Can't say this is something I was expected to be reading about today. :(
What's odd is that they are saying that the site will remain in a read-only mode "for a limited time" after April 10th. Hopefully all the content contributed over the years won't just be going poof...
I'm sure we will be seeing many new members join over the coming days, so let's give them a warm welcome (and reassurance that PF isn't going anywhere)!

Anna's Hummingbird usually looks pretty drab, as in the second photo, but at the right angle their heads and back feathers can light up in fluorescent greens and reds. They can be incredibly territorial. We have a feeder with six perches, but the alpha male dude won't let any other birds on it if he's around. One morning we found a dead Anna's below the feeder that looked like it had been gored by a beak.

Got lucky in Northern Norway on a 7 day's hike with lots of Northern Lights in the sky. It was my first time so late in the year and it was freezing a little bit at night. The last part of the trip I stayed in a mountain cabin but most nights I was glad I bought a better sleeping bag with only some tent fabric between me and the weather.
Cheers,
Remco

My lovely friend Marina moved to Tallahassee over this last weekend. We managed to catch breakfast together the day before she left at the location of our very first shoot so it was quite emotional for the both of us. We have had a lot of adventures together over our many shoots and I will miss her. She has promised to visit during holidays and that we will continue to shoot. I plan to eventually release a book of images of her someday once I have edited enough of them. I figured I would share a handful of our favorite images. Marina 1 by Christopher Rankin, on Flickr

Marina's mother claims that this is her favorite image. A different look for Marina. It started raining not long after this was taken. Marina in Mono by Christopher Rankin, on Flickr
By far one of my most popular images on Flickr. It took awhile before I was able to do a B&W of Marina as she is always so full of life and energy but I felt that this one was appropriate. Red Bridge at Sunset by Christopher Rankin, on Flickr

I took the attached photo from central Nebraska (NE of North Platte) August 19, 2017 during my eclipse road trip. There were strong thunderstorms, lightning, and 5 tornadoes 50 miles away while the sky above remained crystal clear.
The horizontal smudge just right of center is the Andromeda Galaxy. To give you an idea of how large it actually is, it fills a portion of the sky 6 times wider than the moon, even though it lies a distant 2.5 million light years away. Andromeda Galaxy above Thunderstorms by John Speroni, on Flickr

Grmozur is a former prison at Lake Skadar. Every prisoner had his own personal warden and only one prisoner ever managed to escape floating on a cell door.

After the vertical one taken with the Leica SL I posted a while ago, one more Sunrise at Playa de Gueirua in the Asturias (Spain), this time in landscape format and with a slightly longer lens (28mm FOV instead of 15mm). Playa de Gueirua is really amazing with the right sky and definitely worth the descent (and ascent back up!). Leica S (Typ 007), Leica Summarit-S 35mm, Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters. Thanks for viewing, best regards,

The Wave is so fantastic. Formed by shifting winds during the Jurassic period as huge sand dunes moved across the desert.
The Wave’s unique grain flow is an unofficial wonder of the world.
Due to the fragility of the ridges in the stone, visitors to the area are limited to 20 per day.

I love Badwater in Death Valley: it's an extraordinary location, its landscapes are ever changing and with a sunset storm the light there becomes really magic. Leica S (Typ 007), Leica Vario-Elmar-S 30-90mm. Thanks for viewing, best regards
