Pentax K-3 III: can anyone check how bad autofocus fluttering/wobbling in movie mode?

Can anyone check how bad autofocus fluttering/wobbling in movie mode ?

What I mean is shown in this video :

You Tube

Panasonic Lumix DC-S5 Depth-from-Defocus (DFD) demonstration
Even newer Panasonic S5 is prone to autofocus fluttering/wobbling in movie mode.
Canon cameras with Dual Pixel Autofocus, e.g. Canon 6D Mark II, do not have such problems at all.
So, my question is autofocus of Pentax K-3 Mark III in movie mode is more like Panasonic S5 or Canon 6D Mark II ?
I do not think it depends on the used lens, but if it is for some reason the case for Pentax K-3 Mark III then lenses I would use are :
- SMC Pentax-DA* 16-50mm F2.8 ED AL [IF] SDM
- SMC Pentax-DA* 50-135mm F2.8 ED [IF] SDM
- Pentax 21mm f/3.2 Limited SMC P-DA

The most annoying thing about Pentax is that they keep ignoring video mode. Codecs, AF, etc.

HELP : K-5ii shake reduction is not active in video / movie mode

Thanks a lot you were absolutely right.
I had Drive Mode Remote Control set to on for video mode.
It is very strange as I cannot recall when and what's more important, why I've done it.
Anyway, now my K-5ii is back to normal.
It is a wonderful camera and its sensor is just phenomenal.

---------- Post added 10-19-16 at 08:12 AM ----------

The catch is that Drive Mode Remote Control is set for stills and video independently.

HELP : K-5ii shake reduction is not active in video / movie mode

Hi everyone.
It looks like my trustful Pentax K-5ii lost shake reduction in video / movie mode.
It works perfectly fine in stills modes. I tried it with 55-300mm lens at 300mm and SR does work.
But when I switch to video / movie mode, the shake reduction icon is greyed out irrespectively to the camera settings.
I tried other lenses just in case. No luck.
I also shot videos at 300mm with SR on and off (in the menu) and I could not see any difference.
Please see pictures below.

Can anyone please let me know if your Pentax K5ii cameras behave the same way, i.e. when SR for video mode has been actived in the menu, does it still have a greyed out icon on the LCD ?
If the icon on the LCD should be green, does it mean that my Pentax K-5ii lost SR in video mode ?
If so, it is a huge grief for me as I do not shoot videos with it too often but when I do it means that I really want it.
And I like my K-5ii for its fenomenal dynamic range. And Limited primes as well.
Thank you.

PS firmware version : 1.06.

I got a new one a few weeks ago from CR Kennedy for AU$470 as a price match to US prices.
This one is still a good price for that lens.
I've put my like on your post.

Pentax k-3 for video - is it good ? ( 5 questions )

Thanks for enlightening me. I did not about it.
So, jello effect on k-3 will be closer to the one I saw on K-01 rather than K-5.
It is a bit disappointing. Thanks anyway.

Thanks for your replies.
Now I am clear on all questions except the first one about a jello effect.
First of all, when I am talking about a jello effect I mean SR is on. Because when it is off there is no jello effect at all (due to fundamental principles of jello effect).
Second, all cameras (Pentax K-5 ii, Pentax K-01 and Pentax K-3) have the same type of image stabilization - sensor shift.
But I can clearly see that video shot with my Pentax K-5 (with SR on) has almost no jello effect, and the one shot with Pentax K-01 (with SR on) has a very bad jello effect.
I want to shoot video with SR on.
So, my question was is video shot with a Pentax K-3 has a jello effect similar to Pentax K-01 which is really bad or is it closer to Pentax K-5 ii which is quite negligable.
Thanks.

