Ain't slander if it's true. Well, local laws may vary. Still, it sucks that Google'll dob you in now...

But he's infamously notorious for dodgy deals, from what I hear. I'm sure if it goes to court, there'll be legions of burnt buyers who'll gladly step up to testify...

If ye cannae take a joke...

How many Pentax Forum members does it take to change a light bulb?

- Seven to say that they also have a problem changing light bulbs.

- Twelve to say that they don't like the direction that Pentax's lightbulb division is going and are threatening to change to another brand of bulb.

- Twenty to say that if you don't like Pentax light bulb, then move to something else. The light bulb you use has nothing to do with anything. They're all the same. They all put out light.

- The same above twenty people to later state, without any irony, they love their one particular light bulb model from one brand, as it's sharp, clear, and bright, and everything looks even better when it's under light from that bulb.

- Another twenty to say that they used to be with another lightbulb brand and changed to Pentax brand bulbs.

- About a hundred people to say they got banned from the dpreview.com forums for asking or talking about a similar thing.

- Two people to ask what's the difference betwee the 43-watt bulbs and the 40-watt bulbs.

- Fifteen people to say that you should get one of the older bulbs Pentax no longer make - those bulbs are just as good, if not better, than the new ones.

- Ten to complain that those old bulbs are way overpriced on eBay and Craigslist.

- Eight to ask how they get those older bulbs running on the newer sockets.

- Another eight wondering if you can get the newer bulbs to run on older sockets, even if the cone of light put out is smaller than it needs to be.

- Fifty to say they want full frame sockets and bulbs, even the new ones.

- One to say "The new ones are full frame! The size of the frame is always the 'full frame' so a 24x16 is already full frame! It's a full APS-C frame!" and try to act smug because it supposedly solves the above poster's gripe, wrapping it up in a nice, neat parcel of circular reasoning.

- One to say to the above that's not what they mean - the term "full frame" has a popular definition meaning "the same area as a frame of 35mm film - 36x24mm."

- Fifty to vehemently disagree the above, saying that the current ones are perfectly good, as for a given bulb, the light goes 1.5 times farther, and fail to comprehend why you'd want a bulb and socket setups that cover more area for a given bulb wattage.

- Forty-seven to say that Pentax should make a smaller, rangefinder light bulb and socket system.

- Forty-seven to say they don't see the point of a smaller, rangefinder system.

- Three two say that the best lightbulbs aren't the bayonet mounts, but the screw-in ones - even if they start to give off yellow light as they age.

- Four to wonder if all Pentax's new lightbulbs are made by Tokina, and four to tell those people there's no reason or evidence that they are.

- Three people to say they know what new lightbulbs Pentax will be bringing out, but they're under an NDA. One of those will post photos of the new bulbs, then have to take them down and apologise profusely. One will have access to the new bulbs before they go on the market, and one will claim she knows people who work at Pentax's lightbulb division - one person will later come along and say that the other person is using her name and who the hell does that other person think she is?

- One to ask the same question about changing bulbs, but to post it in the wrong forum.

- Three to say they're selling the exact same bulb the original poster is looking for in the marketplace, but only one of those will ship outside CONUS.

- A few Aussies to get ropeable at the price of bulbs in America.

- Sixty-four to say that Pentax needs to market their lightbulbs better.

- Three to pay out the users of "old" lighting technology that uses chemical reactions instead of electronics to illuminate stuff.

- One smug bastard to say that he only paid $25 for his 50mm f1.2 bulb, at a pawnshop.

That Lytro writeup of their sensors almost seems like they're taking the piss out of their audience - "You want this camera because, let's face it, you're too much of an to grasp basic photographic principals, but you're enough of an arsehole to play this off as being some sort of inherent trait of artists."

Daylight savings in Queensland debate

What does Queensland know about nightlife?

Brisbane is dead after 8:30pm. Good luck getting a decent feed after 8 - junk food's your only option.

God, it's a nice place, but, in the end, Queensland's still run by bumpkins.

Queensland's underwater (ah, the Sydney Harbour - the Standard Australian Unit for measuring large amounts of water,) but we've got the Army the in and handling it; it's not gonna end up like New Orleans.

I think we should return to the forum's natural font type and colour! Your posts look obnoxious and it's bad forum manners.

Who the hell does the whole email-inbox-style forum in 2010? Not to mention DRP's poor use of real estate - great, it's easy to read on a smartphone. You're cutting edge, DPR. I'm sure the 99% of readers using full-size computers are grateful.

My idea is not to block DPR links. That's dropping down to their level.

My idea is to have a small message automatically added at the end of every DPR link: "Please note that DPR has seen fit to block all links to PentaxForums.com in their forums. We're not that petty and spiteful."

Jim the builder has been arrested for murder after the police find a body buried in his backyard.

