It is a cheap chinese one from ebay, haven't had chance to test infinity focus yet, but not expecting too much.

Got to love some Pentax Ltd on the module though, it is crisper than my K-5 in my opinion. They don't come as close to native m-mount lenses in size unfortunately!

Hello, don't usually post here.

But printing got me interested? What kind of printer are you using?

I would imaging a good landscape photo would look good and benefit from the glow of metallic paper :).

Yeah, there will be a big fat pack on my back already. I do like the travel kit idea. I may get one since I have a package to be sent to me from the states anyway.

This maybe a really kiwi problem. How and what does one carry on a tramp photography-wise?

My current gear is my DSLR (K-5) with a small prime attached (currently a 28mm, used to be a Sigma 10-20mm). This is about all I want to carry. I find that I don't have much energy/time to change lenses on the track. My tramping bag would be about 15kg+ without the photography gears.

The camera currently sits on the top pocket of my tramping bag. This means I miss a lot of shots, because I have to put the bag down, take the camera out, take the shot and then put it back every time! I also haven't found the perfect lens for both landscapes and group/people shots.

I have tried hanging the camera on my neck or in a small bag. Having something hanging and swinging (unprotected) really zaps the energy though.

What do you think? For one, I am considering adding a compact to sit in the pocket or the belt of the tramping bag. I have also heard that there are belt system to carrying a DSLR in. Have anyone tried those?

My most used lens, though I am not very good with it.

Just wondering, if other people's lens at 10mm have less distortion on the corner? This has been corrected in LR3. My copy also seems kind of soft (could have been focused on the wrong thing)?

I was camping by a lake over Christmas holiday and the light during the golden hour was so fantastic. I think this shot of a pebble splash is more simple and places more emphasise on the water and colour on the lake, than say a landscape shot.

How is the MF experience on the current x100?

Can one see where the focus is on the OVF? It isn't a rangefinder mechanism like on a Leica? Turn by wire is also quite awful I am guessing?

Good point about the green hexagon, I might have recomposed as soon as the red square flashes.

I am on 1.03. The photo was shot with the DA* 16-50mm. My other lens is the Sigma 10-20mm, which has a huge DOF. So I guess I can't be sure whether it is lens specific, I may borrow a friend's FA lenses some time and do some tests.

Thanks. I will have a look at the focus screen some time. Hopefully I get to shoot more this weekend and see whether I get better results.

Centre focus point was indeed what I meant.

Merit of the shot aside. Here is an example, the subject may have been more than 10m away . I was trying to focus on the person right in the middle.

I guess I would try and aim for the torso next time.

I have had a few missed focus with my K-5, and it is most probably a user error on my part. I am looking for some tips from more experienced photographers.

A particular problematic scenario is a person/subject standing in front of a tree, anywhere from 1-10m from me. The face doesn't quite fill the frame or even the red autofocus square. I always use centre spot focus and recompose, but the autofocus mostly locks onto the trees.

This is not immediately obvious on the viewfinder or even the lcd. I tend to find out about the ruined image on my computer screen :(. I understand that the trees are a higher contrast subject and that the autofocus sensor covers a larger area than the red spot in the viewfinder.

So what can I do in these kinds of situations?

I can provide a couple of sample shots if the descriptions aren't clear.

The K-5 is my first DSLR, I came from the micro4/3 system. Those cameras have relatively fast contrast-detection and adjustable focus area size. The focus is apparent on the electronic viewfinder/lcd, so I can refocus immediately if it misses. Hence, I am probably spoiled in this area .

Any tips would be much appreciated.

I have got his books, "The Photographer's Eyes" and "The Photographer's Mind". They are easily the best books for someone like me who wants to improve beyond knowing how to set ISO or f-stop on my camera.

I have only begun reading the first book. Don't spread it around, because they are so good :).

I am in Auckland.

I got my K-5 from e-bay before. I suppose I can keep using the current hood as long as it stays on :/..

Hello all, this is my first time posting in this thread!

I am searching for a lens hood for my Da* 16-50mm, any idea where I may be able to obtain one (in nz)? I bought my K-5 and lens up the mountains this week, and unfortunately broke the lens hood in a fall.. (at least the lens/camera were broken).

Thanks.