Hi All. I have a Pentax K-5 ii camera and I am absolutely happy with my camera when it comes to stills.
It is an absolutely wonderful camera with an exceptional sensor.
Unfortunately, I cannot say the same thing about its video.
I know the K-5 model is quite old and it may explain why it is limited when it comes to video.
I've purchased a Pentax K-01. It is a good camera especially for the price but it is almost useless for video as it has a very bad jello effect.
I do not mind having it as a second camera but I cannot use it for video (blame my shaky hands).
Now, I am thinking about purchasing Pentax k-3 camera to take advantage of my set of Pentax lenses, which I really like.
But before I got a Pentax K-3 camera a few questions about Pentax K-3 video capabilities :
1. Jello effect - is it as bad as on a Pentax K-01 or not and similar to the one on a Pentax k-5 camera (or even less visible than that) ?
2. Does K-3 have a reautofocus during video shooting (on Pentax k-01 it can be done via pressing AF/AE-L button (with buttons customised as per my settings)).
3. Movie mode exposure settings / manual controls in movie mode (like in Pentax K-01 : : Menu > Movie 1 > Exposure Setting : P Av M).
4. Does K-3 have manual adjustment of white balance using a white sheet of paper (esp. important for movie mode) (like in Pentax K-01 : WB button on the four-way controller > Manual White Balance (right most icon) > point at a white sheet of paper > press the shutter release button).
5. Does K-3 have focus peaking in movie mode while shooting video.
First three questions are very important for me.
I would appreciate who DOES have a Pentax K-3 camera in their hands could answer my questions (after trying / checking it on the camera).
Thank you.

Hi All. Thanks for helping me.
Finally I got this set
Yongnuo RF 602 2 4GHz Wireless Remote Flash Trigger 3 Receivers 1pcs Transmitter | eBay
Yongnuo RF-602 2.4GHz Wireless Remote Flash Trigger 3 Receivers 1pcs Transmitter
it is a better quality set than the one I posted before and the one I posted before was not available anyway.
It is a bit dearer for AU $67.99 but with 20% discount code which was available a few weeks ago it was brough down to $54.40 which is not much dearer than the one in my first post.
I tried it a few days ago and it works perfect for all possible combinations of Canon and Pentax (Metz) flash units and cameras.

Thanks. Good point.

It's on my list as well. I found a set of two stands with umbrellas for $38.
They are not a pro quality but good enough for random shooting.
But first I need to try how things work woth what I have right now.

PS nice shots BTW

If so, it does not look like there is an on/off switch on the trigger.

I did and it looks like it is a wonderful thing to have but
- it is quite costly : at least $70 a piece and I will need 4 of them (or at least 3).
- the biggest advantage of having it is a TTL mode. But I have a Pentax camera with Canon flash units so it is a mixture of pTTL and eTTL. I do not think that it is going to work too well. As per the specs it has a "Learning Mode for Analog TTL". I haven't dug deep and probbaly it may work well for my configuration but I do not really need TTL functionality for extra $200.

Thanks for response.

Unfortunately as I said in my post neither Canon 430EX II nor Canon 90EX have optical slave mode (no transmission) ("dumb" optical slave mode). :(
So, there is no way to fire them without extra triggers / sensors, etc.

Hi All,
I have the following equipment :
Pentax K-5 II
Metz Mecablitz 50 AF-1 for Pentax flash unit
Canon Speedlite 430EX II flash unit
Canon Speedlite 90EX flash unit (no power control but hopefully can be used as hair light or background light)
two flash mounted diffusers, DIY snoots (ex stubby holders)
two tripods (one flimsy - still good enough for a flash unit, and a proper one).

I am really keen to try three point lighting, etc.
Can you please advise me on what else I need to get it working.
Pentax K-5 II and Metz 50 AF-1 work perfectly with both optical slave mode (no transmission) and wireless (optical transmission).
Unfortunately neither Canon 430EX II nor Canon 90EX do not have optical slave mode (no transmission) ("dumb" optical slave mode). :(
And as they are eTTL they cannot be used in wireless (optical transmission) mode either. :(
All I want to do is to make it work, so I do not want to spend a lot. Just bare minimum.
What do you think about this
Wireless Radio Slave Remote Flash Transceiver Trigger 3 Receiver 4 Channels | eBay
AU $28.59

The only issue I can see with this kit is that it won't sync faster than 1/125.

Or, do you think I should invest a bit more and get better/proper radio triggers ?
If so, which ones would you recommend ?

Thank you

Good shot. I would apply a bit of sharpening to the bird's image in PS and boost colors a bit.
Not because of my liking but to make it more attractive to the general public.
imho.
