JF: can you post the table with more resolution? I tried to blow it up in PS and I can't read the small letters.
To stop action in a sunny day, we used this formula when I was in school: F16-1/250. The more light, the faster you can shoot (1/500, etc) Also, dont forget that flash also freezes movement.

Yeah it was lit, for ex. I focus on a person, and then I re-compose the shot (rule of thirds or whatever) let's say I'm shooting f5.6 to blur the background a bit. When I recompose (always keeping the shutter halfway down) the camera tried to re-focus into whatever is in the background. I have it in AF.S in the menu, and I shoot manually (f stop and shutter speed) Is like the camera doesn't lock the focus when I press the shutter halfway down.
Thanks
Gus
p/s: I found a solution in this web blog OK1000 Pentax Blog: Pentax DSLR Auto Focus Tips but still, I think the camera should lock the focus when I achieve and I'm recomposing the shot... :-?

I was messing with the AF today, and for some reason, when I get my subject in focus, keeping the shutter half way pressed, if I re-compose the shot, the AF will try to focus again (like it is set on AF.C instead of AF.S which is the setting currently in the camera menu) What could I be doing wrong, or is the camera, or a feature?
Thanks in advance

Well, on close subjects, I get a fairly sharp picture, but if I focus on infinity, closer objects are 'sharp' but the distant objects are a bit soft (IMO) I'd like to try the Pentax 16-50 or the Sigma and compare the results.

Are you using the 18-55mm lens kit? That's what I have, and my pictures are not 'that' sharp neither. I'm pretty sure is my lens, but I have nothing to compare with.

So far, my favorite sunset.
I cough this little guys eating a pine needle. Difficult shot, I was in tippy toes, trying to get a good focus at 55mm, I wish I had a zoom lens (when I tried to remove the pine needle in the middle, they fell off the tree)
This dog will not stand still. Shot it at a 55mm/5.6, and my second wish, a fast lens!! :)
C&C welcomed

Pond by my house.
Sunset (I wish I had a zoom lens!!)
Both were shot RAW, bumped the saturation with Pentax Photolab, dodging, burning, and cropping with PS 7.

Thanks again! I really like that lake. I stopped by this morning, and the lighting was great, but I was running late, and I had no time to take some pictures.

I wish I could have gotten closer!
Lake by my house.
Taken with *istDL, 18-55mm, manual focus, RAW, and post-processed with PS.

Yeah, I knew about the Single or Continuous focus. Thanks. What you say about the kneeling soldier I think is irrelevant.

Took my little DL to my monthly FTX. It performed very well (for what I paid for it) I do need some filters (UV and neutral density) The light was horrible for most of the day. The AWB sucks, and I'll never use it again. After sundown I had to bump the ISO to 3200. The build-in flash works ok to use as fill-flash. The AF is sooooo slow. I had the shutter pressed all the way down and it will not take the picture. Overall, I'm happy, way better than P&S.

The light looks much better, but the focus seems a bit soft. All you need is a zoom lens and get some close ups, that'd be great.

great shot! I'd like to see it with a bit more side lighting (sunrise or sunset) That'll really bring out the details in the wreck.

Great shots, I really like the warm lighting, and the softness of the petals emphazises the effect.
