What I like the most about preset lenses is that there are no set stops. I decide manually with visual confirmation the exact amount of light, that I want to get in the photo.

Here is one of my daughter Hedvig taken with my K7 at 1:125s, ISO800 and CZJ 2.8/50 T (12 blades aluminum early fifties version)

Presets of the WA type are sparse (it seems like), besides the Hanimex 28mm f3 Wide Angle Preset, that I have found, there is the Pentacon 3.5/30 (a new version of the Meyer Görlitz Lydith lens) to choose from.
I just got myself one of these (for about 50US), so that I can shoot in the "normal" range on my K7 with a preset lens. I find that it is a quite impressive lens with beautiful, saturated colors, very good contrast, no CA and good sharpness (it´s not a razor).

Here a some walk-around test shots from the other day:

Thank´s for sharing the manual and in nice crisp scans too (the butkus version on the net is terrible).
I´ve made a binder of it:

Hi Yuri, that was a very personal reaction to my critique and I think that there is a misunderstanding here? I didn´t mean that I feel sorry for the model as a person, but rather, the persona that she acts. Is that right? Anyway, I guess your straight answer to my original question is: Yes. And my reaction to that is: OK, well done. Regards Jakob

For double effect in UV treatment, put a sheet of aluminium foil at the back end of the lens, so the sun rays reflect back through it.

This was taken in the former industrial harbor of Reykjavik, Iceland. New media companies have settled and new characters with cellphones and cameras walk the piers in the mornings, when the sun is slowly burning the fog away.

Frosted_Roses_02_311211

These flowers were laid for a little baby boy who died from cradle death at only three month of age this summer. The death was such a blow to the family that it resolved in one of the worst family tragedies I have ever heard of. The couple split up and a few weeks ago the man torched himself, the woman and her father, when they came to pick up her stuff in their flat, trapping them all in there and setting off a fuel explosion. An older child, a girl at three years of age was left alive and now lives with her grandmother.

Here is a portrait I took one late evening around 10-11 o´clock in summer bright Reykjavik. I shot it hand held and braced, with the mirror locked up, wide open and, as I recall it, at 1/30sec. So, Im happy it came out this good :) This is a downsized copy of a 25mp 1200dpi Epson V750 scanned tiff file using Silverlight 6.6 ai set at manual USM and auto correction of levels and curves, with a slight Photoshop color adjustment afterwards. :)

Here is an article adressing the problem with the noise in the shadows in scanned images:

»Per channel scan performance and noise
One aspect I didn't explore in the first public release of this test is the per-channel scan performance. Now with the new scans available of the overhauled Imacon 848, I did take an even closer look at the scans and discovered something new I hadn't be aware of before. The images below are crops of the full 8000 ppi resolution scans. No sharpening has been applied. Each series of 4 pictures per film type represent a crop of the original scans, and separated by color channel (Red, Green, Blue)

RGB/RED/GREEN/BLUE channels
Especially noteworthy is the unexpected bad scan result in the blue channel of this scan, that is also visible in the Kodak Portra 160 VC scan series below, but not in the Fuji Velvia scan. The blue channel, disregarding the overal darker appearance (caused by the simple fact that we are looking a crop of skin tone, and skin does not have much "blue", hence low values in the blue channel which are rendered dark by Photoshop), clearly has a much more "grainy" and "patchy" look than the other two color channels.«

Read on..
Technique - Kodak Ektar 100 test - Per channel scan performance and noise
