much more useful on the K-.5 using TAV @ F8 1/600. I really don't know why I left it at home:mad:

Took a few shots of this heron and then he decided that I was spoiling his fishing and took off. I forgot to check my settings and with the DA70 wide open at F3.2 and a shutter speed of 1/2500 and ISO400 it didn't come out too bad. I used Continuous Shooting at High for the first time here and was pleased with it. The photo is heavily cropped as I was only expecting to use the DA35 Macro and DA70 that day and didn't have anything longer.

CC very welcome.

Yes Mike that would be something, but he's not very interested as yet. Although sometimes he shoots a few photos with my mother's old P+S which he inherited. One day when he's ready:)

The MZ-7 has a fresh roll of T-Max100 loaded and is only waiting for me to get motivated and come up with some ideas for motives.

But the DS is still brooding at the back of the cupboard wearing only a bodycap instead of that lovely DA21:(

As I wrote in my first post he's playing a snare drum, the guy behind him is playing a floor tom tom on a harness. They really put some effort into their playing and were very loud. Not an easy job in the high humidity here in Singapore. The band was called Urban Drum Crew and they were brilliant.

I really like your take on it pent up and like your LR ideas, too.

ISO 25600 with FA 80-320

Hi zapp,

Well of course I don't need to take photos in total darkness and this was certainly not taken in total darkness at all, in fact it was early evening. If you read my initial post again you'll see that I let the ISO rise as an experiment to see what the K5 could do.

Also the 80-320 needs F8 to be sharp and I need 1/500 to be able to hand hold it and have a reasonable chance of a sharp photo, TAV wanted ISO25600 to meet these requirements and I'm more than happy with the result, especially after seeing what some of our fellow forum members did to improve on my efforts.

For me these are valid reasons to make use of the possibilities this great camera offers.

The 80-320 has had bad press and it's certainly not a premium lens as you say, but I've rediscovered it using the K5 in TAV mode and being able to have a shutter speed of 1/400 or 500 @ F8 where it is a bit sharper. I always found it difficult to hand hold on my MZ-7 and istDS cameras, but now with the K5's high ISO performance plus SR and TAV I can get shots that were not possible previously.:D

I'd also like to know what you did in PP G-Diesel. I'd already done a little on it in LR but you have improved it a great deal.

I don't have Topaz Denoise so can't try it out. Is it worth getting for the occasional photos such as these? Or is it just way better at noise reduction at all ISOs when compared to LR3?

By the way I had High-ISO NR set on Auto in camera, and haven't tried out the other options yet. What settings do all of you use?

Used my 10 year old FA 80-320 on the K5 yesterday at the Christmas bazar at my son's school in Singapore.
In TAV mode @ F8, 1/400 and 1/500sec I got some ok shots at lower ISOs but as the evening got a little darker I let the ISO float up just to see what would be the result.

This photo has lots of noise and is not very sharp but after some PP using LR3 with a noise reduction Luminance setting of 30, I think it's really not tooooo bad.

I don't expect anyone to rave over the quality of this photo, but it's pretty astounding to see what the K5 is capable of.
By the way he's playing a snare drum and the whole group were brilliant.

Sadly totally neglected brothers since I got the K5.:(

I bought the MZ7 new just before my son was born and he'll be 10 in 3 three weeks! I learnt a lot using this camera and I must buy some film and use it again.

6 years ago the MZ7 was ousted by the DS, my first digitial camera and boy did I learn even more with it. A wonderful tool when you learn to deal with its under exposure, which I did gladly. I haven't used it since January this year when I got the K5. And the learning just goes on and on, what a great camera it truly is.

I took this photo this morning here in Singapore. The cameras were on an old t shirt as a backdrop and for the first time in their lives both wore Limited lenses:). The M 1:4 100 lens was on the K5 which was on a tripod and with Cactus V5s triggering a snooted Metz 58 AF2 bounced off of a silver foil reflector off to the camera left.
I did a fair bit of PP in LR and am quite pleased with the result.
What do you think? Advice and help will be gratefully received.

Some great photos here.

Here's one of the Christmas decorations in the Paragon Shopping Mall on Orchard Road, Singapore taken with the Zenitar K2,8/16 and a version de-fished using Lightroom's Lens Profile for the DA10-17 and adjusting Distortion to -24 under Manual/Transform.

So just to confirm, with a cord you can use the 58AF-2 on P-TTL HSS off camera and shoot faster than 1/180th the same as you can when the flash is on the hot shoe?

But if the hot shoe becomes inactive above 1/180th would using the cord you linked to work or not? It is, after all, connected to the hot shoe so would it not also be inactive?
Thank you for your really useful help on this thread it has helped me gain more insights into the use of flash.

When using the pop up flash as a trigger the Metz must be set to slave but then it can't be set to A ( or any other mode) at the same time, can it? Using the Cactus V5s it works fine though.
