I own a lot of black pentax, but I've never come across one with such glossy paint work. Will be sending this S3 away for a CLA soon. I believe the shutter curtains might need replacing. |

RIP. Meyer-Optik Gorlitz Domiplan 50 2.8
I spent yesterday afternoon taking you apart again because your aperture control broke. How thoughtful I am proving you with care and attention, so you may exist not as a relict of a forgotten time, but continue to be, to experience, to live and be loved! My dear little tessar.
Reinstalling the focus control with clean clear grease I note there is a little movement in the entire front ensemble. Investigating I find some little plastic lugs where the tip of my screw driver enters with ease, Taking the tension of the thread, nothing. You still stay together as one need plastic unit from 1965. "But I only want to help" I declare out-loud some hours later no closer to your secrets.
With frustration kicking in, the amount of play you have is enough to completely disengage the aperture control. I see now why you failed. Your plastic threads have worn, if you were made with metal shoes like your bigger brothers you would have survived,
A cookie triplet is no more. scratch one against the cosmos, for all the things you have seen are now hidden in the secretes of your past. my poor little tessar.
The last photo you ever took, checking to ensure the elements were clear. Sniff...
They were

That's a nice shot as well, I love how CineStill 50 handles blues and has pastel tones in its colours. Very sharp to boot!
I think I posted this shot before, but it's my favourite one with this film so far. I used my Super A and A50/1.7:

Super A, A50/2, Fuji Superia 200. Fairly sure this was at f2.8.
It seems from reviews that the f2 version of the 50mm A lens has a greater degree of sample variation than the others, but mine is excellent and for the £5 it cost me I definitely have no complaints. |

Neat shot:)...strange but fantastic bokeh! :D
Thank you 1952:).....I may be a little overly excited, it is a hell of a camera ...can't wait to get to know it.:)
Here are a few that are just mostly test shots. All handheld shot through my office windows in the crop mode. Crop mode is easy to access and acts like my APS -C cameras.
No real experience so far, but I can already note a few things that impress me.
In crop mode the crop area is in a box...and when focus is achieved the box frame goes red and beeps. This makes it easy and the focus even on my big 'ol slow Bigma is fast and accurate....the only time I have ever seen the Bigma near this fast was on a friends Nikon D800...and it was not faster than this K1.:):) For once Pentax is not joking about fast and accurate AF...we've heard it for years....but in the K1 it is reality! :)Amazing!:):)
The ISO is also amazing.....shots I would not even attempt with the K5 series are just a cakewalk...fast focus in low light and even 12,800 is very usable.
Colors are excellent, and the handling is superb.....body build second to none. It may take me a while to learn all the menus and button/dials, but I will.
ISO 12,800 f8 1/250 @330mm in crop mode. The high ISO in the dim light gave me speed! _IMG0053-800K1 by James Williams, on Flickr
ISO 6400 f8 1/160 @500mm crop mode. _IMG0056-800K1 by James Williams, on Flickr
ISO 6400 f8 1/160 @ 450mm crop mode _IMG0057-800K1 by James Williams, on Flickr
ISO 2500 f6.3 1/80 ( The SR is fantastic!) @ 500mm crop mode _IMG0066-800K1 by James Williams, on Flickr
ISO 1600 1/80 f7.1 @ 500mm crop mode _IMG0106-800K1 by James Williams, on Flickr
Nothing spectacular here, just some test shots for AF and ISO, but I am very impressed. You don't struggle with this camera, you just shoot! The AF is wonderful and so is the SR and high ISO shooting. It's a game changer of a camera, giving new opportunities for shots once missed.
Can't wait to learn "its ways" and all the neat features available. Pentax hit this one out of the park!:D
Best Regards!:)

Thanks, JosQ. Nice photos and a fine lens. It seems they're rather scarce. I did read some other comments by owners and they were as appreciative of it as you are.
I took some photos of the river this evening with the auto-Tak 55mm f2 lens. F9 at infinity, on a tripod, two second timer, and a CPL filter to try to emphasize the brightness of the water.

Spring is finally kicking in and this little fella keeps turning up on my balcony. I've started feeding him crackers because he's too cute to ignore.
K-7 with Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO (Pre-DG version) 300mm f5.6 ISO800. This lens is much sharper at f8 but I had to be quick on the draw! |

Lots of fine bokeh shots in this thread.....I see others with lovely bokeh in other Forum threads that don't even know of this thread. When you see them, invite them to post here! :D The more the better! Help dilute the doves and squirrels!
