The Red-earth highland is a photogenic place at Dongchuan, Yunnan, China. The old man and his friend were lit by the sunlight that shone and disappeared instantly because of the fast moving clouds on the highland.

Thanks, Rob. I didn't use an ND filter, but used the gradual ND filter tool in Lightroom for this purpose.

Sometimes patience pays back, I went to this scenic spot with my wife and son during holidays, and so had enough time to wait until the the moment when the light shone through the clouds and on the best part of the field.
This disipline applies especially to birding; I went to a pond where several kingfishers come regularly and perch on three or four fixed branches, I just focused on one of them and pressed the shutter (set at high speed with a remote cable control) for continuous shots of about 10 seconds as soon as I saw the kingfisher flew to the branch, wishing to capture one or two in flight. I was there for about 7 hours, but captured only 3 or 4 "acceptable" shots. I wish such a 7-hour waiting wouldn't drive you crazy.:)

Sheyang in Jiangsu province has a natural reserve for red-crowned cranes (Grus japonensis). It was cloudy and I shot them with the old kit zoom DA L55-300 on K-5 IIs, I thought it would be better to process them in B&W, since the color was not impressive.

Xiaoshuijing, meaning "small well", is a small villiage of Miao ethnic minority in Yunnan, China. Almost all villagers are Christians. The pretty little girls were going into a chapel for hymns when one of them looked back, and I was lucky to catch the moment.

I did not know these 3 little girls, but they were very pleased to pose for me with the sunflowers as the foreground and background after I talked with them for a while. Pity that it was a cloudy day.
