Thanks guys. BTW, I just reviewed the K5 soon after posting and I realized that's what I want, not the K7. Now to locate it in India. :)

Make that the K-5 not the K-7, never really checked out the reviews for K-5 until now. I see some K-5 owners here. Please enlighten where you purchased it from.

Thanks

Hello Pentax'ians

I just joined this forum. I am planning to purchase my first DSLR this year and have zeroed in on the K7. I wanted something not mind-blowingly expensive and one that reminds me of the old Yashica Electro 35 I once used. After owning an Canon S5IS, and Lumix Lx3 I have realized that I still yearn for a heavy and sturdy camera with the old fashioned minimalist and tactile manual feel. Not sure if the K7 will give me all of these either (especially the gritty tactile feel of turning the film advance lever), but after going through a few reviews I think the K7 would be a good start?

Please see my introduction in the introductions section of the forum (yet to be approved post).

Now the challenge is how to procure it and the associated lenses. I live in Bengaluru. I think I will start with an 18-55mm lens and would like to add another lens that goes up to 300mm. Budget can stretch to 80 - 90k for new. I am in no hurry to buy so it can wait, but figured I would start the process of planning now with some pointers from you folks.

Thanks in Advance

Hello Pentax'ians

I just joined this forum. I am planning to purchase my first DSLR this year and have zeroed in on the K7.

My photography interests lie mainly in Indian archeological sites and sculpture and perhaps I will expand the subject to classical dance performances and insects, wildlife and landscape stills of water bodies. In a nutshell, the things that inspire me the most. I live in Bengaluru.

The cameras I have owned to date are the Yashica Electro 35, Canon S5IS and recently the Lumix LX3 which I have rarely used. After some photo practice at Hampi, Belur, Shravanabelagola and Halebidu I have decided I want to take even better pics with a better camera. Of course expensive gear is not a guarantee of better pics, but I believe I can improve and get better returns for the time and money spent traveling to remote places, with a DSLR. Besides I need a new excuse to plan and travel long road trips where the goal and final output feels justified for the cost of petrol and time spent in travel. Serious photography as a hobby is also good answer to that automatic and inquisitive question popped everywhere and every time in India - "Traveling alone? Why?" The unspoken question on their minds being - if you have no company/family why you not enjoying life with girlfriend?!!

Hope to receive some useful advice and tips from the experienced folks here and select my Petax gear amongst other things.

Regards
--Rag00l
