Agree. At the bottom of your photo, you should find two SDM pins like on this picture: |

I apologize: I thought that depth of field was affected by the circle of confusion and that the Q's circle of confusion was smaller than an APS-C's one, leading to a bigger DOF at same magnification and same aperture...
I still think that a fact and an opinion must not be confounded. I will try to spend some time to take the same picture with the Q at F/1.8 and with the K-1 at various apertures from F/1.8 to 4 in order to cure my small-DOF pathology ;)

I own a GR, a GRIII and a Q, I hardly use the latter because the image quality is generally outdated (way too much DOF).
I rarely use my smartphone to take pictures, yet it is very convenient to phone.

That is right, the flash can be used in order to freeze your subject. Using a WR 100mm with the on-board flash and a diffuser should be fine.
The HD DFA 100mm WR should be better than the former DFA 100mm WR regarding purple fringing.

When you practice macro, you will never use an on-board flash, at a minimum you will use a tilt-head flash, so shadows will never be a problem, even with a very long lens (e.g. a 180mm).
Of course, you could also use a specialized flash with flexible heads (e.g. kuangRen KX-800, adaptalux, etc.).
Regarding Pentax macro lenses, I am sorry: my macro K-mount lenses are not Pentax ones, I preferred Tamron, Irix, Sigma, Oshiro-Bresser, Laowa-Venus, Mitakon and even Panagor, to Pentax.

Could you post a photo showing the TC contacts?
It would be useful.

My DA* 300mm F/4 SDM motor is broken, as I bought a Pentax F 1.7x adapter I started to use the 300mm with the AF adapter in order to keep a precise focusing. So I now have a resulting 510mm F/6.8.Sharpness of this combo is excellent so I never repaired the 300mm (I may convert its SDM AF to screw AF, in the future) and always use it with the adapter.
I sometimes stare at Tamron 400mm F/4 but never succumbed.

Vivitar 90-180mm flat field |

I owned some zooms in the past and still owns two: a Sigma 70-200/2.8 and a Vivitar Series 1 90-180/4.5 "flat field".
Although the first one is brighter, I never used it for floral pictures while the Vivitar really shines (and reaches 1:2 at 180mm).
Generally speaking, I prefer a lens whose blades are curved (e. g. the Irix 150mm macro) but I took lots of floral photos using the Vivitar. Some are here: Vivitar Series 1 90-180mm F/4.5 flat field | Flickr |

Replacing the focusing screen is generally very helpful (I did it for my K100D and my K-7 but still hesitate for my K-3).
Another solution is a magnifier eyecup. I own a Refconverter A, it is a very good investment. |

My own Laowa 100mm macro looks exactly like yours, it fits on my different cameras (K-1, K-3, K-7) but I do not own a KP so I never tried this combination.

If you are on a budget, a 50mm F/1.8 and a strobist combo (manual adjustable flash + umbrella) could fit the bill.
I used to buy old flashes (Vivitar 283 or Vivitar 285) and to modify them in order to add a potentiometer and an external 6V battery (photos here: strobist stuff | Flickr). Now you can find affordable chinese adjustable flashes without being obliged to modify old stuff.

Manual focusing needs to be practiced but is always useful.
However, a wide angle lens like the Rokinon 16mm, even at F/2, gives a lot of DOF so, most of time, you will successfully use hyperfocal rules.
At very small distances, focusing will remain difficult but you can use some tricks like live-view or viewfinder attachments. I own a Pentax Refconverter A, it is an angle viewfinder which can be switched between 1x and 2x magnification, it is sometimes very useful for close-up photos.

I see this thread as a deliberate controversy (the question is aimed to people who have seen the upside of downsize) but I will take a moment to give my point of view.
If you want to own a single DSLR, you can of course choose a K-3/K-3II/K-3III, it is an excellent choice.
I own both a K-1 and a K-3 and never question my double choice, because I choose the DSLR I will use according to what I will photograph.
The maximum print size is not a concern, most of the time, but if you want to print a A1 poster a K-1 will do a better job than a K-3/K-3II/K-3III. The K-1 shows less noise at 3200 ISO than the K-3/K-3II/K-3III at 1600 ISO, it is another topic to keep in mind when there is few light. I also choose the K-1 for super-wide angle shots, because I own a FF 12mm and no APS-C super-wide angle lens.
In other situations, I will prefer the K-3/K-3II/K-3III, mostly because it is lighter, smaller, and because 24MP files are enough for most of my pictures.

Working distance varies according to the global focal length. A close-up (e.g. a DCR-150 or a DCR-250) reduces the focal length, hence it reduces the working distance. Extension tubes, for a same magnification, lead to a higher working distance than a close-up.
Both close-up lenses and extension tubes are very useful when you do not have an adequate macro lens, but this is not the main subject of this thread.

I own both of these lenses. The Tamron is the best for sharpness, the Irix for bokeh and working distance.
Overall, I prefer the Irix.
Since I bought a Laowa 100mm 2:1 lens, I never used the Tamron and may sell it but will never sell the Irix.

I have been using the Pentax cleaning kit since 2006 or 2007, I cannot imagine another way to clean my cameras sensors.

Very nice portrait, the only potential problem I see is the background at the top right.
There are some lovely models in Lyon, according to your portfolio.

Batteries are inexpensive, I own both no-name and Pentax ones, all are excellent.
I own a K-3 and a K-1, the K-3 still being my favourite camera because it is smaller and lighter, and I do not aim to replace it untill it becomes non-repairable.

Il est difficile de comparer des pommes et des oranges...
You are comparing a 35mm and a 50mm, the first being a M42 mount fully manual lens, the second being an autofocus Pentax-mount lens.
I would choose the Pentax lens for several reasons : the DA 50mm is automatic, autofocus, and in Pentax mount (and I already own a FA 35mm F/2 which is an excellent lens). Overall, the DA 50mm is a very good lens. The MIR's sharpness is probably better but sharpness is not the only parameter to consider.

Same for me. I sold all of my adaptall lenses but I keep one PKA adapter "in case of", I would not sell it because this one works fine (which is not the cas for all of them).
I owned two Tamron adaptall 90mmmacro lenses (52B and 72B), they were great, I sold them when I bought newer macro lenses.

Laowa 12mm F/2.8 Zero-D when I need extra-wide-angle photos
Pentax smc A 20mm f2.8 for wide-angle photos
Sigma 24mm F/1.8 EX DG ASPHERIC MACRO for not-so-wide-angle photos (I enjoy its rendition)
For special purpose, I use other lenses (e.g. for shallow or huge depth of field, I can use a tilted Mir-26B 45mm F/3.5 or a tilted Rodagon 80mm F/4), any lens may be used in certain cases.
