How is the light inside Udvar-Hazy? I don't have any wide angles with a large aperture. For film it would either be the Super-Tak 20/4.5 or Sears 28/2.8 and digital would be the kit 18-55.

I'm traveling solo so I figure it wouldn't be too bad to avoid having to find parking and traffic. I will probably drive if I needed to go anywhere at night. Do you know if the traffic gets better after a certain time?
That's what I'm afraid of since I don't want to miss anything. I was originally going to go on at the Shenandoah entrance, but now that I think about it, that might be too much. Going on in Boone sounds like a good idea.
I'll be in the Elkmont area. I think it is the one you're thinking of.

It will be the parts of NC that the BRP goes through, including Asheville and Cherokee before going into TN.

I will be setting up camp in Elkmont and plan on visiting Cades Cove and the surrounding areas. Mostly interested in sightseeing.
I'm actually not very outdoorsy so I won't be doing anything crazy. This will be my first time camping since I was 11/12, and I will be on my own this time.

Hi all!
I'm going on vacation in mid-October. I'll be taking a road trip from Florida up to Washington, D.C. and then down to camp in the Smoky Mountains on the Tennessee side via the Blue Ridge Parkway for part of the trip. This will be my first time going to those areas.
Right now I'm trying to decide which cameras and lenses to bring with me. While in D.C. I will be staying in Virginia because hotels are way out of my price range so I plan on taking the Metro rail to get in and out of the city for most of the time I'm there. So I'm trying to bring all I need but still keep it light enough to carry all day. Mainly seeing the monuments, Arlington cemetery and visiting a few of the Smithsonian museums. If anyone has suggestions for things to do, neighborhoods to visit, restaurants to eat at, or tips on using the Metro rail and bus, I would be happy to hear those too.
I'm sure I will be bringing a Yashica 635/Rolleiflex Tessar 3.5 and my Pentax K-x with the 18-55 and 55-300 (mostly for the second leg of the trip) kit lenses. I also want to bring two 35mm cameras. One for color and one for B&W. I know this sounds excessive, but I really don't know what to expect since I've never made a trip like this before.

Minolta Maxxum 5

Voightlander Vitoret (haven't tested it yet so it would be a little risky)

The newer Epson scanners really do give great pics straight from the scanner.

These are from February, taken the same time as the other car photos. Just finally got through the roll and got it developed. Took three weeks just for the processing.
On a side note, Walmart has dramatically increased their 120 send out prices. A few months ago it was under $2 to develop and get (crappy) 4x4 prints. Today it was $11.52 / roll. I guess I will either be finding somewhere else or shoot less medium format.

I have one of those. The shutter quirk worked to my advantage because I thought it was broken and the antique store owner sold it for $20 instead of the $40 he was asking for it.
I unscrewed the front element and cleaned the inner one and must have screwed it on wrong and messed up the focus. All the pictures I took with on my test roll was out of focus. And it tore up the sprockets when I was winding the film back into the canister. Currently mine is just sitting there looking pretty until I can find money and someone to fix it.

Yes, the Rolleiflex has the Zeiss Tessar and the Yashica has the Yashinon version of it. They're pretty flare prone in my experience, but take great pictures when there isn't direct light pointed at the camera.

I am using an Epson Perfection V550. I don't currently have a photo editing program on my computer so all of those were not retouched, which speaks for the scanner and the software it comes with.

My family can't figure out what to get me for my birthdays/Christmas anymore, so they usually hand me money and let me get what I want. This year I decided to spend some of the money on a Rolleiflex. This little guy arrived yesterday. If I didn't know what year it was made, I would not have guessed it was a 60 year old camera. The film spool in it is a metal Kodak one, and from the info I found, they stopped using metal spools since at least the 70s. I'm guessing it was stored in its case for a long time.

Here it is next to my Yashica 635. I'm going to have to get used to the ergonomics of the Rolleiflex, since the film advance and focus knobs are all on one side on the Yashica. The attention to detail in the Rollei makes it feel a little more substantial than the Yashica, but that's not to say the Yashica isn't a competent camera.

Got a second Spotty! The SP on the left. It it in really good shape. I was expecting a beater for the price the seller was asking for. Have to find a battery to see if the meter works.

The little nub clears the Spotmatic, but it definitely interferes with mounting on a K-mount body with an adapter. Might keep a look out for another cheap body to mount this lens on since the Spotty is my only m42 mount camera.

Found a Fujinon 50mm/f1.4 at a thrift shop. Good condition except the blades were a little stick when i first got it. Only works on my Spotty since it can't be switched to manual. Otherwise it's wide open on anything with an adapter. Hope it's as good as the Super-Tak 50/1.4 Also had two Tamron Adaptall with m42 mount adapters at the same thrift shop. Contemplating whether I want to go back for one of them.

Found these three in an antique store for a reasonable price . They have some defects though. The two f1.4 lenses have a small amount of fungus and the 20mm seems to have specks of residue on the outside of the front element. The price was right and I have been after a f1.4 for a while.

If I were carrying my Spotmatic and I were mugged, I could probably beat the mugger up with the camera and it would still function fine. Not so sure about modern cameras.
And there's a gratifying feeling that I get when using a camera that's nearly twice my age. I don't even really get that with my DSLR.

Has anyone tried the eBay film processing services before? I have 8 rolls of exposed film and it would be the most cost effective to get them developed. They're not anything important. Adding in postage and the cost to develop each roll of film makes traditional labs cost prohibitive right now.