The detective leans over the table in the interrogation room and says, "All right, Jim, you bastard - how many did you kill?"

Jim replies, "17."

The police go back and dig up his backyard some more, and find a total of 25 bodies.

"You sick bastard," says the detective, "You said you only killed 17, but we found 25 corpses!"

"Aw, c'mon," says Jim, "I'm a builder. It was only an estimate."

That's why I love this forum. The rumours take flight like a flock of pigeons before a hyped-up toddler in the park.

Let's say Pentax releases a promotional beer mug, as marketing swag:

Original Poster: "Hey, anyone seen this new beer mug Pentax are giving out at Photokina?"

"What? Beer Mug? Why would they do that?"

"OMG! 'Asahi' is the name of one of Japan's biggest breweries! Pentax used to be Asahi Optical Company! COINCIDENCE?!?!"

"Great. Hoya's selling Pentax to Asahi."

OP: "I don't think that's wh-"

"Pentax is going into the beer business?! Oh, noes!"

OP: "Look, it doesn't mean anyth-"

"Cool! I hope they release a pilsener!"

"Yay! A Pentax Pils!"

OP: "Look, you're all reading too-"

"I hate pilseners. They'd better do a lager."

"I want an ale. If they don't, I'm going to sell all my Pentax gear and move to a camera company that makes an ale."

"OMG, lagers suck! And besides - I heard from my fourth cousin's second best friend's ex-girlfriend's ex-fiancé ex-husband's roommate's dog walker's dental hygienist's uncle's former business partner who met a former Canadian wheat farmer's son at a bar in Munich that a subsidiary of a company who had previously done business with a subsidiary of Hoya had bought fifty tons of wheat from Saskatchewan."

"Ooo - a wheat beer! They're going to make a wheat beer!"

"Cool. I love Hoegaarden."

"You idiot. They were in Munich - it's going to be a German-style weissbier. Hoegaarden's Belgian."

OP: "I-"

"Anyone know of any pretzel or beernut accessories that are going to be released? Chips? Kebabs?"

"This is bullshit. Pentax should've gone to Suntory - huge glasses suck, and Pentax is famous for smaller glass. A whiskey tumbler or shot glass is more in line with the Pentax philosophy and is what people want!"

OP: *weeps*

mac or windows

One of the downsides of using a Mac is that you get this horrible disease where you start getting the urge to pass of subjective experience as hard facts. See above.

See? See what RML's just said? Interfaces have to be learned. 'Zackly. You still have to figure out the Mac interface, which is divided between the top and bottom of the screen, unlike Windows, where it's grouped in one place - the bottom. Mac focuses more on minimalism and multitasking. It's a pain in the arse to get most apps to maximise, and stay in focus. Despite those big IPS panels, a lot of screen real estate is wasted. If you like applications like Photoshop to be split into half-a-dozen separate Windows, maybe a Mac is for you. The top bar of the Mac interface, I find, is very confusing, often lagging a bit behind, and is shared between different apps (which will, of course, all be on-screen, but not necessarily in focus. Why? Aesthetic concessions!)

Of course, I'll get a bunch of angry flamebacks about this, because those repliers have all used Macs for years and never had a problem with the interface. Go nuts, I say.

That's because nothing was wrong! Nothing is ever wrong! Ein Volk! Ein Reich! Ein Jobs! You thought BSODs were bad; wait until you get the Endless Rainbow Wheel of Uncertainty. That's the Apple equivalent. Except they don't have the courtesy to give you an error code with which to hunt down and fix the problem. You're meant to drag the Apple into a Fully Racially Pure- sorry, Apple Certified store, and have them fix whatever. That's pretty much how Apple expects you to deal with problems. The reason for the excellent after-sales service is that because Apple think their customers are idiots.

Windows crashes. It bitches, it moans. It

Code:

STOP: 0x0000012F

Yes. But it gives feedback. It knows it's got flaws. Apple is the most conceited and vain OS around.

Oh, yes, you can run Windows on Macs. It's a testament to the versatility of Windows. (It's also a testament to the fact that a Mac is pretty much now just PC components.)

Manufacturing the hardware your OS runs on? Yeah, that's hard. Real hard.

Pentax to join the micro4/3 standard?
Posted By lithos
Replies: 320

Four-Thirds/Micro 4/3 seemed like hot shit back when it was introduced, when sensor fabrication was a lot more expensive than it was.

Now, it's just a frivolous indulgence, and the M4/3 cameras seem to combine the worst parts of DSLRs and point-and-shoots. Not to mention the problems with getting decent wide-angle lenses.

Hell, even the aspect ratio's outdated, since the 4:3 ratio (hence the name) which was specifically touted as "perfectly fitting computer monitors" has pretty much dropped off the face of the earth in favour of 16:9 and 16:10 widescreen.
